I want to know who the following Elizabeth SMITH is. I think she is the Elizabeth WHITFIELD who married John SMITH II and they lived, according to most, in Smithfield, Johnston County, NC. These deeds involve land in the area of Grinnal's or Grindall's Creek, Pitt County, NC which runs from Pitt into Craven and is near Fort Barnwell, NC. Who these folks are, those that I know: James BARROW was the father of Samuel BARROW. I cannot find out Lemuel JAMES connection to this bunch but he did have a son, Matthew JAMES who married Mary ALBRITTON, g/d James. James ALBRITTON married Elizabeth LANIER, d/o John LANIER III and Elizabeth BIRD of Surry County, VA. Elizabeth had a brother named, Lemuel LANIER, who married an Elizabeth PETERS and moved to Burke County, GA, so the Lemuel name is around this bunch. James BARROW is the father of Sam or Samuel BARROW listed on some of these deeds.
