    1. Re: [DANIEL-L] Albert Daniel- Henry Co., GA
    2. Ken, Thank you so much for your help. The James H. son of Albert is the line I am looking for and no one seems to know much about it. I only found two children born, John Edward and Martha. James married Julia Jackson but I can not find them past 1870. Martha was not married in 1880, John Edward Daniel married Sarah Lane. My cousin in Alabama sent me a good bit of information on John and Sarah's family also John and his second wife children also. Again thanks so much. Cheryl

    1. Re: [DANIEL-L] Jeremiah, Basil, Barton, Martin and Robert Daniel. Kentucky Militia of 1812 , Illinois census
    2. Diane Clark
    3. Yes, I have seen them on the census for Illinois. I think that Jerimiah and Delila both had children named Barton. I think but cannot prove that these belong to Jeremiah. How they are related is a mystery. Pioneers Of Davidson County, Tennessee, Members of the Davidson County Militia, 1812, Page 31 on Genealogy.com lists Jeremiah, Basdel, and Barton in Captain McCormack's Militia Company. Davidson Co. lies next to Montgomery Co., in TN. Delila appears in name only, that is to say no information, on the 1820 Census of Montgomery Co., Tn. She appears on the Illinois Census of 1820 with information. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jdacres@imbris.com> To: <DANIEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2004 3:29 PM Subject: Re: [DANIEL-L] Jeremiah, Basil, Barton, Martin and Robert Daniel. 2. Vickie Lomon
    3. I do not have info on Jeremiah Daniel (or Daniels) but notice that in Captain McCormack's Militia company of the Kentucky 1812 militia (found on genealogy.com history subscription, it mentions Jeremiah Daniel, Basdel Daniel, and Barton Daniel (all in a row in an non-alphabetized list). In 1818 census of Washington Co., Illinois, heads of families (again, consecutively ) include Jeremiah Daniel, Barton Daniel, Martin Daniel and Robert Daniel. In 1820 census of Bond Co. Illinois, it includes in a row in a non-alphabetized list Martin Daniel, Barton Daniel, Jeremiah Daniel, William Daniel and Delila Daniel. There is also a Robert Daniel on the same page. This puts a hint as to the family did stick together migrating from North Carolina.

    2. Cheryl, As discussed, here is info from First Families of Henry Co., Ga., ed. Joseph Henry Hightower Moore, 1993, pub. W. H. Wolfe Associates, Alpharetta, Ga. pp. 197-199 "Albert and Terresia Daniel" by Clara Wallace Nail Albert Daniel b. Aug. 27, 1808 GA, d. Sep. 22, 1895 (son of James Daniel b. 1766 NC d. 1853 Henry Co. and Grezil (Grilly) Clements Daniel b. 1773 NC); m. Terresia Stewart b. May 16, 1812 SC d. Jan. 10, 1891 Henry Co., GA. Beria Christian Ch., Hampton, GA. I haven't researched this family, just extracted the info from the above source. Clara Wallace Nail does cite some sources and the info seems fairly compatible with what you have, but, as with any secondary source, all info should be verified from primary sources. Since the article was published 11 years ago, you might be able to contact the contributor for additional documentation. The above book contains two other Daniel articles: p. 199 "Daniel" by J. Luther Murphey covers the family of James Daniel b. 16 May 1808 GA, d. 20 July 1861; m. 30 Dec 1830, Jasper Co., GA to Jane Jones b. 2 Feb 1811, d. 28 Mar 1885 pp. 195 -196 "Danyers, Daniell, Daniel" by Mary Rowan Daniell. This article gives the ancestry of Albert Daniel as being of the Middlesex line, but the only source given is Lewis Dunn. Some of the info on the family of James Daniel b. 1765 NC conflicts with the info Mike Daniel provided in the abstract of his will, and, as always, primary documentation trumps undocumented secondary sources every time so I would definitely go with the will. 3. Thank you, Ruth. The Matheny's and Ellis' are both tied to this family. William (b:abt 1783 NC) mother was Delilah. She had 2 sons that I know of as they are named in her will - William & Barton. She had another son who apparently proceeded her in death as his son is named (Alfred). William had 5 sons, William, Ewing, Barton, Henry, and Robert M. and 4 daughters. I believe that Delilah may have been married to Jeremiah's brother (whoever he is) as Jeremiah and family is always close by in the Illinois census. Jeremiah was in Davidson Co., TN in the early 1800's. I believe that 2 of his sons were named Bazil and Jeremiah. Any information is appreciated. 3. Would like to hear if any of you have heard the name "Otway"? Horace Buckner named a son Otway - as it is possible with Benjamin Daniel whose son was written as Osway yet perhaps was Otway. This name is so unusual I feel it may be clue to my Daniel line which is William and Verlinda Daniel of Hopkinsville, KY. First son, Richard, went to Gibson, IN, practiced law, married Ann Chew Johnston, (dau of General William Johnston) from whom my family is descended. Yet one more Daniel grasping at straws. 3. Your two wills are those of Richard DANIEL (d. abt. 1783 Halifax, VA) and his son, James DANIEL (d. 1781 - before his father). What I have collected on these two men and their wifes is shown following: FIRST GENERATION 1. Richard DANIEL was born about 1718 in Henrico County, VA. He resided between 1756 and 1765 in Cumberland County, VA. He resided between 1770 and 1782 in Halifax County, VA. He signed a will on April 13, 1782 in Halifax County, VA. He died about 1783 in Halifax County, VA. He had an estate probated on February 20, 1783 in Halifax County, VA. He was married to Agnes BATES about 1750. Richard DANIEL and Agnes BATES had the following children: +2 i. James DANIEL (born between 1758 and 1764). SECOND GENERATION 2. James DANIEL (Richard-1) was born between 1758 and 1764 in Cumberland County, VA. He signed a will on May 22, 1781 in Halifax County, VA. He died after May 22, 1781 in Halifax County, VA. He had an estate probated on November 15, 1781 in Halifax County, VA. He was married to Anna ECHOLS (daughter of Richard ECHOLS and Catherine (Caty) EVANS) about 1771 in Pittsylvania County, VA. Anna ECHOLS was born about 1753 in Virginia. She resided in 1796 in Caswell County, NC. She resided between 1802 and 1806 in Wilkes County, GA. She signed a will on August 20, 1806 in Wilkes County, GA. She died after August 20, 1806 in Wilkes County, GA. She had an estate probated on November 3, 1806 in Wilkes County, GA. ============================================================================================ Researching BELL, COLLIER, DANIEL, ECKLES, ENGLISH, FOSTER, HAWTHORNE, HOOKS, LEACH, LEWIS, McALLISTER, McCLUNG, SHIVER, SPURLOCK, STEWART, TURNER, WESLEY, WHEELER, WILLIAMS and YORK. ============================================================================================

