    3. Vickie, I am going to tell you what this looks like to me -- the wanderings of the PONDERS, PATTERSONS, BENNETTS and BLACKS. Their researchers may not have it exactly right but they say they started out in the Baltimore, MD area and migrated through Augusta County, VA to York County, SC. Several of the PONDER boys migrated to Wilkes County, GA but one, Daniel, Jr. (the Tory) migrated to Buncombe County, NC. John R. 3. I can't help but think there is a connection here, also I searched the genforum and ran across this information regarding Jeremiah Daniel and old Delilah Daniel. Does anyone know about her and her husband. Also included is the Daniel families on the Old Pendilton district, 1800 census. Vic D542 DANELSON William M-032 050 41 42010-11010-00 No Twp. Listed D510 DANUBE Jeremiah* M-032 050 32 23001-01010-00 No Twp. Listed , the Delilah Daniel I refer to is old Delilah Daniel, the matriarch of nearly all the Daniels who lived in Fayette/Bond/Shelby Counties, Illinois by 1820...born ca 1750; in later years there was another family of Daniel (they are easy to separate) that moved to Fayette from up north. We find Delilah first in Burke Co., NC 1790 census with children. I have not found her in NC 1800 census; however I have been told that she shows on the NC 1810 census...I think they say the county was Mecklenburg or Rutherford...I have not seen it. Some say she was married to Jerimiah Daniel who appears on the SC census..? I forgot which year... and which county. As far as I can tell she never shows on records with a husband as head-of-household.(Perhaps she was Cherokee..the Cherokee wives then were considered the head of a family). Never-the-less, she is the mother, grandmother, etc. to the Daniel clan in Illinois in counties I stated at the first. Your Delilah(they say) was the daughter of Delilah Daniel's son, William (which I question). She married first to Hopkins, had children, widowed, then she married Martin Daniel,SR who was born in North Carolina about 1791..age 59 on the 1850 Fayette census...look at the original on microfilm.. This elder Martin Daniel is my line through his son, Martin Daniel, Jr. who md first to Sarah Harris..(my line)...then he married his cousin, Mary Ann Smith, age 15, in 1855 (dau of Christina & George Smith). My line moved south into Arkansas in the 1870's, then ended up in Dallas, Texas in the 1880's-1890's. Just recently I have found another William Daniel we will need to fit into this much intermarried family? At present it will appear (I think there is a mistake made as to who the children, grandchildren, etc. of the original Delilah Daniel were) that your Martin Daniel,Sr who married Delilah Daniel Hopkins, was his brother William's daughter. It did not help any that they named all the kids the same names. Please e-mail me privately if you wish...this is a long standing problem with researchers of this clan of Daniels who came to that part of Illinois before 1820. Some have given up it appears. Please let me know what you find new. We think our ear-holes come from the Daniel family. The earliest Daniel we have is Delilah Daniel. We do not have a maiden name from her..or a husband. He may have been Jeremiah Daniel She was born about 1750. Delilah lived in Burke Co.,NC 1790's; moved south to Pendleton Dist, SC 1800; was in what is now Fayette Co., Illinois by 1819. The Daniel DNA has a match for Delilah's son and the Daniel family in Henry Co., Virginia. So, they probably were in Virginia before moving to NC.

