Harry, One of the Benjamin Daniels was son of Woodson Daniel of Wake Cty, NC and was a resident of Rowan Cty, NC before leaving for TN. He lived about one year in Rutherford Cty, TN and then settled in Stewart. His son Woodson (Wootson on census) is listed next to him on census. The younger Woodson died in Stewart in 1827 while Benjamin died there in 1847. David Daniel was born 1783 in Martin Cty, NC, son of William Daniel & Unknown and was grandson of Robert Daniel & Mary Swain. David's sister Elizabeth went to Stewart Cty also with her husband Luke Hardison. Hardison Daniel was likely a product of this marriage. David married Mary (Randle) Lightfoot Dawson. Mary married first Thomas Lightfoot, secondly David Dawson and then David Daniel. Not sure who thge other folks are. Mike Daniel
I'm sorry to report that I made no progress while in Raleigh, NC. I did establish that James K. Daniel was in Caswell Co., NC, 1805, but could not find a scrap of anything saying that he had a son named Josiah. I'll regroup and try writing to the public library in the county seat. We made some progress on my husband's family while in PA. Georgia

Back when I was active on the list, however, I said that I believed that at least some of the Liberty County, Georgia, Daniel bunch were descendants of John Daniel of IOW through John Daniel of Northampton County, NC. That has now been proven by DNA for descendants of Joseph Daniel of Liberty County. I will now extend that to say that I believe that Abraham Daniel of Liberty County and Ezekiel Daniel of Washington County, GA are also out of that line. I believe that this will also be borne out by DNA. Lucy, I believe that this also applies to nearly all of the Daniels in Jackson and Gadsden Counties before 1830 - and to most of those who were in Dale County, AL. I believe that most of the Daniels in Dale, Barbour, and Pike Counties, AL by 1840 were related. It will be interesting to see how the DNA shakes out. Jonas was in Washington County, Georgia for the 1820 census. He is in Jackson County, Florida by 1824 with 12 whites in his household and 35 slaves. He died by 1832 possibly out of state. Josiah Daniel, son of William 1760/70, and John Brett, Jr. were administrators of Jonas' estate. In 1834 Josiah requested guardianship of Moses Daniel who we think could have been a son of Jonas if he had any children. We find Moses in Dale County, Alabama in the 1830 census. Stephen born 1793 was from Washington County, Georgia and arrived in Jackson County, Florida by 1824. He went to Alabama for a short time and ended up in Washington County, Florida where he died. He was married to an Irwin. The DNA tests of the descendants of William's (1760/70) sons, Josiah and Williams, and Stephen matched that of John of Isle of Wight CO. Virginia. But their sons in 1860 Amon 20 and Levi 17 are living with the family of Abe (Abraham ?) and his wife Jemimah Dalton. Also 11 year old Sarah Dawthal (?) is also living in their home in Beat 3, Henderson County, Texas. In 1870 there is a William and Martha Daniel listed on records of those who had become poverty stricken after the Civil War but I have no way of knowing if this is the right William and Martha Daniel. [The Asa DALTON & Jemiman in 1860 that Amon (ca 1840 AR) & Levi (1842/1843 AR) are living with is their sister & husband. Sarah DAWTHET/DOUTHIT (ca 1849 TX) is daughter of Mary DANIEL (ca 1818 TN) & James DOUTHIT (1812 TN, 1852 TX). At this time I believe that Mary was a daughter of Nathan (1796 SC, 1864 IL) who was son of Bazel/Bazil/Baswell etc.] Hope this helps, Gladys