    3. Thanks, This was good information. I have also seen a Clement McDANIEL or MacDonald up in that area of the woods and he later migrated to VA and I think dropped the MC part of his name. I am interested in any DANIEL related name from NJ/MD in the ABT 1750 time frame because I have too many collateral links in that area in the 1800 time frame. I think some of the New England DANIELS migrated south, like a lot of other folks, and they have become commingled with the DANIELS of VA. They may be actually related to some of them and just moved south, later. That, I do not know. That DANIELS and GREENWAY up in the Boston area really interests me because I have a William GREENWAY three houses from Robert C. DANIEL (ABt 1765-AFT 1830) of Burke County, GA in 1820. We all know a lot of New England folks ended up in VA, NC, SC and GA in the BEF and AFT 1800 time frame. I know a lot of DANIEL researchers want to jump right into the VA Daniel families but there are all too many folks who migrated from New England to MD/NJ and then on south into VA or NC by the 1750 time frame and then, later, to SC and GA in the post RW time frame, for us to just overlook them. However, most are right, the name DANIEL has early and strong VA connections but they are not the only DANIEL family around. As for the O'DANIEL name, one does not always know whether they were O'DANIELS, MacDONALDS, McDONALDS or DANIELS because civil servants often did not distinguish spellings of these various names and often transcribed DANIEL as either, DANIEL, DONNEL, McDANIEL, O'DANIEL, DANIELL, etc. John R. 2. John, I have no idea regarding these families... merely ran across them in my ongoing search for my families... to find some answers. The Hopkins DANIEL caught my eye due to my SHERWOOD + HOPKINS connection in Maryland ~ Elizabeth TEMBTE's mother was their daughter.... and I see the Maryland Wills Books hold a few DANIEL names from: In the Maryland Calendar of Wills 1635 to 1685 in the index are mentioned DANIELL... Constantine, Elizabeth, Isaac, Love, Thomas ~ also, O'DANIEL as Love, Marion, Morris, and Daniell O'DANIELL Maryland Wills of 1685 to 1702 ~ DANIELs mentioned in the index... William, Thomas, Jane, Margaret, Miles, Richard and Elizabeth or Eliza. No O'DANIEL(L) ~ Daniel MacDANELL 1703 to 1713, only Thomas DANIELL and No O'DANIEL(L) ~ a Brian MackDANIEL shows up. 1713 to 1720, Francis, Mitchel, and William DANIEL, plus Thomas MackDANIEL, and no O's. Books past 1720, I don't have.

    3. Hi, This does not make sense. How could his daughter be an Anny DANIEL and she the heir of his other daughter, Tabitha and her brother, Royal DANIEL. It does not make sense to me. I assume he had three daughters, Ketura, Ann and Tabitha and one son, Royal, based upon what I am seeing in this will. However, who was the son-in-law, James DANIEL, also mentioned in the will? This tells me that one of his daughters married a James DANIEL. Who was he? Was he Anny's husband? If so, that really interests me, especially if STANFORD was SANFORD..... Excerpts from Hopkins's will: <<< [To my daughter Keturah Stanford I give five dollars: The remainder of my effects to be equally divided with my daughter Anny Daniel, the heirs of my daughter Tabitha Gordy and my son Royal Daniel >>> <<< Likewise I make, constitute, and appoint my son in law James Daniel guardian for the heirs of my daughter Tabitha, also to be executor of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. >>> John R.
