Vickie, I know that Payne does not agree with this but I think the O'DANIELS of this area in NC started to drop the O' and we are getting them all mixed up with the DANIEL family of the same area. It is exactly the same thing that happened down in Edgefield and Chester, SC and Hancock County, GA with the Fairfax County, VA O'DANIEL family. However, I do not know if the Owen and Frederick O'DANIEL we see in the Bertie and Edgecombe areas around Cassia Swamp are related to the O'DANIELS of Fairfax County, VA or not. What we have are three generations of O'DANIELS floating around that area in NC. There is the grandfather, Owen, born BEF 1700, son Frederick born 1731 who married Charity WHITFIELD, sister of Matthew WHITFIELD whose daughter, Elizabeth WHITFIELD married Capt. Aaron DANIEL. Frederick and Charity also had an Owen born AFT 1750 who married Charity HERRING, d/o a David HERRING. Contrary to what some may think, this smells to me to be the same bunch.......
