    3. Diane, Yes, I know what that Effingham County, GA record says but someone submitted to the list a will or deed which lists her first husband as Samuel TYSON, Sr. born 1744 the son of John TYSON and Bethany HINES of Pitt County, NC and this Samuel, Sr. died in 1771 in Beaufort District, SC. They had a son, Samuel TYSON, Jr. b. ABT 1770, who married Elizabeth STAFFORD. I am pretty sure the MAY-DANIEL marriage was also confirmed by Koy JOHNSTON in his 1976 letter to Mrs. Lucy GRAY. He was a direct descendant of Col. Amos JOHNSTON who married Josiah and Elizabeth's daughter, Elizabeth DANIEL. As I remember, they were not married in Effingham County, GA. They were married over in SC, as I remember. A Black Swamp Church or something like that. Now, I believe that is the way it went. The problem with genealogical information in that area of SC is the Yankees burned all of the courthouses, much as they did in Washington, Burke and Jefferson County, GA and there are no civil records for the period prior to the CW and where they are no records - there are those who find a way to create them.