    1. Re: [DANIEL-L] DANIEL Related Names in Pittsylvania County, VA 1767
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Vickie, I have several George DANIELS of that time frame. Since we have been bouncing around the DANIELLS, I will list that George, first. (1) Stephen Bedon DANIELL, the father of John who married Hannah GRANGE, had a brother, George DANIELL (1744-BEF 1784) who supposedly married Elizabeth HOWE. I have it that he died in Bladen County, NC but I learned a long time ago, never to trust anything this DANIELL family says about anything, unless the evidence is over, overwhelming. However, the Masters HANKINS on this probate information for George seems to indicate this may have been him since his niece, Amelia DANIEL, d/o Stephen Bedon DANIEL, married Masters HANKINS Regardless, this DANIELL family is the most cobbled up family we have in the DANIELL family and they have not one bit of DNA evidence to back up any of their claims. George's notes are listed below. However, I cannot see this George DANIELL living in Brunswick County, NC in 1770, based on the court record below, and living in Pittsylvania County, VA in 1767. Contrary to the information you have on John and Hannah Grange DANIEL, I have never seen any link with this bunch to VA. (2) George DANIEL born 1731 in Middlesex County, VA.He was the son of Henry DANIEL and Mary JOHNSON of Middlesex County, VA. He married a Frances DANIEL, d/o William DANIEL, Sr. and Anne WATTS of Middlesex County, VA and I have no other information on him or her. (3) George DANIEL born 1727, died 1758 in Middlesex but he would have been dead by 1767 so he would not have been on this Pittsylvania County, VA tax list. However, he did have a son, named Nelson, and NELSON is one name I have seen in the Pittsylvania County, VA area. These are the only George's I carry that meet this time frame. I am sure there were possibly other DANIELS named George of this time frame but I just do not carry them. I think what may be a greater possibility is that you bunch may have been tied to one of those McDANIELS floating around Pittsylvania County, VA and Augusta County, VA is loaded with McDANIELS and McDONALDS and folks moved west and not north in that time frame. Also, if your bunch moved to the Ohio Territory area since this was a big repository for former Quakers, who after 1800 fled the south in droves due to the slavery question. I do not think there is any evidence this DANIELL bunch in Charleston were Quakers. They seem to have been real big in northern VA and PA, as well as back in Henrico, although there were some in SC and even GA at one point but "they got out of Dodge" rather quickly after 1800. <<<< Notes for George DANIELL: Chatham County, NC DEED BOOK B - 1775-1783 pg. 280, May 10, 1784 STEPHEN DANIELL, Admin., MARY DANNIELL Adminstx. of the Estate of GEORGE DANIEL, dec'd both in the County of Bladen Co., NC to WILLIAM DANIELL of Chatham Co., NC, for $300, 320 acres on Indian Creek and the waters of Deep River, joining WILLIAM BARBER. 1. Re: [DANIEL-L] John Daniel who married Hannah Grange and thier children, Does anyone reconize the names?

    3. Vickie, It is just hard for me to imagine one of these DANIELL boys from Brunswick County, NC moving to VA but I guess anything is possible. However, that is not a normal migration pattern. However, the BIDDLE name you listed did catch my attention. Mary "Polly" BIDDLE born ABT 1770 married Harrison WATTS and then, Col. Rene FITZPATRICK of Goochland County, VA. Rene also married a Mildred MAHONE and my note on Rene is that he died in Karnack, Texas. The FITZPATRICKS were of Goochland and some of them migrate to Greene and Morgan County, GA, Col. Rene FITZPATRICK b. ABT 1785 was a son of Joseph FITZPATRICK, Jr, who was a brother of Capt. Benjamin FITZPATRICK (1745-1821) who moved to Greene and his descendants, later to Morgan. I generally do not associate this family with any DANIEL family, except the ones that would be around the WOODSONS and surely not the DANIELL family of Charleston. I do not have the will of Stephen Bedon DANIELL of Brunswick County, NC. He is one of the few question marks I have about this bunch. Since Stephen was the son of John DANIELL and Sarah RAVEN of Brunswick County, NC one would expect him to have a son named, John, such were the naming patterns of the day. Do you have any wills, deeds, or other primary source records substantiating that this Hannah was the Hannah GRANGE who married John DANIEL in Brunswick County, NC or did some earlier researcher just match up the name, John and Hannah, and match it to the marriage of the first John and Hannah they could find that reasonably matched the time frame of their marriage? This, has happened all too many times. I will look to see if I can find the will of Stephen Bedon DANIEL and see what I can find. We know that Stephen Bedon DANIELL is named in his father's will by his full name, so we know who this fellow was. Was there also not a Basil DANIEL who came out of SC at some point? Is that the same Basil DANIEL that is related to your bunch? John R. 1. Re: [DANIEL-L] John Daniel and Hanna Grange Daniel, family letters according to John Greenlee
