Good day, All. While following a line of DANIEL/HATCHER/MORGAN cousins into Callahan County, Texas, found a W. D. DANIEL in the 1900 census, Series: T623 Roll: 1617 Page: 9. Census says he was born Apr 1852 in GA, parents born in GA, married for 10 years to Mollie born 1867 in TX, parents born in TX. Their son appears to be Bertrum, 9, born 1891 in TX. Don't know who W. D. DANIEL is, but Henry S. and Mary Hatcher MORGAN's family lives six homes away. Mary Claudia HATCHER, born 1852, Dallas County, Alabama, daughter of Richard HATCHER and Sarah Hayes BENNETT, is a granddaughter of Jeremiah HATCHER and Mary DANIEL of Edgefield County, SC. Can anyone identify W. D.? Robert
Robert, Surely, with a name like Jeremiah HATCHER, this family is from Southside VA. I wonder where the MORGANS are from...? Mary POOLE, of the family I think is Ray's, married a John MORGAN, s/o Reuben, s/o Phillip MORGAN. Hi, Bob, I always poke around on TX Daniels (gently, I rarely puncture them), but I didn't get around to sending this before leaving town a while back. Bertram's WW1 card says he's Bertram Beverly Daniel, b. 30 Jun 1891 in Baird (seat of Callahan), a bookkeeper, next of kin said only "wife and mother", no names, his residence is Los Angeles. He's on later census out there, and his mother Mollie came out too, but not in same household. CA Death Index says he d. 25 Jan 1961, mmn was Luton, (but she and her parents b. TX in census, so it doesn't look like a travel-together-from-GA marriage). Mollie Luton in 1880 is with her mother Samantha and a stepfather J.M. Hayden - that's the "father-in-law" on the 1900 census, kinda nice for the family, havoc on later genealogy, eh? Never found anything firm for W.D. Daniel in census, but 1910 calls him W.B., may be significant given Bertram's later census: in 1930 CA he has wf Clara E., son Ward B. (hmmm), dau Norma J. World connect says that's Ward Beverly, and that there was another son Gilbert William. One candidate that made me sit up in earlier census was a Wiley, b. 1851/2 GA living in Hill TX 1860, kind of on the way to Callahan, three counties away (so it would only take two days to get there in a fast car today, only slightly joking). That possibility broke down, but may be a relation, that family is actually Drury (but b. SC) and Mary Ann Daniel; they end up in Bosque, a near county and the Wiley turns out to be a William H. with wife Lucy. The other candidate that was interesting to me was William B. Daniel age 28 in 1880 Palo Pinto, widower with one young daughter Lillian D. age 2 (but it would mean he waited 10 years to remarry unless there was another wife in between). This also broke down and this William B. may be the Wiley B. Daniel in Palo Pinto in 1900, b. Sep 1853, with a new wife (highly likely, maybe shouldn't even mention this guy). Palo Pinto is farther away and on the way to Callahan from a more northeast direction, but what the hey. Not much on identifying W.D. except maybe the Beverly name, but it eliminated another possible TX Daniel collateral for me! But you know the drill, 27 bucks for the SS application and you've got your answers....
