Posted in the Wichita Falls, TX, Times Record News on Jan. 10, 2002. No relation to me and no other information available. DANIELS, O. C. 71, of Quanah, TX, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Wichita Falls, TX. Survivors: a brother, Wayne Alford of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Burial in Quanah Memorial Park.
Good Evening, Payne, Yes, I am here, as always. I have been looking at several other lists and websites the last several weeks because I am not seeing the collateral information I need on several DANIEL families, especially that Orange County, VA bunch or the New Brunswick County, NC DANIELL bunch, both of which interest me, greatly. I was looking over the Reuben DANIEL from Orange County, VA and there is one website that seems to have some information that seems to be quite a bit different than what you generally list for Reuben DANIEL (1721-1779) out of the Middlesex bunch. Seems there were more than one Reuben DANIEL in Orange and these may have become commingled. From what I could tell, the Reuben of Orange County, later Spotsylvania County, VA. was tied to the LINDSAYS and there were lots of DANIEL names around that Reuben of which I have never heard before. Interesting... As for the Charleston and New Hanover and Brunswick County, NC bunch, I have not gained a lot that is new but I will tell you the ROBERT family of Charleston is all over a lot of their close collaterals and they are really all over the John DANIEL the Shipwright collateral families. Searching for Martin DANIEL, wife Louise and children, Amalie and Louise. Arrived Galveston, TX September 17, 1909 from Blumenfeld, Russia on SS Cassel with purported destination of Carnegie, OK. Traveling with Martin's sister, Catherine Daniel SPADT, husband George SPADT and their five children. SPADT's settled in Russell, KS before removing to Montana c1914. Don't know what happened to the DANIEL family after arrival in Galveston. Would be grateful for any information. Thank you. R/ ........................................... S T E V E N M I T C H E L L
Good Evening, Well, I must have walked right over this one, didn't I, but I caught it, finally. <grin> GUTTERY or GUTHERIE sure seems to points in one direction -- Middlesex County, VA. However, the NAPIERS are normally connected to the WOODSONS and I generally tend to believe that any DANIEL connected to the WOODSONS is usually out of the Roger DANIELL line. However, some of the given names (George, Catherine, Richard and Robert) listed by Michelle in her 1/18/2004 DANIEL post sure seem to point right back in the Middlesex bunch, don't they? One of the name patterns that intrigued me was the William DANIEL and Lucy listed in the GUTHERIE will provided by Michelle. Who was this William DANIEL? I do not know on this one but when you take away that Sarah BURNEY marriage from Thomas DANIEL of Greene County, GA and substitute Sarah RANDALL for it -- you point Thomas DANIEL right back to VA and not NC. I personally would not overlook the possibility there may well have been two Thomas DANIELS in Greene County, GA. One of these was a Virginia DANIEL married to a Sarah RANDALL and the other, a NC DANIEL married to a Sarah BURNEY. I have always felt when faced with a complicated situation, the best solution is usually the simplest one and the simplest explanation seems to be -- there were two Thomas DANIELS who lived in Greene County, GA in the same time frame -- one from VA and one from NC. John, I must have missed something, here. Which George was married to a NIXON. The only NIXON I know around a DANIEL family was in the family of William DANIELL, Sr. (1743-1840) of Clarke, later Oconee County, GA. William was originally from Brunswick County, NC. His son, James DANIELL (1763-1819) RS-NC supposedly married a Sarah NIXON born Onslow County, NC, the d/o John NIXON and Sarah WILLIAMS. James and Sarah supposedly lived and died in Clarke County, GA. James's younger brother, George DANIELL, Sr. (1783-1855), married an Ellen BARBER and they moved to Smith County, TX. I have developed a keen interest in this family of William DANIELL, Sr. of Bogart, Oconee County, GA, of recent and would appreciate any links to any NC family tied them. John R. Kevin, Nancy DANIEL (ABT 1765-1828), w/o Eden COLEMAN (ABT 1764-1817), was the mother of Cynthia Ann COLEMAN (1797-1869) who married James Hunter RALLS (1793-1824) -- all of Greene County, GA. James and Cynthia's daughter, Ann Eliza RALLS (1819-1872) married Elisha Sparks HUNTER, Jr.