Marmaduke Daniel, the notorious Mississippi Freebooter, was not part Indian. He married Nanny Still who was perhaps 1/2 Native American "Cherokee" and settled in the Cherokee Nation East in NC. He was not involved in any massacres as far as the available records show. We have not absolutely identified the parentage of this Marmaduke who is one of several confusing Marmadukes? Thanks for the suggestion Doyle this is a worthwhile study. http://paynedaniel.com Daniel Cherokees including Marmaduke and Nanny.
