Dennis, What is interesting to me is that two of my 3rd GGU's (John and Aaron RENEAU) are sitting right next to this bunch and my 2nd GGF, their nephew, Russell RENEAU (1807-1865), married an Elizabeth STOCKTON (1810-1888) in 1829. The father of Aaron, John and Louis (Russell's father) RENEAU, Rev. Thomas Means RENEAU RS-VA (1760-1840) migrated on to Blue River TWP, Harrison County, IN. Thomas had married a Jane RAMSEY, d/o Reynolds RAMSEY and Naomi ALEXANDER. Louis O. RENEAU, Esq. (1784-1863) married a Jane NORRIS (I do not know what happened to her) and they lived in the French Broad River area of Jefferson County, TN until ABT the 1840's when Louis moved to Atlanta and later, Savannah, GA to live with his son, Norris RENEAU. Louis O. RENEAU died in Savannah in 1863 and I have a picture of him taken about that time in Savannah. I also have a picture of his grand daughter, Mary Jane RENEAU (1830-1912), who married my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL in 1852 in Jefferson County, GA. I also have a picture of Robert W. DANIEL taken also in 1863 in Savannah. In fact, I have pictures of most of this bunch. John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis T. The wolves ought to like this one because it seems like a few of the dates of off, considerably, for this Mary DANIEL. GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS FROM REPORTED DEATHS, THE NASHVILLE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, 1861; 1872-1873 By Jonathan Kennon Thompson Smith Copyright, Jonathan K. T. Smith, 1997 JULY-DECEMBER 1872 Issue of July 20, 1872 MARY G. DANIEL late of Kenton Co., Ky.; d/o Joseph and Nancy Duncan; born Orange Co., Va. May 27, 1784; at age of 9 moved with family to Clark Co., Ky.; md Vivian Daniel, March 19, 1805; he died Aug. 3, 1839; had six daughters and five sons "all of whom lived to be grown." Death date not given. John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA
From the census list below I can tell you that Wyatt Daniel, John Stockton, Samuel Young and William Asberry were all related. Wyatt's children married into the Bristow family when they made the move from Overton Cty. Tn. to Pike Cty. Ill. William Asberry signed many deeds for and with Wyatt and my James D. Jr. in Russell and Tazewell Cty. Also there is the Spilsby Daniel marriage into the Asberry family. The Marlow you site also married into the Asberry family in Tazewell Cty. Va. Your right about the Overton connection. Wyatt, Wm. Asberry, Samuel Young all moved a little south into Overton. As to the O'Daniel connection, my Thomas Daniel had Frederick Daniel O'Daniel witness a promissary note he had made for Abrahm Bledsoe. This was in 1772 just a few years after Frederick appears in the 1767 Pittsylvania Tax List. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. Comer, GA is in MADISON COUNTY, not Oglethorpe County, although it is very close to the shared county line. My Carrington and Porterfield ancestors were from the Comer area while my Capt. Allen Daniel ancestors were from the Danielsville area in Madison County. Danielsville is the county seat of Madison County, but Comer is the largest town in the county since it is on the railroad line. Mary and Polly are usually the same persons, since Polly is a nickname for Mary. I show that James and Griselle had a daughter named, Mary "Polly" DANIEL. Were this Mary and Polly one person or two? I only know the marriage of two of James and Gilly's children, Cordial or Cordy married an AKRIDGE and Dorinda married an AKINS. Do you have the others? Also did you know that Peyton CLEMENTS had previously married an Elizabeth HARRIS in 1736 before he married Elizabeth BURFORD in 1752. Were there any children from this marriage? It would seem that a 16 year marriage would produce more kids than the William CLEMENTS b. ABT 1751 often shown as the only child of this marriage. Fifteen years is also a little long to wait for a kid, too, unless the other ones died, young. On another point, Elizabeth BURFORDS's marriage to James COMER on 4 Oct 1779 in Granville County, NC. Comer, GA is in Oglethorpe County, GA, as I remember. I wonder if they actually migrated to there and not Greene County? I also show that Elizabeth BURFORD died in Jones County, GA, which is quite a ways south of the area you are talking about in Greene County, GA., I do show her son, Jesse CLEMENTS, moved to Putnam County, GA which is in the general migration pattern for most of these Greene, Wilkes and Oglethorpe County, GA families. John, Based on James' will it does appear probable that Mary and Polly were two different individuals; Mary married to an UNK ELIAS and Polly was widoe of a Thomas SUMMERLIN. I have no knowledge of the children's marriages other than those stated in the will. Note that daughter Elizabeth was widow of John DANIEL. Any ideas who he may have been? I was unaware of Peyton's earlier marriage to Elizabeth HARRIS. Peyton's will did list a Thomas as well as William who appeared to be adults and may very well have been attributable to this earlier message. The remainder of the children (Tyree, Jesse, Phillip, and Grissell) are listed as orphans of Peyton with Elizabeth CLEMENTS as guardian in a Feb 1779 Granville Cty. Court entry. Most of the orphans show up in GA with Tyree (married Elizabeth WEST), Phillip (married Elizabeth HOWELL 8 Oct 1803 in Greene) in Greene Cty. along with a host of BURFORDS (Mom Elizabeth's folks). Mike
As long as we're discussing the DANIEL's in Henry Co., GA, may I please ask a question? Does anyone have any information regarding Trellis DANIEL who married John R. Stansel on January 18, 1855 in Henry Count? I think she is part of my DANIEL family. Thank you. Brenda in Alabama
