Here is the 1828 Will of John GARRETT. <<< Will of John Garrett Greene Co., Georgia In the name of God Amen. I, John Garrett, farmer of the State of Georgia and County of Greene, being of sound mind and memory, recollecting the certainty of death, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. It is my will and desire that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner and as it respects such worldly Estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life, I desire and dispose of the same in the following manner and form, viz.: First, it is my will and desire my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Item 2: It is my will and desire and I d will and bequeath unto my three grandchildren of Tho. B. Garrett (viz.) Martha E. Garrett, John A. Garrett, and Arne M. Garrett, the following Negroes namely Sally, a woman, and Lindy, a girl, nick a boy, Pello a fellow and increase but for the use of Thomas B. Garrett my son during his natural life. Item 3rd: It is my will and desire and I do hereby give and bequeath to my Executors hereafter to be named their negroes namely Caty, a woman, Booker, a boy, Richard a boy, all to be applied to and for the ____ of Elizabeth W. Dickinson here lifetime and after her death to her legal children of any in fee simple but in case of no child or children legal heirs then it is further my order and desire that three Negroes (viz) Caty, Booker, and Richard with increase to be legally divided among all my children or their legal representatives, also one bed bedstead furniture. Garrett during his life and after his death to his legal children, if any, in fee simple. Item 6th: It is my will and desire and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my daughter, Nancy B. Also one bed and bedstead furniture. Item 8th: It is my will and desire and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my son, Lumpkin J. Garrett, the following Negroes namely Ginney , a girl, Old David, a man, Peter, a man, Aggy, a woman, Little David, a boy, and Morris, a boy, and increase to be his property in fee simple at the age of twenty two years also one bed bedstead furniture. Item 9th: It is further my will and desire and I do hereby require that all my household and kitchen furniture, stock of all kinds, farming utensils, wagon and gear with all other property not otherwise divided to be sold at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named. Item 10th: It is further my will and desire that all my land be sold at the discretion of my Executors and after all my just debts are paid, the overplus, if any, to be equally divided between all my children and grandchildren special. The said John Garrett do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint John W. Garrett, Ezekiel Daniel and Thomas B. Garrett my lawful Executors to execute this my last Will and testament hereby nullifying and revoking all former wills and testaments legacies and bequeaths heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
