I found this and it may be of interest to some. IT it from Keith Midgette <[email protected]> <<<< Stockley's son John TOWLES, born in Middlesex Co on 5 Apr 1712, m. Margaret DANIEL and moved to Orange Co., VA (now part of Madison Co.) with his father in 1737. Stokeley died in Orange Co. John and Margaret TOWLES may have migrated to Ninety Six (now Edgefield Co) District, SC in 1766 with his sons Oliver TOWLES (b. Middlesex Co., 1 Sep 1736)and his wife Jane GOGGANS and Stokeley TOWLES (b. Middlesex Co. abt 1743) and his wife martha GILLEY and possibly uncle or cousin Joseph TOWLES (b. abt 1730 Middlesex Co.) John, Oliver, Joseph and Stokeley TOWLES served in the SC militia during the Revolution (John and Oliver served in the 3rd SC Regiment of Horse "Thomson's Rangers", Joseph also served in that unit as well, but no muster record shows Stokeley's name to prove his service)- John was hung, and Oliver was captured, shot and killed by the Tory band let by "Bloody Bill" Cunningham in November 1781, and Stokeley was killed by Ned Turner, one of Cunningham's men soon afterwards. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GNR.2ACIB/1818.1.1.2.1.2 Message Board Post: o.k. I am looking for a mystery Daniel who died between 1845-and when the census was taken in 1850 for the Gordon county area of GA. His widow is Eliza Daniel and the youngest child that we are aware of was Amanda Daniel and she was 4 on the 1850 census. After she was widowed she and the rest of the family moved to Broomtown, AL in Cherokee county, AL just over the Ga line. Her son in law Elijah Littleton Perkins and his wife Mary Daniel Perkins, also her son William Thomas Daniel and his wife Elizabeth Stovall. One daughter, Molissa we can't find after 1850. Then of course Amanda went to AL too. When the Civil War started William Thomas Daniel joined up in Ga and later died shortly after Vicksburg fell and died on the way home from Mississippi. His widow, Elizabeth Stovall Daniel moved back to Ga to live with her mother and raise their 3 children. Eliza Daniel ( the mother) is on the mortality schedule of 1880 in Alababama. Any ideas on this crew? We have often thought tha! t there might be a SC connection because the Stovall family came out of there to GA and I know some of the other Daniel lines did the same. We suspect that these two families might have a longer history together than we are aware of . Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Doyle and John, No, Ezekiel DANIEL, Sr., 1788-1858 (SC>GA>MS) was NOT related to the IOW DANIEL family that included John DANIEL (b 1630), his sons Thomas and William and their descendants, including John of Northampton County, NC and his sons John, Abraham, Isaac and Ephraim of Dobbs/Wayne County, NC and son Ezekiel, Sr., of Washington County, GA; Joseph DANIEL of Washington County, GA; Joseph DANIEL of Liberty County, GA; and Miss Lucy's group, William, Thomas, Josiah and Stephen. The Y-DNA test results prove that descendants of the two lines do NOT match. In addition to there being NO viable match at any number of markers, the IOW DANIEL line is in the "I" Haplogroup and Ezekiel, Sr., 1788-1858 (SC>GA>MS) is in the "R1b1" haplogroup. However, the descendant of Ezekiel, Sr., 1788-1858 (SC>GA>MS) IS a 23/25-marker match with the descendant of Henning DANIEL, both in the "R1b1" haplogroup. Admittedly that is not a perfect match, but it is a viable match at 25 markers and close enough to warrant both of those participants upgrading to 37 or more markers to determine if the relationship still holds. For the 37-marker upgrade, a 33/37 or better match would be considered a viable relationship. Doyle, Y-DNA results that strongly point to a possible family line are a much better indicator of relationships than family given names and naming patterns. Follow up on your strongest clue and dig deeper into the Henning DANIEL line, their locations, migration routes--if any, collateral families, Henning's ancestors and descendants, etc. Also keep in mind that it is possible that your Ezekiel, Sr., could have been an illegitimate son so never was included in any family records; or he might have been orphaned at a very early age and knew nothing about his family. Hope this helps. Diane Carrington Bradford Atlanta, GA -----Original Message----- From: John R. William Daniel b. ca. 1800 in Pendleton District, South Carolina is the son of Bazel/Bazil/ Baswell etc. He married 1st Patsy Morris January 24, 1818 in White County, Illinois. Their children were Nancy and E. J. (a female according to census records). Patsy died abt. 1836 in Arkansas. William then married Martha Rogers/Rodgers June 29, 1837 in Shelby County, Illinois. Their children were Elizabeth, Amon and Levi B. William and Patsy are listed on the 1830 Arkansas census. In 1840 he and Martha