Daniel was born June 28, 1821 to Robert C. & Nancy Kimsey Daniel. Mary Polly died early, on December 31, 1856. Her daughter Annie Criscoe married John Grant Bates in Normandy Tenn in 1881. Their son Charles King Bates (1885-1964) married Virginia L. Mosier. Your Mom Annie married Joe McNew. So I guess that makes old Robert C. Daniel your ggg-grandfather. My great-grandfather Humphrey Posey Kinsey Daniel was born Jan 18, 1825 to Robert & Nancy. This makes us distant cousins. H.P.K. moved to Mississippi in 1851, and my father and grandfather were both born there near Port Gibson. I was in the dark about my Tennessee heritage for a long time, but thanks to Evelyn Daniel Van Meter of Moore Co Tenn who inherited the old Robert C. Daniel Family Bible, I eventually made the connection in 2003. Since then we have made a lot of progress, and yes, some controversy. I'm not going to use this message board to detail all of this, but we now are very sure that Robert C. Daniel was the son of Hiram Daniel b. circa 1770 d. 1821 Rhea Co Tenn, and that Robert C. was the brother of Plummer Daniel who lived in Bedford Co for a while but later moved to Wayne Co Tenn where he is buried. The Daniel DNA project has helped us sort a lot of this out. Few folks living near Lynchburg in Moore Co Tenn are convinced. Dear Cousin Evelyn, who spent many years of research into this died week before last and I'm sure she went to her grave convinced that old Joseph & Elizabeth were the parents of R.C. Daniel. Cousin Wayne Daniel lives there, and although he is a DNA match with me, I'm not sure he doesn't still think Evelyn was right. Part of the problem is that R.C. Daniel is buried on a hill on Daniel Hollow just north of Lynchburg. Daniel Hollow road starts just past Motlow Community College. Seems that it may have been Lem Motlow's brother Felix that was responsible for the assignment of R.C. Daniel to the Joseph & Elizabeth Daniel family in the 1940's or so. Please write directly to me and not only will I give you more of the information I have, but will introduce you to Wayne Daniel who probably thinks like you do. He can also show you the grave of Robert C. Daniel (b. July 18, 1791 d. May 16, 1870) down there overlooking Daniel Hollow. You should walk up the hill and see the marker the family got from the Veteran's Administration showing Robert's War of 1812 service. Trust me, you will never forget it, whatever you might believe about Robert's parents. Your Cousin, Clay C. Daniels, Jr. Fort Worth, Texas clay.daniels@sbcglobal.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
