Just a thought. The name Owen appears in the early records for Ann Jones Daniel of England the mother of Thomas Daniel of IOW. The records suggest that Ann married a John Daniel first. After John Daniel's death, Anne married a cousin (Jones) and that her maiden name was also "Jones". A church rector thinks that she was a daughter of "Owen Jones". (not proven) Her Baptism is recorded as such on the 14th of April 1616 at the Parish of St. Katherine By The Tower, Middlesex, England. Unfortunately, as John says sometimes, the dates for all these folks are "cobbled up". (so, was Ann born in 1616 or was she born before 1630?) I would like to further suggest that Linda Scotts Roger Jones, born 1642, is the brother of Ann Jones Daniel; however, that would not make her the daughter of Owen Jones? The fact is that the names Roger, Owen, Thomas, and John, extend back to England. It is Nye on to impossible to connect some of these folks because of their dates of birth as shown in Latter Day Saints Ancestral Files. It is fun to try though. Have a nice weekend ya'll. William was the son of Simon DANIEL and Elizabeth ROGERS of Edgecombe. We know that when William DANIEL born ABT 1722, died in 1789, his wife was a Rebecca but some say he also married a Sarah WILLIS, d/o William WILLIS of Edgecombe County, NC. In his will it states his daughter, Mary DANIEL, was a Mrs. ANDREWS and they had children named Clara and Cullen ANDREWS. I have the record for Cullen ANDREWS and it says he was married to a Mary BATTLE. Maybe she married a BATTLE and then ANDREWS, that I do not know. What I do know is there are BATTLES on the estate of William DANIEL so this seems to match these to bits of information up, to some degree. The marriage to Rebecca may have been a December marriage, as often happened back then and Sarah WILLIS may have been the mother of these DANIEL kids. I also know they had both a Robert and David DANIEL but no William, Jr. is listed in the estate of William DANIEL of Edgecombe. I know Payne disagrees, but I think William DANIEL who married Pricilla ANDREWS was out of the Simon DANIEL family and not the T&E DANIEL family. The reason being is all of the close connections in this bunch in Edgecombe and none of them seem to be in the family of Robert Lanier DANIEL of Pitt so my guess is that he was a son of Robert DANIEL and Mary SWAIN and not RLD and Jemima or UNK, because Pricilla's brother, Warren Daniel ANDREWS, b: 1765 in Pitt County,North Carolina Death: 22 Jun 1833 in Martin Co., NC married Barshelba GAINER b: 1767 in Pitt County,North Carolina Married: 1790 the daughter of Joseph GAINER b: 1725 in Beaufort co. N.C and Susanna SWAIN b: in Beaufort co. N.C. I also know the GAINERS are found all around my bunch in Washington County, GA in a latter time frame. Joseph GAINER was the brother of William GAINER (1758-1800) who married Martha WILLIAMS and they moved to Davisboro, Washington County, GA. Sisters Mary GAINER married a WHITLEY and sister, Elizabeth GAINER, married a GRIFFIN. Not to over look that David DANIEL who was a son of William DANIEL and either Sarah WILLIS or Rebecca, and we know that Stephen DANIEL married one of the IRWIN girls at his uncle David's house. This tells me the area but not the exact line since a William DANIEL (b. ABT 1760) is not listed in the estate of this William DANIEL but he sure matches the time frame to be a son of this William DANIEL. So, Lucy, your William DANIEL could have been out of this family or even a son of one of his brothers. Maybe even Robert DANIEL and his wife, Mary SWAIN because there is all kinds of loopholes in this bunch, too. However, we already know he was from the IOW bunch and this looks like the right area to concentrate your research on - somewhere in the Simon DANIEL and Elizabeth ROGERS family of Edgecombe...... Payne, The only problem I see with this is - the dates for Ann's birth and the dates of Thomas's birth are a little close, even for then. Age 15 is a little young for her to be married and have a child born 1631 means she had to be married at ABT age 14. Such things did happen but not as often as one believes. Regardless of where the Owen name came from, it is not passed on. That, is why I think this Owen may not have been the father of Thomas DANIEL who married Elizabeth LANIER. Maybe Owen did something that caused his name to be held in such disrepute that none of the family ever wanted to use it as a given name, that I do not know. What I do know is that it was not normal for the name of the father not to be passed on in the names of the children of the child but there is not a Owen in sight in this family, anywhere, is there? The John you mentioned and the name, Thomas, is passed on, is it not? Also, this John is basically "out of the blue," too, right? That tells me that a John probably figured in on the ancestry of this DANIEL family, somewhere. One of the problems is Simon. Lew GRIFFIN will be the first to admit that he does not know whether the Simon who married Elizabeth ROGERS was Simon I or Simon II, at least that is what I have in my notes from Lew.. We also do not know whether the Robert DANIEL of Martin County, NC who married Mary SWAIN was a son of Simon or not because this Robert was not listed in the will of Simon DANIEL. Also the children of this Robert DANIEL of Martin have been cobbled into the family of Robert Lanier DANIEL of Pitt County, NC and it has only been recently that we have started to straighten out these two DANIEL families. However, all indications are -- this bunch is out of the same DANIEL family but there are still a few mysteries to be uncovered in this bunch, I'm sure. One of the things that makes me wonder about this bunch is the Beverley and if my DANIEL bunch is a part of this overall family, the Chesley name in my bunch. As we know, these are not given names normally found in the IOW Daniel family. Maybe you have some information on a possibly connection between the Middlesex DANIELS, especially those found in Granville County, NC, and those DANIELS found in Pitt, Martin, Edgecombe, Dobbs and Johnston County areas of NC. As I said the dates are a little unreliable. As to the father of Thomas being Owen Daniel, I will embrace any documentation that proves or disproves that connection. I will also embrace any documentation that helps to resolve the hypothetical that have been proposed. Many of my assignments aren't my idea but are from a range of sources and papers from other researchers. I guess the best approach is not to be caught with your feet (positions) firmly planted in mid air, but to be open to documentation that can get to the truth. As usual I will give your thoughts careful consideration. I appreciate your taking the time to share them with us. Oh, if I recall his positions correctly, I believe that Will has the right idea on the Simons. Later, Payne ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R.
