Listers: Happened upon this site that is a Collaborative Project of the Library of Congress and the Library of Virginia that has some surprisingly high-quality digital images of Early Virginia Religious Petitions (beginning in 1774). I have reviewed several in PE and Caroline Co.'s and found signatures of many of the folks we discuss frequently on the list. Documents can be retrieved by date, geographic loacation or keyword. A good example was November 12, 1785, Prince Edward, Buffalo Church, in favor of Presbyterian Convention petition which was signed by several CUNNINGHAMS, William and James DANIEL and several other folks we routinely see in later Ga. documents. Good stuff. Link below: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/repehtml/repehome.html Mike Daniel
List: may I echo Mike's recommendation of the American Memory project at LOC. When I mentioned some time back the Washington Manuscripts, I thought there were only a few. I was mistaken. Images of most that are readable are there, plus transcriptions of others. Some date back to his surveyor days. Very interesting letters and other papers. It will take weeks to read them all, but worth the time. Robert and William Daniel signed the 1 Nov 1786 petition in Orange County. If anyone finds a Thomas Daniel signature, please let me know.
