    1. Re: [GAWASHIN] ROLL CALL: Washington County Families

    3. Thomas, my boy, it is nice to hear from you. I have some of your information but some I did not have. I am very interested in your SANDERS. Are they out of Northampton County, NC and are they tied to the HART family of that location, as well as those in Surry County, VA?. I am also pretty sure we are cousins of some variety. I know your DANIEL family and where they connect to and I am not against the proposition that your ancestor, Benjamin DANIEL, and my ancestor, Robert DANIEL, were not brothers or at least, cousins of some type. Anyway, you are family. My DANIEL bunch lived in Burke and Jefferson County, GA but I too, had a Lucretia DANIEL as a sister of my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL (1809-1865) of Bethany, now Wadley, Jefferson County, GA. If you are familiar with Wadley, where Robert lived, then Jimmy TARVER is a cousin of mine. He descends from Lucretia DANIEL (1807-1849) and William Allen TARVER, Sr. His father was Dr. TARVER of Wadley. FYI, you only descend from Benjamin DANIEL RS-GA but also John BURGAMY RS-GA that was hung by Col. BROWNE after the Battle of Augusta in 1781. I am sure Benjamin fought in the same battle but escaped the "rope party" that BROWNE held for those who he had captured after the battle. You also descend from Benjamin's father, Capt. Aaron DANIEL RS-SC and his wife, Elizabeth WHITFIED, so you have more than on Revolutionary War ancestor. I have also thought for a long time that MS Lucy GRAY's DANIEL family of Jackson County, FL was related to mine. Her ancestor was William DANIEL and Betsy WATTS, d/o John WATTS of SC. I know that John WATTS was in SC and we also know that Capt. Aaron DANIEL (ABT 1733-1800) died in the Cheraw Area of SC in 1800 and Betsy Whitfield DANIEL a few years later. However, we have no will or deeds outlining this specific DANIEL family and all assignments to him are questionable, w/o a will or deed to back them up. POWG has assigned, erroneously, many DANIELS to Capt. Aaron and Betsy, that we know for a fact. We are generally sure of several of their children -- John, Benjamin, Abraham and Aaron, Jr but the others that have been linked to him are questionable. We do know that Capt. Enoch DANIEL who married Sarah DELL was not a son of Capt. Aaron DANIEL and Betsy WHITFIELD but was his nephew. . That said, the LANGLEYS you list interest me and I am sure they interests MS Lucy because her grandmother was Octavia Lavinia LANGLEY, d/o Rev. Thomas Edward LANGLEY (1834-1890) and Lavinia Ann NORWOOD of Chipley, Washington County, FL. Rev. LANGLEY was the son of Isaiah Jeremiah LANGLEY (1809-1851) and Caroline CALLAWAY, d/o Edward CALLAWAY (1781-AFT 1854) and Elizabeth SPRATLING of Monroe County, GA, formerly of Wilkes County, GA, later Macon County, AL. I have CALLAWAYS attached to my bunch, too, through the FITZPATRICKS of Madison, Morgan County, GA. Her DANIEL ancestors, as I have stated, were William DANIEL and Betsy WATTS, through their son, Josiah DANIEL (1804/1805-1863) and Sarah Ann Caroline CALLAWAY of Campbellton, Jackson County, FL. Notice the CAMPBELL name because it plays into this overall DANIEL Family, too. Sarah Ann Caroline CALLAWAY was the d/o the Hon. Elijah Hosea CALLAWAY and Elizabeth BANKS of Emanuel County, GA, later Jackson County, FL. It seems this whole DANIEL and their CALLAWAY collaterals, picked up stakes in Washington County, GA and moved to Jackson County, FL in the 1825 time frame. I am not sure who the father of William DANIEL born ABT 1760 was. I like two possibilities. He was a son of Aaron and Betsy or he was a son of Josiah DANIEL and Elizabeth MAY of Jasper County, SC. Regardless, Lucy is family to both of us, that, I am pretty sure.... Speaking of your BRANTLEYS. Did you know that Joseph and Lucy had a sons named, Benjamin, Solomon, Aaron and Moses BRANTLEY? Almost an exact copy of the children of Capt. Aaron DANIEL that we know of and can confirm. I am also a BRANTLEY descendant. My maternal 6th GGF was John BRANTLEY III (ABT 1729-AFTY 1786) and his wife, Elizabeth CLAY of Edgecombe County, NC, later Nash County, NC. They tie into my RICKS, THIGPEN and DAME family. However, my DANIEL ancestors are a paternal line. My paternal grandmother was Alice E. DANIEL (1854-1924), the daughter of Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. and Mary Jane RENEAU (1830-1912) of Bethany, now Wadley, Jefferson County, GA. She married John C. RICHTER, Sr. (1848-1907) of Madison, Morgan County, GA in 1872 in Madison. Their marriage was performed by Dr. David WILLS, President of Oglethorpe University, then located in Milledgeville, GA. Alice's grandparents were Robert C. DANIEL (ABT 1765-AFT 1830) and Penelope LANE (1773-1846) of the 65th MD of Burke County, GA. They had moved there from Greene County, NC in 1812, according to her 1846 obit, as published in the Southern Christian Advocate. Penelope's father was Capt. Isham LANE (1730-1801) and her mother was probably a BRYAN(T) but that is unconfirmed, some say DAWSON I do not know who the father of this Robert DANIEL was but my best guess is either Aaron and Betsy or Aaron's first cousin, Robert DANIEL and his wife, Mary SWAIN. However, he could be out of that Northampton County, NC bunch but they are still family, albeit from a different line. If you have any thoughts on any of this, I would like to hear them. John R.
