    1. [DANIEL-L] DANIEL ~ who are they in Orange County, Virginia?
    2. Here I go again.... Edmund DANIEL married Elizabeth TEMBTE ~ pronounced TEMBY ~ who had been born in Maryland. He died in Georgia between 20 FEB and 24 JUN 1803, Greene County, Georgia. ~ Ten years before his son Henning DANIEL would die in 1813, Georgia. Edmund and Elizabeth named a daughter, Tembte "Temby" DANIEL [married John BAILEY]. These families had a "thing" about continuing christian names and naming their children after someone who had married into their family; my grams, granddaughter to Henning, carried the additional name of GATLIN from a daughter of Henning's, Anne Elizabeth DANIEL who married James Radford GATLIN. Another of Henning's girls Tembte Temperance "TEMBY" DANIEL married Jeptha Vining DAVIS ~ and DAVIS is what took me back to Orange County, Virginia looking for DANIELs because the DAVIS families went to Georgia about the very same time as did Edmund and Elizabeth. They were ONLY in Halifax County, North Carolina to sell the land Elizabeth had inherited from her father Dr. Henning TEMBTE. Therefore, I do not believe Charles DANIEL in Halifax NC was a brother to Edmund... obviously a friend, who perhaps was related to a DANIEL or DAVIS back in Orange County, Virginia, or even Richmond County, Virginia, but not a brother. Rev Jonathan DAVIS, bc: 1730, owned lands in both Orange County and Culpepper County, VIRGINIA ~ dc: 1818 Wilkes County, Georgia ~ Married 1756, Orange County, Virginia, to Lucy GIBBS. Their son, Rev William M. DAVIS, SR, b: 07 JAN 1765, married 05 FEB 1789, Orange County, to Nancy EASTIN or EASTON, b: OCT 1765, daughter of Philip EASTIN and Elizabeth DOUGLAS. Nancy's son, Jeptha Vining DAVIS would marry Temperance Tembte "Temby" DANIEL, mentioned above, and another son of Nancy's, William DAVIS, JR would lead to me. I have never seen the christian name of Tembte "Temby" unless connected to my families. So, does anyone know these DANIELs below... I know the DAVIS, and added a few COLEMANs that married there in the late 1700s who appear in this book, I'm sure there were many others. ALL Orange County, Virginia: 1. TEMBY DANIEL + 04 JAN 1825 [bond 31 DEC 1824] to William M. AMOS. 2. James DANIEL married LUCY DAVIS, 05 APR 1772 3. Beverly DANIEL + Jane HIATT, 28 FEB 1786, bond: Benjamin HIATT 4. James DANIEL + Alsi FINNELL, 08 APR 1707, bond: James DANIEL 5. John DANIEL + Lucy Mary MARSHALL 25 JUL 1776, bond: Thomas BELL 6. Reuben DANIEL + Elizabeth MERRY 07 NOV 1760 7. Reuben R. William DANIEL + Mary GAINES 31 JAN 1785, wit: Henry CHILDS and James DANIEL, bond: Henry CHILDS 11. Catherine DANIEL + Wyatt DAVIS, 28 JUL 1810 12. Frankey DANIEL + John HENDERSON, 02 JAN 1798 13. Jane DANIEL + George QUISENBERRY, 22 MAY 1783 14. John DANIEL + Mary WALTON, 07 SEP 1805 15. Lucy DANIEL + John CONNER, 20 NOV 1776 16. Nancy DANIEL + Elijah CURTIS, 23 JAN 1801 17. Nelly DANIEL + David GREEN, 28 OCT 1800 18. Polly DANIEL + Michael GREEN, 18 NOV 1803 19. Robert DANIEL + Kitty PRITCHETT, 19 NOV 1831 20. Sally DANIEL + William CAMPBELL, 02 OCT 1827 21. Susanna DANIEL + Elisha PICKARD, 29 NOV 1796 1. John DAVIS + Mary EASTIN 27 JUL 1789, bond: Reuben EASTIN ~ John brother to William who + her sister Nancy above mentioned on 05 FEB 1789 2. Lucy DAVIS + William GOODALL, 15 MAR 1785, bond: John DAVIS, daughter of Jonathan DAVIS and Lucy GIBBS ~ They moved to Tennessee. 1. James COLEMAN + Sarah TAYLOR 14 APR 1780 2. Thomas COLEMAN + Susannah HAWKINS, 28 JUN 1781, b: James TAYLOR 3. Francis COLEMAN + Betty DAVIS, 07 JAN 1786 4. James COLEMAN + Milly CHEW, 18 DEC 1786, bond: James TAYLOR NOTE: The present day Orange County, Virginia, established in 1734 out of its parent county, Spotsylvania. Soon to be carved from Orange would be Augusta in 1738; Culpeper in 1748; Frederick in 1738, and Greene County, VIRGINIA in 1838, per compiler of Orange County Marriages 1747~1850, John VOGT, 1990.

