    1. Daniels, Charleston, SC 1700-1800
    2. In the 1600's and 1700's there were many members of my family living in the Charleston, South Carolina area. Several owned large plantations and would have to be considered very wealthy and prominant members of the Charleston social circles. The first member I will discuss is Jonathan LAWRENCE, born, 1748 and died Oct 18, 1782 and is buried in St. Thomas Church, Cain Hoy, SC. He was the son of Thomas Lawrence of New York and Elizabeth Helener Leggett also of New York. Jonathan Lawrence married Sarah DANIEL, born May 4, 1760 and died March 9, 1842 also buried in Cain Hoy next to her husband. She was the daughter of Robert DANIEL (VI) 1724-1789 and Elizabeth RUSS 1734-1798. She was also the great great grandaughter of Governor/Landgrave Robert DANIEL 1646-1718. This union had two children as follows; 1. Elizabeth Helen Lawrence was born July 24, 1781 in Charleston, SC. She married a Samuel PARKER, Jan.1, 1776 - May 8, 1830, I assume in Charleston, SC. The 1810 census has them in Charleston City and living next door is Sarah Lawrence, widow. At the time of his death in 1830 they owned a home at number 6 Geroge Street in Charleston. This was willed to Sarah from her father Robt. Daniel and instructions were given by him to build a house on the lot after his death. They had 8 children as follows; 1.Elizabeth Martha L. Parker, md. William MILLER 2. George Gilbert Lawrence Parker, 3. Susan Mary Parker. md. Charles D. FRIERSON. (Texas) 4. Robert Daniel Parker, md. Rachel Ann BOCHETT 5. Peter G. Parker, md. Maria Louisa BRAILSFORD 6. Elizabeth Rachel Parker, md. Joseph Alma PELOT (Georgia) 7. Sarah Lawrence Parker, md. Henry C. MARCELL 8. Samuel Daniel Parker, 1812 -1858 2. Second child of Jonathan Lawrence and Sarah Daniel was Robert Daniel Lawrence, b. Feb 17, 1779. He married Eliza Maria HALL, b. 1777- ?, dau of Daniel and Susan Mathews Hall, in 1799 in Charleston and had many children. My intrest is in Sarah Lawrence Parker, seventh child of Samuel Parker and Elizabeth Lawrence. She was born about 1810 in Charleston, SC according to census records later in her life. A deed in 1871 for the property at # 6 George St. has her living in Ohio and named Sarah Parker MARCELL. Sarah married a Henry C. MARCELL who was born around 1805 in Maryland according to census data. At some point he moved to Charleston, SC and married Sarah Parker about 1832 or before. I assume this marriage was in Charleston but no proof has been found. Their first child, Emma Lawrence Marcell was born about 1833 in Charleston. Second child, Alma P. Marcell was born July 5, 1835 also in Charleston. Third child, Edward North Marcell was born May, 1837 in Charleston. Fourth was Sarah Daniel Marcell, born, Nov. 23, 1839 in Georgia so the family had left the area by then.Ella Sue Marcell ws the last child and her birth place is unknown. My intrerest is in Edward North Marcell, named after a Doctor Edward NORTH from Charelston whom I assume was a close family friend. Edward ended up in Texas where he was buried in Olney on Sept 30, 1917. My brick wall is trying to find any piece of documentation linking Henry C.Marcell to Charleston, his marriage to Sarah Parker or baptism info on any of his children born in Charleston. The only refrence I find to any Marcell's in Charleston is in the "Implied South Carolina Marriages, Vol V, 1749-1853, pg. 445-452" A Jacques Albert MARCEL married to Fleury Cazeneuve in 1809 and also a Paul Samuel MARCELL married to Suzanne Albertine Jacquline PAYEN also 1809. The marriage contract was issued on May 9, 1805 in Paris France before they left for america in 1805 and landing in Maryland. They then removed to Kentucky and South Carolina. If anyone in Charleston can help link my Marcell line to the above families in Charleston I am offering a reward. Any proof of a birth, baptism or published announcement is worth $100.00. Any marriage certificate or church record for any Marcell in Charleston is also worth $100.00. If anyone can find a link from Henry C. Marcell to Paul Samuel Marcell or Jacques Albert MARCELL I will pay $250.00. I know this sounds desperate but after 5 years and many miles I am willing to offer money for assisatnce with this line. Thank you for reading and any assistance you might offer. I am at the end of my rope as they say. Contact me with any more needed info or if related I can bring all of this family to current date.
