It is in the middle of trees and underbrush that a friend of mine had to crawl through and over thousands of broken bottles, clothes, and junk to reach the site. The Mary S Daniel below is Mary S Newcomb, daughter of Jesse Newcomb and Elizabeth Skelton, who married William T Daniel. We don't know who the others are. 1. [DANIEL] This and That
    2. Payne Daniel
    3. Greetings silent members of the Daniel-List. I trust that your lives are productive, and that you can stay in out of the cold! Sometime last year when we moved many of my source records were destroyed or lost. A friend sent me a copy of "Virginia Genealogies", "A genealogy of the Glassell Family", by Rev. Horace Hayden, with the inclusion of the "Daniel Family of Virginia and North Carolina". The implication given by the inclusion of the "English Visitations 1623 - 1664" in this work is that Col. William Daniel of Wigan Co., England, you know the William that married Dorothy Forth, was somehow a progenitor of the Middlesex, Virginia Daniel Family. Of course Hayden begins his rendition with James Daniel (b. cir. 1680) because there is not enough hard data to assign him as the son of William Daniel of Middlesex Co., Va. I do, however, have James assigned as a son of William Daniell of Middlesex Co., Va. William Daniel of Wigan Esq., (1626 - 1695) was living in England in 1673 and he was married to Dorothy Forth with two sons - William and Henry, and 6 daughters. There is no documentation that his William or any of his issue came over to America. William Daniell (1638-1698) of Middlesex County Co., Va. was roaming around that county as early as 1665 and he was married to "unknown and Jochabed Smith". There is some disagreement about Jochabed, but that is not the point of this email. It appears that the Hayden genealogy of James Daniel of Middlesex is accurate or in line with most documentation available. The point, and this is ensconced incorrectly in World Family Tree Maker, Col. William Daniel of Wigan and Capt. and William Daniel of Middlesex were not the same cat, nor is there any indication that Col William or any of the Lancashire Englanders moved to America. The is also no proof that a Thomas Daniel was the father of William Daniel of Middlesex Co., Va. The parents of Col. William Daniel of Wigan were Piers/Peter Daniel and Christian Grosenvor . Researchers have been unable to find William of Middlesex's parents. Kevin or my friend Roy in England may know if this situation has changed? Any new info or corrections are always appreciated. TOC

They lived in Orange County, Va annd moved ca 1791 to Fayette Co., Ky and  Vivion died 1803 in Clark Co., Ky. and left his will which I have a copy of.   I am trying to get his Rev War service straightened out. He served on the Orange County Safety Commitee with James Madison 1774-1775.   According to Va. Military Records from the Magazine of History and Biography ; Wm & Mary and Tylers Quarterly,  Vivion Daniel was a Captain in the Orange Co., Va Militia, resigning 23 May 1776. Also, it is stated he is reported as having pay for Service in Col. Taylor's Regiment, Aug 1779 (See McAlister's Virginia Militia.)   According to Gwathney, Vivion Daniel was in the Orange County, Va Militia and resigned 7 Feb 1777. Served as a Sergeant in Col. Taylor's Regiment. I don't know if there was a pension or not.   Any help in straightening this war record out would greatly be appreciated.   Marianne Dillow Illinois

    1. [DANIEL] Daniel Folks in Early GA.
    2. Does anyone recognize or lay claim to the following Daniel people who registered for the 1807 GA. Lottery (for land in the newly opened area of Baldwin Co.)? They were all registered from Capt. Beal's (Beales?) District which encompassed the area of Oglethorpe Co. which included the area of the Kettle Creek Battleground, and formerly was a part of Wilkes Co. (far eastern section of Oglethorpe). These names are all DANIEL (ONE "L"), and not all drew land. Names are as follows: Betsey Ann Daniel, James Daniel, Jennie Daniel, Samuel Daniel, Thomas Daniel, Rebekah Daniel, Richard Daniel (son of Rebekah Daniel), Richard Daniel (Dec'd). This Thomas Daniel, b. 1786, GA (my elusive ggggrand) registered as an "Orphan" and drew land in Baldwin , which he never lived on, apparently. Thomas was on the 1807 Oglethorpe Tax List, with one Poll. He married in Dec. 1807. Can anyone lay claim to or identify the others?? Appreciate any info or thoughts. BTW - I recently located not one, but two, real, live direct male descendants of old 1786 Thomas, and the DNA test went forward to the Lab before Christmas. YEAH!! 1. [DANIEL] Vivion Daniel - a couple of other notes.
    2. Jack Butler
    3. Since I was playing around in my subscription databases, I tried Vivion Daniel in GenealogyBank.com and found two references: On Saturday, 27 November 1813, Vivion Daniel ran an advertisment in The Reporter, a newspaper in Lexington, Kentucky. The ad said that Vivion Daniel had "taken up" a sorrell horse. The ad describes the horse in some detail and sets the appraised value at $18. The ad was placed by the local Justice of the Peace. I believe that he had found this horse and was giving the owner a chance to regain or sell him the horse. He signed the "Memorial of citizens of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, in favor of a restoration of the deposites. April 8, 1834". By one of those odd little coincidences in life, I just finished reading a new book about Andrew Jackson last night and recognized this memorial as a plea to Congress to force the Excutive Branch of the U.S. Government to restore recently removed U.S. funds deposits to the United States Bank. Andrew Jackson believed the bank to be a dangerously corrupting influence on the government (Congressmen who supported bills the bank favored tended to get substantial loans at very favorable rates.) so he removed all U. S. funds from the national bank and deposited them in various State banks. It was a huge political battle in 1834, but Jackson won and the Banked ceased to exist. Jack Butler