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Vickie, I saw a lot of Augusta County, VA surnames in that 1767 Tax list. I saw a lot of later Greene and Wilkes County, GA area surnames, including, specifically, the Stephen HEARD, Jr. bunch that ended up in Elbert County, GA I also saw lots of CUNNINGHAMS, BENNETTS, PATTERSONS and others that also end up in that area of GA in a later time frame. Some of the stuff that was online for Pittsylvania County, VA brings up one of my pet peeves - well meaning researchers that alphabetize census, tax, burial or other civil records thinking their efforts are beneficial to other researchers. However, they are not, because most researchers are looking for a blend of names (or specific names) grouped together in these records and alphabetizing these records does not show them that relationship. So, if you ever transcribe any of these records, please put them online exactly as they are written or exactly as you audit the graves in a specific cemetery, trying to keep the graves of individual families together, if possible. Some of these records were alphabetized by the original maker and we cannot do anything about that but those that are not, transcribe them exactly as they are listed. Thanks..... John R. 1. DANIEL Related Names in Pittsylvania County, VA 1767
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Good Morning, I went back and looked at the records that are online for Pittsylvania County, VA. These records were in the period prior to the time frame Vickie stated her Henry DANIEL was located there, since Henry County, VA was formed from Pittsylvania County, VA. The following are the DANIEL related names from that 1767 Tax List for Pittsylvania County, GA. This list includes many of the names she listed in her records, including DALTON, CHANDLER, LEWIS, LACY, etc. The census taken by Hugh INNES also seems to be a real hot spot for Greene and Morgan County, GA folks, including the HEARDS, WADES, CALLOWAYS, COCHRAN, CLEMENTS, etc. I also wonder if that Frederick O'DANIEL is the one we later see in NC or the Frederick DANIEL we later see in Pike County, GA in a later time frame. One can view the whole list at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapittsy/tith.htm <<< A List of Tithes, Etc, Taken by John Donelson 1767 John Donelson, Thomas Henry, Negroes Peter, Caneer, Tobe, Hannah & Sall A List of Tithables Taken by Robert Chandler for 1767 Geo. 3. Ok, to answer you question about Basil Daniel, yes he is the same Basil Daniel you refer to. As far as we know, Basil Daniel was in the Pendilton District, 1800, along with a Jeremiah Daniel and others, I will have to go back to my records and look at them. Basil Daniel was living as an ex-resident on Buncombe county, NC 1805, then he migrated to Davidson county, TN. He was also part of Captain McCormick's Militia, he left TN. to migrate to Shelby county, Illinois and then he migrated to Carroll county, ARk. where he died about 1843 from what I can figure. Pertaining to Hannah Grainge and John Daniel, this is not my direct line, I believe Dottie's line, and she have done very extensive research on this whole Daniel bunch. And I do think she correct with all the Data she has and based upon the Greenlee connections, I don't think she wrong? But anything is possible> I will email her and ask her for her thoughts. You mentioned Captain Allen Daniel, Prince George county, VA. I would like to know more about this man and his family? I do think we come from the Prince George Daniel bunch, as Payne has them listed as the Immigrant Daniel line on his homepage. You could be correct as to his line possibly matching our DNA. It would be fascinating to find a descendant of this line to be tested. Vic "John R. Clarke" <jclarke@rose.net> wrote: Vickie, It is just hard for me to imagine one of these DANIELL boys from Brunswick County, NC moving to VA but I guess anything is possible. John R. 3. I would be interested in the George Daniel, also John there was a Francis Daniel who shows up on the early Grainger county, Tax list along with our Edward, also Edward , Francies and a fellow by the last name of Barton were messengers of a Church in Clairborne county, If I remember correctly, Does France and George Daniel ring any bells with you? This list includes many of the names she listed in her records, including DALTON, CHANDLER, LEWIS, LACY, etc. The census taken by Hugh INNES also seems to be a real hot spot for Greene and Morgan County, GA folks, including the HEARDS, WADES, CALLOWAYS, COCHRAN, CLEMENTS, etc. I also wonder if that Frederick O'DANIEL is the one we later see in NC or the Frederick DANIEL we later see in Pike County, GA in a later time frame. 1. John Daniel who married Hannah Grange and thier children, Does anyone reconize the names?
