My great grandmother was Martha Elizabeth Swanner b. 1862 KY dau. Of Enoch Gray Swanner b. 28 Dec 1828 (according to several census he was born in TN) who was the son of James Swanner b.1790 Martin Co., NC. James married 2 times....1st to Anna Cherry in 1816 in Beaufort Co., NC and 2nd to Cynthia Ann Daniel 5 Mar 1838 Marshall Co., TN. I do not know which of these wives was the Mother of my great great grandfather, Enoch Gray Swanner. My grandfather, Edwin Grey Cope, was the son of Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Swanner who married Rynard Justus Cope. My father was Edwin Glass Cope and my full name is Anne Grey Cope Hart. As you can see the GRAY/GREY name has been handed down through the years.
