Joseph Harrison Daniel and Aletha Baylis are my ggg-grandparents. >From the 1850 Jefferson County, Alabama census, Joseph's father John B. Daniel was 81, and born in Virginia. Aletha's parents are shown as George L. Baylis, age 74, born in Virginia, and Martha, age 74, born in South Carolina. Joseph (1817-1902) said he was born in South Carolina, and Aletha (1817-1896) in Alabama. Joseph and Aletha Daniel were married about 1834 (from memory) in Jefferson County, Alabama, where all their children were born. Joseph was a farmer and homesteaded land. Children are: Nancy Bethanie, Martha Elizabeth, William Robert, John Lewis, Susan Christina, and Sara Rosaline. My gg-grandfather is John Lewis Daniel, born 8-15-1855, died 5-6-1899. He married Dianah E. Woodard (11-8-1854 to 5-25-1922) on Dec. 25, 1870 in Jefferson County, AL. They had 4 children: Martha Evergreen (10-4-1871 to 1-10-1951), William Joe (1-18-1874 to 7-26-1954), Nancy Elizabeth (1-6-1878 to 7-13-1966) James F. Barnett (9-1890 to 10-13-1927). My great-grandmother Nancy Elizabeth Daniel married William Franklin Sims (6-12-1861 to 4-3-1929) and had 7 children: Lonna Iola, William Arthur, Albert Henry, Nanny Viola, Ethel Irene, Edyth Elizabeth, Pelham Buford.
