Martha, My guess on these "Cherokees" you list is -- they were actually eastern NC Tuscaroras that were relocated by the US Government into Western NY and PA in the early 1800's and found their way back down south, later. The Cherokees were only located in NC, SC, GA and TN, not Delaware and Canada. . The Tuscaroras were primarily located in eastern NC, Duplin, Pitt and Onslow areas. They were quite unlike the Lumbecs who lived along the NC-SC border, who some say were a little "slow on the draw." The Tuscaroras were not slow at anything, as I understand it. I think this was also the same bunch that Gov. Robert DANIELL was sent to NC to deal with in the late1600's, where he met Martha WAINWRIGHT and later married her. The Tuscaroras are related to the Cherokees and they were all part of the same Iroquois Confederation, whose range extended well into Canada, hence the Canadian connection to this bunch. The five original nations of the Iroquois Confederation were the Onondagas, Oneidas, Mohawks, Cayugas and Senecas. History says in 1712 they united with the Tuscaroras and then they were called the six Nations. Sir William Johnson says in his History of the Iroquois, the Tuscaroras were not invited to physically join with the five nations until 1753. Some did and the rest were re-located by the US Government in 1804. Since they were in Eastern NC tribe, they could have well married into the DANIEL family or they could have taken that name when they migrated south, later. My maternal 3rd GGM was Mary E., supposedly a full blooded Tuscarora Indian lass married James E. ROBINSON, Sr. (1752-1852) RS-NC in 1777. James was from Pitt County, NC and she was from Onslow, as the story goes. I think his father was William ROBINSON of Pitt County, NC and William has quite a few connections to the DANIELS of that area. This olive skin I have, dark hair and brown eyes sure did not come from my father's side which includes the DANIELS. They were as fair as a ghost. This Indian ancestry seems not to have hurt James's children since their youngest son, my 2nd GGF, James E. ROBINSON, Jr. (1792-1877) was a county judge in Wayne County, GA and GA State Representative. James, Jr. also married well, Easter O'STEEN, d/o the Hon. John A. O'STEEN, Sr. and Ada WEEKS. Ada's father, Silas WEEKS was killed in the RW in 1777. The WEEKS were from Falmouth, Barnstable County, MA and Easter's brother was US District Judge, John A. O'STEEN, Jr. who lived in Savannah and their father a county judge and GA state representative, like James, Jr. . It also seems not to have made them buddy-buddy with the Seminoles who lived along the GA-FL border because they had a big fight with them in the Wayne County, GA area in the 1830's. The Nancy ROBINSON home, where a massacre occurred in 1837, is on display at the Okefeenokee State Park in Ware County, GA. Nancy was out of the same ROBINSON bunch that migrated from Pitt County, NC to Burke and Washington County, GA after the RW and then, later, to Wayne, later Charlton County, GA. The ROBINSONS were a real political power in Charlton County, GA for years to come. Some also might want to know the WAINWRIGHT family of Pitt County, NC also came south with the ROBINSONS and were closely collateral with them later in Wayne and Charlton County, GA. This is just one of the reasons I have looked so closely at the Robert DANIELL and Martha WAINWRIGHT family for possibly connections to my DANIEL bunch. John R.