(1814-1852) of Greene County, GA and their daughter, Mary Lou HUNTER (1848-1917) married my grand uncle, Charles W. RICHTER, Jr (1837-1907) of Madison, Morgan County, GA. The SANFORDS, GIBBS, WYNNE and NEWSON, ATKINSONS and CLARKS were also in this little group. The COLEMANS were descendants of a Daniel COLEMAN and a Unity CARROLL, of VA, we think. If you will note, the COFFEES, CARROLLS, CUNNINGHAMS, CARLTONS and the KELSO-DANIEL bunch floated, together, from VA to NC and then to GA. The RALLS or RAWLS were from Overwharton Parish, Stafford County., VA, later Amherst County, VA and my thought is the COLEMANS were probably also part of this VA bunch. Vincent SANFORD (1777-1859) of Greene County, GA married Cynthia Ann COLEMAN (1797-1869) in 1832 after James Hunter RALLS died. They had one son, Vincent Seadman SANFORD, later Dean of the University of GA. What the KY deed you listed is telling me is these folks were from a northern VA DANIEL family from the Stafford and probably the Augusta County, VA area, which fits right in with the Kelso-DANIEL bunch, as well as the COFFEES, CUNNINGHAMS and the others we already know from this area of VA. Families, which also migrated to Greene County, GA along with most of these family. The answer may lie in PE County, VA since the Coffees, Cunningham's and some of the others later migrated to GA from this area. This is just more evidence that Thomas DANIEL of Greene County, GA was a VA DANIEL and quite possibly out of this same COFFEE-KELSO-CUNNINGHAM-DANIEL bunch that also migrated to Greene County, GA since their descendants marry into this overall bunch, as well as the fact -- they meet the profile of this bunch. I also do not know how an eastern NC family like the BURNEYS fits in all of this, if at all. We know that some say Thomas DANIEL married a Sarah BURNEY and some say he married a Sarah RANDALL. I would almost bet money the RANDALLS were a part of this group, since they were also a VA family and they are all over them, later. However, who Thomas DANIEL actually married, I do not know but my bet would be -- the mother of his children was a RANDALL, as opposed to being a NC BURNEY. There is one other possibility, there was a James Gillespie BIRNEY (1767-1839) who married a Martha REED. He migrated from IRELAND to Danville, Mercer County, KY and his descendants, later, to Huntsville, Madison County, AL. My notes on this BIRNEY state he migrated first to PA and then to KY and we know that some of this CUNNINGHAM-COFFEE-CARROLL, CARLTON, etc bunch also seems to have come this exact same route to GA. Due to the slavery issue, some of these BIRNEYS moved back to Maryland before the CW. This is a real possibility for this Sarah BURNEY and these BIRNEYS do meet the profile of this bunch. We also know the REEDS were also an Augusta County, VA family and a lot of this bunch seems to have migrated through that area of VA to GA and they were all either first of second generation Irish families. A connection, I do not know but what I do know is -- the family of General William M. BIRNEY (1819-1907) and Catherine HOFFMAN of Forest Glen, MD is related to my bunch. In fact, their son, Theodore Weld BIRNEY, Esq. (1854-1897) married Charles RICHTER's cousin, Alice Josephine McCLELLAN (1858-1907) of Marietta, GA, in 1892 as her second husband. She had previously married Alonzo James WHITE, Jr. Esq. (1845-1877), who was out of the Blake Leah WHITE family of Charleston. Alice was my 2C1R and Alice was also the name of my grandmother, Alice E. DANIEL (1854-1924), born four years before Alice McCLELLAN. The McCLELLANS were from Horry County, SC, before they migrated to Marietta, GA and tied up with my TATUM bunch, there. The TATUMS and the RICHTERS had migrated from St. Croix, DWI to GA in the 1830-1840 time frame -- Margaret POTTER (1810-1863) married Jesse TATUM and her older sister, Anne Eliza POTTER (1808-1863), married Charles W. RICHTER, Sr. The mother of these POTTER girls was a Margaret WHITE (1790-1849), d/o a Captain John WHITE, so we see the WHITE connection once again in this bunch. Before then, the TATUMS were of Barbados and were tied to, get this, the WAINWRIGHTS. My overall bunch also seems to be nothing but a St. Croix, Barbados and Charleston extended family with possibly links to NC and VA. What I do not know is whether my DANIEL bunch, who also tie into the RICHTERS, was a part of this VA bunch in Greene County, GA or they were from another DANIEL line with links to this same area in SC. My guess is the latter. John R. Kevin, Allow me to add to the Reuben Guthrie/Thomas DANIELL connection with the following Greene Co. Ga. deed abstract: Page 213: 27 Aug 1796. "I Thomas DANIELL of Greene Co. for the love and good will I bear toward my trusty friend Reuben GUTTERY...all that tract of land in the Commonwealth of Kentucky tho when surveyed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, on Kentucky River in Fayette Co. about two miles below the mouth of Jack's Creek cont. 200 acres, by survey dated 23 Sept 1785, granted to said Thomas DANIELL 21 April 1792 and signed by Henry LEE Esq. then Governor of Va. I give the aforesaid land ...but not to warrant & defend same from any other person or persons whatsoever." Signed Thos. DANIELL. Wit: Peter MARTIN, Jonas FAUCHE. Proved by the witnesses 29 Aug 1796 before Wm. Fitzpatrick J.P. Reg. 29 Aug 1796. This witnesses are MARTIN (first husband of Elizabeth DANIELL, dau of Thomas) and FAUCHE (Husband of Mary, called Polly in 20 Oct 1793 Greene Co. marriage record, I believe also a dau of Thomas). There is also a Greene Co. will of Sally Fitzsimmons (recorded 17 Sept 1804) that names sister Nancy COLEMAN (Thomas daughter, wife of Eden COLEMAN), sister Betsy COOPER (Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas whose second husband was James COOPER), brother William DANIEL and appointed brothers-in law James COOPER and Jonas FAUCHE as administrators. Also mentions her father and mother (not by name) and implication is they are both alive. Saslly is yet another child I didn't have for this family. Fauche was a soldier of some renown in Ga history, Adjutant General of Ga. form 1795 to 1806, and a delegate on the committee creating the Ga. constitution in Louisviile on 30 May 1798 and one of the first commissioners of Greensboro, Ga. Mike Daniel