RaNCSw Fri 4 July 1823 3:4. He was a son of Zadock DANIEL & Elizabeth LEWIS of NC and name was John Williams Lewis DANIEL. It would seem this individual may have been a bit old to be a Confederate Officer later on. He supposedly died in 1870 in Milledgeville, Ga. However, that is a rather unique set of initials combination in the name so perhaps this is an earlier relation. Mike Daniel Mike, The one you show is James Williams Lewis Daniel, and he did marry Sarah Ann Graham, but he is not the 32 year old person mentioned. He would have been about 70 years old during the Civil War. John Lewis Daniel

Arrived America 1909 at Galveston, TX from Blumenfeld, Russia. Declared destination of Carnegie, OK. They were German Volga's traveling with the Spadt/Spath family. Spadt's settled in Russell, KS. Can find no record of this DANIEL family except for their arrival on SS Cassel at Galveston September 17, 1909. The burning question is: Where were they in 1910, 1920 and 1930? 3. One possibility? However, although the age is right, no record showing the "W." initial is known to me. John Levi DANIELL, b. 23 Feb 1830, was a son of James Levi DANIELL and Elizabeth Clements BUTTS of Hancock Co., GA, who migrated to Barbour Co., AL in 1836. He is named as a minor, John L. DANIEL, (A. C. MITCHELL, guardian) in a Petition of Eliza C. DANIEL, Admx., to sell land. A marriage record is also found in Barbour County for DANIEL, John L. & HALSEY, Antoinette E. on January 15, 1861. (daughter of Gideon HOLSEY of Hancock County, GA?) 3. Some of this family migrated to Tenn and then to Illinois. The William I referred to (b: circa 1783), I believe may have been born in the Bute/Granville area of NC, migrated to Montgomery Co., NC, then to possibly Rutherford Co. TN. Then left Montgomery Co., Tenn and on to Bond Co., Ill. I think that the 3 Daniel/Daniels in Montgomery Co. NC were related but can't find a linkage. Barton seemed to be the first to appear there in 1790. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. 2. I don't know anything about this family but if your Daniel family went to GA., you may check the census there. I only have the info from the 1820 Clark Co., Ga census and there is a Jeremiah Daniell listed with males 1-0 to 10, 2-16 to 26, females, 1-0 to 10, 1-16 to 26. There was also a William Daniell, James Daniel, and Josiah Daniel. Hope tis will help you. Cheryl

    3. IT may or may not be our Basil but this is a first find of the name Basil in VA. We did a Daniel DNA test and Edward Daniel of Henry county, Va. matched the Basil DAniel line from NC. But we are stuck in Henry county, VA. trying to find out who the parents of Edward Daniel are, also know one seems to know for certain who Basil Daniel belongs to either. 1. Re: [DANIEL-L] John W. L. DANIEL - Hilliard's Legion, CSA, Barbour County, AL

    3. Mike, I listed it wrong, Capt. John Wilhite Lewis DANIEL b: 18 AUG 1831 of Barbour County, AL was the son of James Lewis DANIEL and Matilda Ann GANT and not a son of his brother, John W. L. DANIEL and his wife, Sarah Ann GRAHAM. James and Matilda Ann GANT were married on 12 Oct 1830 in Meriwether County, GA. I have always been interested in this Barbour County, AL DANIEL line because of that Barbour County, AL return address. The reason being -- there was an Elizabeth DANIEL who married a John PERRY in Morgan County, GA in 1817 and they lived in Barbour County, AL. Elizabeth may well have been an older sister of James L. DANIEL and since John William DANIEL was Zadock's father, this may well be part of the John and James DANIEL I pick up in the 1839 Will of William DANIEL in Morgan County, GA. The one with Littleberry in it. Meriwether County, GA is also a location where there are lots of links back to Morgan County, GA, so this probably matches. In fact, my aunt, whose maiden name was ADAMS, died in Meriwether County, GA in 1971. She married my uncle, Russell Daniel RICHTER, Sr. in 1909 in Morgan County, GA. The reason the Elizabeth DANIEL and John PERRY 1817 marriage interests me is because of, first, the link to Morgan County and, second, the fact that a John PERRY (b. 1799 in NC) was living with Ann DANIEL (1807-1861), widow of my GGU, James L. DANIEL (1814-1857) in Louisville, Jefferson County, GA. This John PERRY was identified on the 1860 census (and her 1861 will) as her brother. Also, notice the James L. DANIEL name used in both of these DANIEL families. I do not know what the L. in my James's name stood for but Lewis is a possibility. My GGF's name was listed in his wife's 1912 obit as Robert Williams DANIEL which seems to match this DANIEL family, too. From what I can tell about this bunch, my bunch also matches the profile of this DANIEL family to some degree. I also have the name Chesley DANIEL in my bunch and we know that Chesley DANIEL, Esq. (1786-1828), son of George and Martha Julia DANIEL of Granville County, NC, married Eliza Pratt WEIGHTMAN at Judge POTTERS home in Raleigh, Wake County, NC in 1811. A link, I do not know and I do not know whether these two families are related or not but my GGM was a POTTER and my grandmother, a DANIEL..... John R. 3. Mike, If so, then he was John Wilhite Lewis DANIEL b: 18 AUG 1831 in GA Marriage: Isabella GREEN on 1 AUG 1860 in Barbour County, AL, Capt. DANIEL was the son of John Williams Lewis DANIEL (ABt 1794-1870) and Sarah Ann GRAHAM, the marriage you listed. Do not forget, John's brother, was James Lewis DANIEL (1800-1879) who married Matilda Ann GANT and they all seem to have moved to the Eufaula, Barbour County, AL area. That M. DANIEL who married John and Sarah must have been his uncle, Martin DANIEL. This is the first time I have seen a mention of their living in SC. I got the idea they went straight from Granville County, NC to GA and then to AL. However, it seems not.... John R.