    2. Vickie Lomon
    3. John Daniel married to Hannah Grange in Brunswick Co., NC. John died before 1880. In 1880 census Hannah lived with Elizabeth born 1822. I have Joseph Daniel married to Levisa Greenlee 1838 Grainger Co., (daughter of John and Elizabeth Greenlee) died in 8/29/1897 in Larel Bridge, Ky. Joseph died in Pineville, Ky. I have this Joseph, son of John and Hannah. My Joseph (Betty's line) (Edward's son) married Rebecca Hodges. Also children of John and Hannah: Susannah born 1819 married Levi Biddle in 7/9/1853) Elizabeth born 1823 William born 1825 married Mary J. Cameron on 9/30/1852 Their children: Issac 1854 Sarah A. 1855 Elisa 1853 Hannahg 1859 John 1861 William 1865 this information collaborates the info in the Greenlee letter where it says Hannah and Elizabeth were living together on James Sunderland's place. That Hannah must have been the Mother Hannah. We originally thought it may have been a sister of Elizabeth.

    3. Thank John, I will certainly look into it, a George Daniel does show up later in some records, but also some of the children of Nehemiah Daniel show up in Pittsylvania county, VA. Nehemiah Daniel , I think is related to our Daniel line in someway or another, This Henry county bunch of Daniels are elusive, no one can get past Basil of Edward Daniel. Perhaps someone would come forward on the Allen Daniel line and have their DNA tested to see if we connect. We can only hope, Vic "John R. Clarke" <jclarke@rose.net> wrote:Vickie, I was incorrect. Parts of this line end up in Greene County, GA and as I remember,. so does that Eustis DANIEL, is that not correct? The reason I carry this bunch is a lot of them end up in Morgan County, Ga and anyone that ends up in Morgan County, GA I am always interested in. There is an interesting link in the WADE family to a DANIEL. Mary ALLEN, wife of Capt. Allen DANIEL, Sr. of Madison County, GA, was the d/o Joseph ALLEN and Sarah HUNT of Charlotte County, VA. Since Allen DANIEL migrated to the same general area as the WADES then your DNA may well be the same as his. We do not have any DNA from the Allen DANIEL clan. I also noticed two other names in your list - DALTON and LIGION, even though Ligion was used in your bunch a given name and not a surname. This also seems to point back into the Woodson-Daniel bunch from around Goochland, a location I have always thought Allen DANIEL's bunch probably came from, via of the ALLEN line that is tied to this bunch. What we need is DNA from one of those Watkins-Daniels lines out of Goochland as well as some from the Allen DANIEL line out of Madison County, GA to compare your DNA against. I would not be surprised in the least is you get a match with one or both of these. Did you not mention a CHANDLER in a previous post? Thomas BANKS (1709-1789) married an Elizabeth CHANDLER. 1. Daniels, Charleston, SC 1700-1800
    2. In the 1600's and 1700's there were many members of my family living in the Charleston, South Carolina area. Several owned large plantations and would have to be considered very wealthy and prominant members of the Charleston social circles. The first member I will discuss is Jonathan LAWRENCE, born, 1748 and died Oct 18, 1782 and is buried in St. Thomas Church, Cain Hoy, SC. He was the son of Thomas Lawrence of New York and Elizabeth Helener Leggett also of New York. Jonathan Lawrence married Sarah DANIEL, born May 4, 1760 and died March 9, 1842 also buried in Cain Hoy next to her husband. She was the daughter of Robert DANIEL (VI) 1724-1789 and Elizabeth RUSS 1734-1798. She was also the great great grandaughter of Governor/Landgrave Robert DANIEL 1646-1718. This union had two children as follows; 1. Elizabeth Helen Lawrence was born July 24, 1781 in Charleston, SC. She married a Samuel PARKER, Jan.1, 1776 - May 8, 1830, I assume in Charleston, SC. The 1810 census has them in Charleston City and living next door is Sarah Lawrence, widow. At the time of his death in 1830 they owned a home at number 6 Geroge Street in Charleston. This was willed to Sarah from her father Robt. Daniel and instructions were given by him to build a house on the lot after his death. They had 8 children as follows; 1.Elizabeth Martha L. Parker, md. William MILLER 