John, thanks for the additional tid bits of info. I believe that Mike and I agree on Albert. Cheers, Payne ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. Several points here. Dennis, Some of the information you carry on your website at http://home.fuse.net/djdaniel/Wyatt.htm RE: Time Line, is very interesting. The John CHRISTIAN you list is especially interesting. As you will probably remember, I mentioned the FLEMING and CHRISTIAN connection to the RENEAUS in a previous post. Equally interesting is the Col. William CHRISTIAN (1743-1796) of Augusta County, VA, who was a sister of Nancy "Ann" CHRISTIAN who married Col. FLEMING or Roanoke, VA. Col. William CHRISTIAN had a son, named John Henry CHRISTIAN. Col. CHRISTIAN married Anne HENRY, Patrick's sister, and Col. CHRISTIAN and family later migrated to Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. If you remember, Rev. Thomas Means RENEAU RS-VA (1760-1840), migrated to Harrison County, IN. His brother, Rev. Francis RENEAU RS-VA married Lydia SEVIER, d/o General John SEVIER RS-VA of TN for whom Sevier County, TN, as well as most other instances of the name, SEVIER, was named. Rev. Francis RENEAU died in Beaver County, PA, so the two RENEAU boys listed with these STOCKTONS in 1810 were the nephews of 4th GGF, Rev. Thomas Means RENEAU. I find some of the following deeds from Cumberland County, KY very interesting, especially that Andrew McDONALD/DONALD deed and the James D. DONLEY listed in another deed. <<< Cumberland County, KY Deed Book B Abstracts 1813-1814 Ichobod STOCKTON, Lemuel & Edith STOCKTON, late of Pittsylvania, Co VA power of atty to John PARRISH and James W. Hi, There were some other people involved here more so than just your DANIEL bunch. IMHO, any DANIEL from around the Upper Neck area of VA, as yours seem to have been, were probably O'DANIEL and not DANIEL. I also noticed a MARLOW listed on your website, attached to one of your DANIELS and MARLER is a name associated with the O'DANIEL family of Fairfax County, VA, so this seems to fit. None of this is what caught my first attention to these folks. What caught my attention was John Fleming RENEAU and Aaron RENEAU sitting right next to John STOCKTON. John and Aaron RENEAU were brothers of Louis O. RENEAU (1784-1863) of the French Broad River area of Jefferson County, TN and they were also uncles of my 2nd GGF, Rev. Russell RENEAU (1807-1865) who married an Elizabeth STOCKTON (1810-1888). Their daughter, Mary Jane RENEAU, married Robert William(s) DANIEL (1809-1865) in 1852. John Fleming, Aaron and Louis RENEAU were the children of Rev. Thomas Means RENEAU (1760-1840) RS-VA and Jane RAMSEY of Blue River TWP, Harrison County, IN. I would expect that some of these folks also migrated to that same general area in a later time frame. I am sure the FLEMING middle name used for John evolved from the family of Col. William FLEMING and Ann "Nancy" CHRISTIAN of Bellmont Plantation, Roanoke, VA, which was tied to the RENEAUS through the RAMSEYS and ALEXANDERS. There were also lots of deeds tying these Cumberland County, KY families back to Overton County, TN. That is not a county in TN that I generally monitor but it does seem to tie this bunch back to TN. There were also lots of ties in all of these families back to Pittsylvania and Henry County, VA and that does interest me, especially when I see names like, FITZPATRICK floating around this whole bunch. Also, notice the ASBERRY on this same census records. ASBERRY or ASBURY is also a name that floats in the Greene County, GA DANIEL bunch and any name connected to Greene County, GA also interests me because the FITZPATRICKS first migrated from Fluvanna County, VA to Greene County, GA. I also saw the name, Wade HAMPTON, on one of the deeds from Cumberland County, KY and this is a big Charleston, SC area family name. One of the names you have on your website, KENDRICK, combined with the name, MURRAY, found in these Cumberland County, KY records, really interests me since a Harney KENDRICK married into my RENEAU bunch in Thomas County, GA and her sister married a MAY, the son of a MAY and a MURRAY out of Jefferson County, FL. Their son graduated from VMI. We also know where the MAY's of Jefferson County, FL were from -- Edgefield and Saluda County, SC area, a real big home place for the O'DANIELS. They are also tied to the LOVELESS in SC and my GGA, a Martha DANIEL (born 1812), may have married a John LOVELESS and they later migrated to AL. That, I cannot confirm but the dates of her birth and his wife, are almost identical. I know there are some that seem to try to force each and every DANIEL back into the Middlesex bunch or even the Roger DANIEL line but there is a big smell of the O'DANIELS in all of this. However, they could be from Middlesex because there is some ties between the Middlesex bunch and the FITZPATRICKS. I do not know on this one. Also, notice the TALBOTT's in all of the deeds of this bunch. This family, we are pretty sure were O'DANIEL descendants out of Fairfax County, VA. I will post, via a following message, all of the Cumberland County, VA marriages un which Nicholas TALBOTT presided. Thanks Jack, There was a Cordy age 82 married to a Nancy age 40 in Henry Co., Ga also in Henry County, GA in 1880. The age is right I checked the archieves for Henry Co.marriage and fiund that they were married in April of 1880. This would have to be his brother because Albert is listed as 68.
I believe they were to Madison, Clark, and Montgomery Counties. Kevin John R.
