Hi Pam,   Thanks for sending this info. I did see the record on the drum. LOL !   Those two sources sounds so confusing as to their dates,. I know they have Vivion  (Vivian)Daniel as a Sergeant on Ancestry as I subscribe to it. But I don't know about the Captain info.   Also Vivion Daniel did serve on Orange County Commitee of Safety with James Madison 1774-1775. The Captain and the dates is what is bothering me. I would like to know when he left service and the true rank he held. If I wanted to join the DAR I would have to be able to prove it. :)   Best Wishes, Marianne  Dillow   From: P. A. [snip] > If I wanted to join the DAR I would have to be able to prove it. :) Men were so in and out of service at various ranks and in different organizations (county v. state, militia v. continental, etc.), there's not always a straight path in service ranks. Those officer appointments are from the county order books, so they stand as proof. But you have dates within the DAR range, including the supply of provisions. I'm also pretty sure Vivion is still in the DAR Patriot Index, so his service is already accepted and you just have to prove descent from him. You can request a check on his status at the DAR site.
