    1. [DANIEL] Roll Call - Isham John Daniel, Sumter Co., AL and Hinds Co., MS
    2. This is what I have found so far on my Isham John Daniel: He was born in 1829 in Sumter Co., Alabama. He married on 30 Mar 1848 in Sumter Co., AL to Mary Adeliza Rainey, b. 26 Jan 1829 in Georgia. They had the following children: Eugene A., b. 25 Mar 1849 in Sumter Co., AL, d. 14 Jan 1935 in Putnam Co., GA; Mary A., b. abt 1851; Isham?, b. abt 1853; Matilda "Mattie" A., b. abt 1856; and Charlie B., b. abt 1863. I have found Isham John Daniel in the following census records: 1850 - Intercourse, Sumter, AL - listed are: Isham J. Daniel, (21, clerk, AL); Mary A., (21, GA) and Eugenia (correctly listed as a male), (10/12, AL). I also found on the page immediately preceding this one a Samuel D. Daniel (27, merchant, NC), Sarah D. (28, AL), and Lewis Hitt, (9, AL). I do not know whether or not he is related to my Isham John Daniel. 1860 - Auburn, Hinds, MS - listed in the Heritage Quest transcribed index as J.J. Daniel (31, AL, Presbyterian Minister))living with M.A. Daniel (31, GA), E.A. Daniel (11, AL), M.A. Daniel, Jr. (9, AL), I. Daniel (7, MS) and M.A. Daniel (4, MS). 1870 - Edwards, Hinds, MS - listed in the Heritage Quest transcribed index as Isham J. Daniels (41, MS, minister), Mary A. (41, GA), Mary A. (19, AL), Mattie A. (13, MS), Charly B. (7, MS). Living with them is Fields, Nescia (60, B, KY, cook) 1880 - Edwards, Hinds, MS - listed in the LDS transcribed index as Johann Daniel, however upon personal examination of the original page it is clearly Isham J. Daniel. Listed are: Daniel, Isham J., (51, clergyman, AL, NC, VA); Mary A., (51, GA, GA, GA); Mary A., (28, AL, AL, GA); Mattie A., (23, MS, AL, GA); Charlie B., (17, MS, AL, GA). Also listed in this household is Reinhardt, Chas., (16, nephew, MS, Germany, AL). I have also been in touch with the Presbyterian History Center, where I found that he was Pastor in Bryan, Texas from 1886 to 1888. After that he retired and died sometime before 1900. Regarding his wife, Mary Adeliza Rainey, I have been told by Rainey researchers that her parents were James Harvey Rainey, b. 18 Nov 1794, d. 1845, and Angeline Maria Adams, b. 1799. d. 1832. Their other children were: Elizabeth M., b. 6 Dec 1818; William B., b. 19 May 1820; Harriet, b. 16 Dec 1821, d. 14 Sep 1894; Juliet Marion, b. 11 Aug 1825, d. 24 Jun 1887; James George, b. Sep 1827; and Albina, b. 17 Apr 1831. Now, I found a marriage record for an Albina Rainey to Benjamin Hitt, but it is dated 1838, which doesn't seem right to me, perhaps this marriage was for an aunt or other relative. However the Hitt surname fits in with the Samuel D. Daniel that I found in the 1850 census records. Any help is greatly and gratefully appreciated. Regards, Linda Scott
