Payne, Even in today's time frame, these naming conventions are still used by most families I am a John, son of a John and grandson of a John and this latter, John, was also a grandson of a John and this name in the family goes back to 1750. My wife's nephew is a Richard, grandson of a Richard (my father-in-law) who was also a grandson of a Richard, who was also a grandson of a Richard and this goes way back to Richard GROSVENOR.. My grandson is also a John, grandson of a John (me) and so on. His middle name is also Walker, a name of his great-grandfather, Walker GROSVENOR. My oldest daughter has the middle name, Jane, a female version of John. Our youngest daughter has the middle name, Elizabeth, my grandmother's name. My wife is a Gail, a grand niece of an Abigail. One of our grand daughters is named, Catherine, the name of my wife's 3rd GGM and great grand aunt. My uncle is an Andrew, son of an Andrew and he has a grandson named, Andrew. My uncle's son was named, Thomas, his grandfather's middle name, 1st SGT Robert Thomas ROBINSON of the 26th GA VIR and Tommy's middle name was Andrew, his father and grandfather's name. Another ROBINSON uncle was named, John Dame ROBINSON, "John" from the TOMLINSONS and DAME from the DAMES - my grandmother's family. His oldest son, my first cousin, was also of the same name. Another son of Uncle John was named, Joseph, and he was named for his uncle, a ROBINSON. My TOMLINSONS of Bulloch and Clinch County, GA beat the names, John and William TOMLINSON to death. My ROBINSONS of Wayne and Charlton County, GA used ever name in the book, they needed to since they had so many children but the names of their parents and grandparents were always included in the names of their children and these names in these families roll back to before 1750. Even the RENEAUS beat the name, Russell, to death. I am a 2nd GGS of Russell RENEAU, his son was named Russell RENEAU, my uncle was named, Russell, and my middle name is Russell. What more can I say on family names? For someone to tell me that Thomas DANIEL and Simon DANIEL were sons of an Owen DANIEL, but we never see the name, Owen, ever used again in this family; I am going to say rather quickly -- something is amiss, here. That, did not happen, especially in that time frame. As for Thomas DANIEL who married Elizabeth LANIER. Their oldest son, who was not named for a parent or grandparent, was named, John DANIEL. Where do you think that leads? The oldest name in Simon and Elizabeth's family that I cannot account for was William DANIEL and both he and Thomas had a son named William DANIEL. So, my guess is -- their father was named either William or John and they could well have been brothers and sons of John of IOW. Since we also know that John DANIEL of IOW County, VA was their common ancestor, at least according to most and it is supported in DNA evidence, I would go with one of these two possibilities (John or William DANIEL) as their parents and they were sons of John or IOW County, VA. I also think Simon and Thomas were probably first cousins and not brothers because they just do not roll into the same overall group of families although these families were reasonably "close," as one would suspect cousins to be, they were not close enough for them to be brothers, because they rolled into a slightly different set of families. The names, John and William DANIEL also flow in my bunch, so I suspect I descend probably from this overall DANIEL family. However, there are a few missing links that I have yet to uncover to make that assignment, especially that name, Chesley DANIEL. There are four male given names that flow in my bunch through several critical generations -- William, John, Robert and James and I think they are telling me who my DANIEL ancestors were. John R. Ask and it shall be given unto yee, in full measure. So many ifs, maybes and I guess's in the mix. As for me, I will stick to the established version of this family until documentation to the contrary surfaces. Thanks for your time and comments, John. BTW, can you give me the 1, 2, 3 line up for the family of Beverley Anthony Allen as my stuff is fragmented. Regards on this nice Monday morning. Payne ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R.
