I think I have a few and will look them over and see if I see anything interesting. I am looking for a LANE, BRYAN, THOMPSON, PARKER or DAWSON to a DANIEL family in that neck of the woods... John, Will of Robert Sr.: Will Book No. 1 page 127 Martin County N. C. (Office of Clerk of Court): Robert Daniel of Martin Co., N. C. will Sept. 17, 1786. Saunders): Will of Robert Jr (by the statement of his parents): B1P80 Robert DANIELS, SR,; William DANIEL; Mary DANIEL; swore to Samuel SMITHWICK; justice of the peace, that Robert DANIEL, JR. called on them on 7 November 1780 to take notice that he was going into the service and did not have time to make a will in writing, but his will and desire, in case he should die, was his sisters and brothers (not named) were to be given something. men: bro. James DANIEL; wit appeared in court 18 August 1782. Mike
Mike, That does not mean he died. He just made a will in case something happened to him. Please remember the previous year Robert, Jr was in real big trouble in Pitt for selling a slave in Surry County, VA that belonged to Col. ARMSTRONG. I wonder is this was just a subterfuge on their part to make it look like Robert had died? James and I think Mary Swain DANIEL end up in Greene County, NC. I wonder if Robert surfaced there , too -- after the war was over and the heat was off..... If he died, there should be some record of his service in the NC Line or militia and something detailing what happened to him. They did keep records on casualties in those days, just like today. November 1780 was not when most kids went off to war, since the RW was almost over in the south by that time. IMHO, this sounds just a little too convenient to me and it would get him out of a lot of hot water at home for playing around with "Suk." <grin> John R.