2. George Gilbert Lawrence Parker, 3. Susan Mary Parker. md. Charles D. FRIERSON. (Texas) 4. Robert Daniel Parker, md. Rachel Ann BOCHETT 5. Peter G. Parker, md. Maria Louisa BRAILSFORD 6. Elizabeth Rachel Parker, md. Joseph Alma PELOT (Georgia) 7. Sarah Lawrence Parker, md. Henry C. MARCELL 8. Samuel Daniel Parker, 1812 -1858 2. Second child of Jonathan Lawrence and Sarah Daniel was Robert Daniel Lawrence, b. Feb 17, 1779. He married Eliza Maria HALL, b. 1777- ?, dau of Daniel and Susan Mathews Hall, in 1799 in Charleston and had many children. My intrest is in Sarah Lawrence Parker, seventh child of Samuel Parker and Elizabeth Lawrence. She was born about 1810 in Charleston, SC according to census records later in her life. A deed in 1871 for the property at # 6 George St. has her living in Ohio and named Sarah Parker MARCELL. Sarah married a Henry C. MARCELL who was born around 1805 in Maryland according to census data. At some point he moved to Charleston, SC and married Sarah Parker about 1832 or before. I assume this marriage was in Charleston but no proof has been found. Their first child, Emma Lawrence Marcell was born about 1833 in Charleston. Second child, Alma P. Marcell was born July 5, 1835 also in Charleston. Third child, Edward North Marcell was born May, 1837 in Charleston. Fourth was Sarah Daniel Marcell, born, Nov. 23, 1839 in Georgia so the family had left the area by then.Ella Sue Marcell ws the last child and her birth place is unknown. My intrerest is in Edward North Marcell, named after a Doctor Edward NORTH from Charelston whom I assume was a close family friend. Edward ended up in Texas where he was buried in Olney on Sept 30, 1917. My brick wall is trying to find any piece of documentation linking Henry C.Marcell to Charleston, his marriage to Sarah Parker or baptism info on any of his children born in Charleston. The only refrence I find to any Marcell's in Charleston is in the "Implied South Carolina Marriages, Vol V, 1749-1853, pg. 445-452" A Jacques Albert MARCEL married to Fleury Cazeneuve in 1809 and also a Paul Samuel MARCELL married to Suzanne Albertine Jacquline PAYEN also 1809. The marriage contract was issued on May 9, 1805 in Paris France before they left for america in 1805 and landing in Maryland. They then removed to Kentucky and South Carolina. If anyone in Charleston can help link my Marcell line to the above families in Charleston I am offering a reward. Any proof of a birth, baptism or published announcement is worth $100.00. Any marriage certificate or church record for any Marcell in Charleston is also worth $100.00. If anyone can find a link from Henry C. Marcell to Paul Samuel Marcell or Jacques Albert MARCELL I will pay $250.00. I know this sounds desperate but after 5 years and many miles I am willing to offer money for assisatnce with this line. Thank you for reading and any assistance you might offer. I am at the end of my rope as they say. Contact me with any more needed info or if related I can bring all of this family to current date.

Hi, I am not really following the line of Edward Daniel but I have ran into an Edward Daniel on the 1830 then Warren County Tn. Census. My asking of questions regard my John Daniel b 1769 Va d 1853 in present Cannon County Tn. used three Daniel men as chain carriers on land that he purchased in the 1820s and/or 1830s in then Warren County Tn. in the area of Short Mountain which became present Cannon County. The names were Peter, Stephen, & William with my belief that the Peter is a son of John b 1811 Tn.. I know that the Edward Daniel had a large family living with him in 1830 but I have no idea of the given names of children. My John Daniel in the 1820 then Warren County Census showed 3 male and 3 female children in his household but only the name Peter has shown up todate. Do you possibly have any information regarding the children of this Edward Daniel that I have indicated. From memory, he was several years older than my John Daniel. My main interest is to eliminate the possibility of these names as being children of my John or maybe prove that they could be. Any information that you might have, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. B. Wilkinson belva@mon-cre.net
