Annie, That is more or less what I am thinking about some of these Greene County, GA folks. They weren't NC folks, but VA folks and probably a part of that same KDC bunch that came from Ireland to PA to VA and then to GA - KELSO-DANIEL-CUNNINGHAM clan. There are also three other families in this little group, the COFFEES, CARLTONS and the CALDWELLS, so there are lots of "C.'s" in this bunch. I do not know whether Thomas DANIEL (ABT 1740-1813) of Greene County, GA was out of this KDC bunch or not but I think Charles DANIEL (1773-1800) was, because he married a COFFEE. If Thomas was in this bunch and he was, indeed, Charles's father, then my bet is -- he was married to a RANDLE and not a NC BURNEY. The RANDLES are another family that floats with them, as are the RALLS and SANFORDS, all VA folks. One of the GA families I closely monitor is the LAMARS, as some of you know. They were from Frederick County, MD and migrated to Columbia County, GA, as well as other places. I find many things interesting about this LAMAR family but most of all the name of the Clerk of the Court in Frederick County, MD on the 1748 will of Thomas LAMAR II (1686-1749) -- James DARNELL. The reason I find it interesting is because a Morgan County, GA researcher once told me -- "you know we really aren't DANIELS but DARNELLS." I blew it off at the time, but not now. I wonder if some of the DANIEL lines we are seeing in GA are really DARNELL, especially those that kept the "double L" spelling of the name, like some of these Greene County, GA folks did? This would probably go a long way to explain some of what we are seeing with the CALLAWAYS, another MD family, all over some of our DANIEL folks. What we may be seeing is the worst possible of combinations -- McDONALDS who became DANIELS, McDANIELS who became DANIELS, DARNELLS who became DANIELS, O'DANIELS who became DANIELS, DONALDSONS who became DANIELS, DONNELLS who became DANIELS and after several generations when everyone had forgotten the real spellings of their names, they all intermarried.