I mentioned yesterday that the Moses Daniel who was born in 1804 was the son of James and Anna Echols Daniel. Apparently that is an error. I have been informed by a lists member that a message on Roostweb.com states that Moses Daniel, wife Dorothea, parents of Elisha was the son of Jacob and Sally Simms Daniel and that appears more likely than Moses being the son of James and Anna. Their son would have been born in 1781 and died in 1826, and what threw me off was that this Moses was also assigned a wife Dorothy. So, I am interested in the issue of Jacob and Sally Simms Daniel to see if I have them correct. A Charles Lucas has written a paper about a John Lucas and therein may lie the true story of the Moses born 1804. Anyone familiar with this Roots.web reference please give me the benefit of your knowledge. My sincerest thanks to the List Member who was kind enough to help me out on the Moses assignment. RE: It appears that John Cason is not the player I thought he might be. Interesting to find out just who Robert was? Payne, There were two DANIEL groups located very close to each other on the 1790 Pitt County, NC census. They was a Joseph DANIEL and then a Thomas, Lanier and Robert DANIEL. They are located quite far from each other. The last three were right together and we know who they were The, there were also two DANNEL families and they were not located that far from one another on the 1790 Pitt County, NC census or from the DANIEL families already mentioned. There was a George and a Robert DANNELS. Since their name was not spelled the same, I think they were separate and distinct families. However, since I am looking at a abstract and often different census pages were written by different folks, they may be part of the same DANIEL family and one census taker wrote their name as DANIEL and another wrote it as DANNELS. Regardless, some known T&E families seem to be around all of them. I do not know on this one but maybe someone will see something I am not. The Robert that has interested me in the past is the Robert DANNELS. Their census records are listed below. P, No, Horry County, SC is just north Georgetown, which is up the coast from Charleston, right on the NC border. Myrtle Beach is in Horry County, SC, pronounced Orry County, SC but the county seat is Conway, SC, as I remember. Horry County, SC is right next to Brunswick County, NC and lots of families from both of these counties, intermarried. In short, Horry was originally part of colonial Craven County, Horry County has also been part of Prince George Winyah (1722), Prince Frederick (1734), and All Saints (1767) parishes, which served as early religious and civic jurisdictions. This area, which became part of newly-formed Georgetown District in 1769, was given its present boundaries and named Kingston County in 1785. In 1801, it was renamed Horry District, and, in 1868, Horry County. Horry County, SC was named for Peter Horry, a Planter of French Huguenot descent, Peter Horry (O-ree) was born in SC ca. 1747. A lieutenant colonel in the Revolution and later brigadier general in the SC Militia, he represented Prince George Winyah and All Saints parishes in the SC House and Senate. In 1801, Kingston County was renamed Horry District for Peter Horry. He died in 1815 and is buried at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbia, SC. Now, before someone argues with this definition as to the formation of Horry County, SC, as they usually do around here, let me state this definition is verbatim from description for this county from the Horry County, SC Historical Society website. <grin> As for Robert DANIEL and John CASON, I feel John CASON has to be out of that CASON bunch who were located around the CANNONS, MOORES, MOYES and Robert Lanier DANIEL in Pitt County, NC in 1790. Which one of John's girls married a DANIEL, I do not know and which DANIEL she married, I do not know. John R. Yep, I know. One would assume that Aaron Daniel Sr., of "yet to be unproven" Lenoir Co., NC, would be the father of Aaron Jr., of Tyrrell Co., NC, and they moved off to Georgia. What is the story about the sojourn in Horry Co., SC, isn't that the County Charleston is in? Now this is a question I have posed before that has not returned with a satisfactory response. Assume that I don't have a clue and clue me in. Who exactly was John Cason of 1789 and who exactly who was the Robert Daniel his grandson? Payne, I don't know about the OW situation but what I do know is -- I am picking up all kinds of South Carolina DANIELL connections to the names, STANALAND and BECK in the Brunswick County, NC and Horry County, SC area and they sure seem not tied to a DANIEL family, either. We also know an Aaron DANIEL lived in Horry County, SC, later. It makes one wonder where and what family Aaron DANIEL, Jr. of Tattnall County, GA was actually from, doesn't it? I also assume you know why I am all over these areas, as of late. <grin> John R.
