John, Believe this William was the Bertie County jailer in 1724 that convinced the Bertie County Court needed an Ordinary to entertain folks coming to court. The County then gave Will a piece of land on a free 99 year lease to build an Ordinary and dwelling for his family and Will became the Ordinary keeper. I believe this is also the William that purchased property in 1730 adj to Robert LANIER and Robert ROGERS among others. William traded several tracts with members of the PEELE family as you posted as well as James JENKINS also of NANSEMOND. In Chowan Court Oct 1742 it was ordered that James WILSON be overseer of the roads from Bennett's Creek Bridge to Knotty Pine Swamp in the room of William DANIEL Ca. Bennett's Creek is mentioned in several of the deeds you posted. Who is he? Shooting from the hip I would say he is some relation to Thomas DANIEL (of T&E) and possibly Simon DANIEL but I have no proof. Possibly some relation to Owen also. I have begun to separate Simon from Owen in my mind if not in my database; just not enough to feel strongly about. Mike Mike
