    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: deena0928 Surnames: Daniel, Hawkins, Mitchell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.daniel/2275/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on Daniel's that lived in Roane County, Tennessee in about 1830. My ancester, Jackson Daniel (sometimes listed as Andrew Jackson Daniel), stated he was born in Roane County, Tennessee. He was born sometime around 1829-1832. On the 1880 census, he lists his parents as being born in South Carolina. Jackson married Nancy E Hawkins in Greene County, Missouri in 1853. The lived in Barry County, Missouri in 1860. In 1865, they were in Miami County, Kansas. By 1870, they were back in Polk County, Missouri. In 1880, they were in Dade County, Missouri. After Nancy's death, Jackson married her sister Amanda (Manda) M Hawkins Ince. Jackson died about 1886, supposedly in Arkansas. Jackson was listed as a "mulatto" on the 1860 census. It is believed that he was part Cherokee. Jackson's daughter, Margaret Gertrude Daniel Mitchell, is quoted as saying that her father walked the Trail of Tears. I have not been able to find any information on him prior to his marriage in 1853. Any info would be helpful!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: claydaniels1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.daniel/1141.5.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: We have started to receive DNA results from Randy Daniel who descends from Theophilus Daniel. As a descendant of the Hiram Daniel family, I am not a match with Randy. He does however have three matches, one of whom Charlie Q. Daniel traces his roots back to Theophilus and to William & Elizabeth beyond that. Members of the Theophilus Daniel family will want to contact Randy & Charlie for more info. What we now KNOW is that the Hiram Daniel family is NOT related to the Theophilus Daniel family. What we might be lead to BELIEVE is that the DNA somehow shows that Theophilus Daniel is a son of William & Elizabeth. This is not necessarily true, nor is it necessarily false. There are too many folks besides my little Hiram Daniel family who seem to be sniffing around this old family tree. Pam, you are exactly right is that all of this is a work in progress. A personal note here is that on Monday the best historian of my Robert C. Daniel family of Moore Co Tennessee died. She believed that Robert was a son of Joseph Daniel who was the grandfather of Jack Daniel of whiskey fame, mostly lead on by the Motlow's and the proximity there near Lynchburg. The DNA proved this to be incorrect, but her research into all of Robert's children will forever guide us. She had inherited the family Bible. So we need to be careful in differentiating between our earliest KNOWN ancestors and their SUSPECTED parents. Thanks again to Randy for contributing to the Daniel DNA project. One more step forward. We encourage others to participate. Also, I'm not terribly fond of these message board postings., which eventually do make it to our Daniel email list. Folks might consider joining our email list. So for now, I will move on to, like my dog Miss Puppies, sniff & pee at some of the two hundred year old family trees in North Carolina, Tennessee and even Georgia where the DNA says we have a couple of branches of the Hiram Daniel family tree that we have yet to figure out how they fit. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: paadell1 Surnames: Daniel, Skinner Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.daniel/1141.5.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am the person who put up the talesofold.net website. I think we can be relatively sure that there was a William Daniel, father of Theophilus and others. As for his details, they are a bit skimpy. One line of the family says he and his wife Elizabeth Skinner were married in New York, but I believe we can rule that out, and put the marriage later in SC. There was a large gap in years between the original marriage in New York date and the arrival of the children. That does not compute in that era. As for his origins in Ireland, or that of Penelope, I think that is also doubtful. We may never know for sure, but there are some interesting Daniel and Skinner families in Virginia in the earliest dates of the colonies. I think that is information that might be interesting to consider. To clarify the source of the talesofold.net website, it originally was based on the database used by Connie Anderson which she provided to me shortly before her death. I have since added to it, and m! ade corrections. Earlier researchers had also provided information which is included in the database. She had hoped that people would not have to plow the original fields, and would be able to continue to add to the information. It is all information that she wanted to continue after her death. Many researchers have added information over the years, and helped to correct some errors. I am sure there continue to be errors, and we continue working on that. It IS a work in progress. If a line is not included, it might be that we have just not "found" you yet! And yes, there were a LOT of William Daniel men! That makes things harder!
