Jim, There is still something missing here. I can understand the Craven County, NC WISE connection but when you go back through their family and their WADSWORTHS, it does not make a lot of sense. Notice that Hugh Buckner JOHNSTON did not have a name for all of the DANIEL kids that I know of - only two out of ten and I do not have Chesley on my list. I do have James (1814-1857) and William (b. 1797), as well as Nancy (1799-1862) and Sarah (1804-1872) and I know who they married -- WISE boys, children of John WYSE and Nancy WADSWORTH of Craven County, NC. I also know that Nancy and Sarah DANIEL were siblings of Robert W. DANIEL (1809-1865) of Jefferson County, GA but this does not tie it all together. Something is missing. It makes some sense but not completely. However, do notice, these DANIEL kids have life spans about what I have always said about my bunch -- they had lives "shorter than most." (boys, 50-60 and girls a little longer.), so that part matches. I also feel there has to be some family connection to the RENEAUS because Mary Jane RENEAU (1830-1912), being the daughter of a preacher, probably came with hat in hand and when that happens, it often means, family of some variety. She was nice looking but she was no Miss America - a little too short and dumpy for my tastes. <grin> . We also know where the RENEAUS were from and where they point back to -- Upper Neck and Augusta County areas of VA and southern PA and MD. We also know the WYSE bunch migrated through MD on the way to Craven County, NC. In fact, John WYSE's daddy, Ninean WYSE died in Oxford, Talbot County, MD. I have family links all over that area. As I look at this bunch one would think they were probably part of the DANIEL bunch out of IOW County, VA and they may well be but I think not. I think they were part of a DANIEL family that migrated from Ireland, Scotland, England or even New England to MD, NJ or the Upper Areas of VA in the 1750 time frame and then moved south after the war. They well could have been a VA or even SC family that moved north out of the tide water areas of VA and SC and later moved south into NC and GA. I really like the smell of families around Spotsylvania and Orange County, VA for some reason. . One of the families tied to Smith Callaway BANKS, my good friend of Statesboro, GA, were in the foundry business during the RW in Reading, PA and his bunch is tied to mine, later. We also know the Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg areas of VA were big time foundry areas. That's why all of the old growth timber had been cut down in the area of the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864 - it had been used in the foundry business prevalent in that area in earlier years.. We also know the CALLAWAYS were from MD and they are tied to my bunch through the FITZPATRICKS, a Goochland and Cumberland area family. The problem with my bunch is they came from an area devastated by war (wherever) and moved into an area devastated by war (Burke and Jefferson County, GA) which is why we do not know who they were or where they came from. However, they came to Burke County, GA in 1812 with some amount of money and breeding and none of their children match the profile of the more or less standard, $300/$600 a year family. This bunch, at adulthood, was a $5,000 a year bunch. They also seem to have married often but married, well. Don't worry, I will figure it out with the help of Payne, you and a few others..... <grin> John R. DANIEL Family of Burke County, GA Good Morning, Well, we have finally figured out where they came from -- Greene County, NC. We also know who the WISE/WYSE family that was connected to them came from - Craven County, NC, the children of John WYSE and Nancy WADSWORTH who migrated to Craven County, NC from Maryland and before that, Scotland. The following information is from the miscellaneous notes of Hugh Buckner JOHNSTON that are in the Raleigh Library, Raleigh, Wake County, NC: JOHNSTON's notes are generally considered as being reliable. Several comments on these notes: 1. The Chesley DANIEL listed in this information is the Chesley C. DANIEL born ABT 1818, probably in Burke County, GA since RCD and Penelope moved to Burke in 1812. He married an Ann LNU ABT 1837 and I think later lived in Washington County, GA. 2. The Nancy DANIEL listed in this information married a Richard ERWIN/IRWIN/IRVIN, first (ABT 1820), and after he died (Bef 31 Mar 1827) she married Frederick W. WISE/WYSE. The W. is probably for WADSWORTH, his mother's maiden name. 3. We do not know what the C. stood for in Robert C. DANIEL's name, but maybe Chesley. We know the WYSE family was originally from Maryland before migrating to Craven County, NC. However, since Chesley C. DANIEL also had the middle initial C. we really do not know what it stood for and it could have stood for something else. COUNCIL and CASON are other real possibilities for this middle name. 4. I can confirm from the 1861 Will of Ann DANIEL (1809-1861), the second wife of James L. DANIEL (1814-1857) of Bethany, GA, who was listed as a son of Robert and Penelope in these notes, that Sarah Elizabeth DANIEL (1807-1872) was a sister of Robert W. DANIEL (1809-1865) of Bethany, Jefferson County, GA. I think this Sarah DANIEL and Thomas WYSE lived in Tattnall County, GA. Regardless, two of her sons were living with Robert W. DANIEL and his family in Bethany, GA in 1860 and are so enumerated with him on the 1860 census. The 1862 will of Counsel D. WISE, a son of Sarah and Thomas WISE, executed by Robert W. DANIEL, also confirms this sibling relationship since Robert was listed in his will as his uncle. 5. Chesley Simon WISE was born in 1845 and served in Company G (E), 38th GA VIR, ANV during the CW. He enlisted on November 24, 1861 as a PVT, was wounded at 2nd Manassas on August 28, 1862 and discharged in March 1863. His whereabouts after then are unknown as are the whereabouts of his brother, Counsel D. WISE. . Any information on this bunch is appreciated..... <<< R. C. Daniel of Greene County, North Carolina, married Penelope and had: James Daniel, William Daniel, Chesley Daniel, Nancy Daniel married on February 13, 1834, Frederick W. Wyse, son of John Wyse and Nancy Wadsworth. He was born on September 5, 1798. Sarah Elizabeth Daniel was born on February 25, 1807, in Greene County North Carolina. and died on May 22, 1872; on January 25 1827, she married Thomas Wise, fifth son of John Wyse and wife Nancy Wadsworth. He was born on October 12, 1799, and died on February 22, 1849. Also there was a Chesley Simeon Wise. >>> John R.