are listed on the Jackson, Conway County, Arkansas and they are then in All Townships, Van Zandt County, Texas in 1850. I have not been able to locate them on an 1860 census record. But their sons in 1860 Amon 20 and Levi 17 are living with the family of Abe (Abraham ?) and his wife Jemimah Dalton. Also 11 year old Sarah Dawthal (?) is also living in their home in Beat 3, Henderson County, Texas. In 1870 there is a William and Martha Daniel listed on records of those who had become poverty stricken after the Civil War but I have no way of knowing if this is the right William and Martha Daniel. I do know that William's sister, Sarah Daniel Fancher, was living in and around Henderson County, Texas between the 1850 and 1860 census periods. Sarah and her husband Grey Bynum Fancher are living in Hill County, Texas at the time of the 1860 census taking. Berlene Jacques

Yes, that particular CARRINGTON line was quite prolific, as well as being very prominent. However, it is not the CARRINGTON family from which we believe my 4th gr grandfather, Rev. We should know if that is the case by mid-May since my CARRINGTON first cousin's Y-DNA results should be released by then. Diane
John, thank you for the info on the Berkeleys, however I don't have a connection there that I know of. According to other documentation, Berkeley was a pretty fair Governor during his first tenure (prox 1640-50), and then he was called home. When he was again made Governor/Proprietor in ca. 1660, he was considered to be a staunch Loyalist, disbanded the Burgesses, and put his own people in. Thus, I believe, the Bacon rebellion. He was called home to England, and died before he could get an audience with the King. My interest in Nansemond (where the DANIEL planter was killed ca. 1644), was to impart to someone one on the List the knowledge that there was a DANIEL with property in Nansemond PRIOR to the Nansemond Joseph DANIEL of 1714 that they inquired about. If they don't feel that earlier documented Nansemond information is of any value to them -- then so be it. A complete list of the Burgesses - names and tenure, is on-line, and it clear when Berkeley made his moves, and when the pendulum swung back. (DIANE -- I am sure you know that a bunch of Carringtons ( from Charlotte, etc) were among the Burgesses for quite a number of years). TTYL, Anne

From my notes on the Berkley's. <<< From Edmund Berkeley the descent of the Virginia Berkeley's is fully supported by the family Bibles, the lately published register of Middlesex county, the register of Abingdon Parish, Gloucester, and the recorded wills in Middlesex county. Audrey, That is John Williams and Jane Rogers of Surry, County, VA. Her father, William ROGERS moved to Albemarle Precinct, North Carolina. Her mother was Elizabeth CARTWRIGHT. I think Robert ROGERS, whose will you sent me, was Jane's brother but have no proof of it. William and Elizabeth did have a son, Robert born ABT 1690 which matches up pretty good with this Robert ROGERS born 1695. I cannot say the are the same folks but it is real close, especially with Jane listed as a witness on his will. John R. Clarke 229-228-1961 2417 N. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GNR.2ACIB/1094.2 Message Board Post: They wouldn't be related to those Daniels in and around Gordon and Bartow counties would they? I am looking for a mystery man Mr. Daniel who died between 1845 and the census of 1850. He was married to Eliza Daniel and her maiden name is currently unknown. I am from the Dalton area so you can see we haven't moved that much from 1850.
All I have is Mary "Polly" Daniel, daughter of William and Elizabeth Watkins Daniel and married to a John Nelson with no Nelson data. My information says Mary married John NELSON BEF 1771. These are my notes on this bunch. As you can see they were from Charlotte County, VA and my notes say that John Nelson died in Maury Co TN. I think most folks show Mary to be the daughter of John Williams Daniel of Cumberland County, VA and his wife Elizabeth (Watkins) <<<< CHANCERY SUIT John Daniel, Judith Fuqua formerly Judith Daniel, Sarah Hancock formerly Sarah Daniel, John Nelson and Polly his wife, formerly Daniel. VS The Hon. William Daniel, Henry Coleman and wife Martha, Elliott Coleman and wife Elizabeth, William Tally and wife Frances, Polly Woodson, Josiah Thompson, William D. Miller is appointed Guardian for the infant defendant Ariana Miller. Recorded 6 May1823, Charlotte County Order Book 23, pg. 232. Note: Hezekiah Daniel was the son of William Daniel of Cumberland County and his wife Elizabeth (Watkins) Woodson, widow of Jacob Woodson. Issue(of William Daniel): William Daniel, Benjamin Daniel, Hezekiah Daniel, William Pride Daniel, John Daniel, Judith Daniel, Sarah Daniel, Mary Daniel, Elizabeth Daniel, and Rhoda Daniel.
