    3. Hey, Carol!! Strange, indeed. Actually I was searching for a Daniel/Shelton connection way, way down in TX when I ran into my other maternal line (NC/GA Faulkner married an SC Hurst in MS), saw the early Mary Daniel. and inquired. Payne, of course, had everything under control, and answered this morning. Go to Daniel-L today and read his report, then go to the URL below and check out the Index, Mary Daniel, 64 Sheltons, and 24 Tuckers. Don't know why this researcher has Ralph, Jr's mother as a Pollard (not so, per Payne). Tried to reach her, but e-mail is no longer valid. Write me direct if you want, but I personally have no knowledge of these early Sheltons. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=:3021338&recn o=492 TTYL, Anne

    3. Mary Daniel the daughter of William Daniel Jr., and Mary Mosley, married Ralph Shelton Jr. on 10 June 1731 in Middlesex CO., Va. [Ralph Shelton, Jr., was born 23 Oct 1709 in Middlesex Co., VA. He died 1789 in Henry Co., VA. His wife Mary Daniel was baptized 07 March 1712/13to William Daniel and Mary Moseley. Click here to visit the DANIEL page. Ralph and Mary married 10 Jun 1731 in Middlesex Co., VA. In 1745, Ralph Shelton, Jr. owned 400 acres in Amelia Co., VA., the records spelled his surname SKELTON. Ken Shelton, who wrote The Shelton Trek Across Kentucky, The History of the Jeremiah Shelton Family of Kentucky and Missouri said that Ralph was mentioned in his mother's will in Amelia Co., VA., and he probably lived near her at this time. His parents were Ralph Shelton, Sr. and Mary Jane Crispin/Crisp of Middlesex Co., VA. By 1763, Ralph Shelton, Jr. had moved to Halifax Co., VA and he was in Henry Co., VA when it was formed in 1776/77. Ralph and his son Eliphaz are buried in the same cemetery. Ken wrote that Ralph listed 17 children in his will. There is also a belief that there was an Ebenezer Shelton who was Ralph's son. There is an Ebenezer on the 1800 Tax rolls of Kentucky, and he is in Butler Co., KY along with Jeremiah Shelton, but no other records were found for him.] Or did you give me this data? 2. Anne O'Brien
    3. (This Obit is verbatim from the Houston Chronicle, June 21, 2006, with picture).Byline - Zeke Minaya (See notations at the end by AOB). "GOV. BILL" DANIEL, BENEFACTOR William Partlow Daniel, a flashy showman, generous philanthropist and former governor of the United States Territory of Guam, died Tuesday at his home in Liberty. He was 90. Daniel -- Gov. Bill to his friends -- was a proud graduate of Baylor University, a fact made clear by all the buildings on the school's campus that bear his name. Daniel, part of one of the most politically prominent families in Texas history, served in the Texas House before being appointed to the governorship of Guam from 1961 to 1963. His brother, Price Daniel, Sr. was a governor of Texas, as well as a state Supreme Court justice and a U.S.Senator. Daniel and his wife, Vara, were recognized for their contributions to charity, including annual parties for disabled children. The couple established scholarship and academic programs at several universities and schools. Vara Daniel died in 1987. The playground at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center was dedicated in her honor. Daniel Forney, a friend and business partner, said Gov.Bill was larger than life. "He would walk up to you and strum up a conversation," Forney said. "In five minute you would be friends. He was ...... sincere about every single person he came in contact with". Daniel is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Liberty. [ Notations and corrections: My Mother, Ernestine Carey Faulkner (b. 1910,TX), and brothers, Price Daniel, Sr. (1910, TX) and Bill Daniel (b. 1916, TX) were first cousins, and were grandchildren of George Mayfield Daniel, b. 1848, GA, who came to TX in ca. 1868 with several brothers, who were all grandsons of our "elusive" Thomas Daniel, b.1786, GA. I would not have called "Bill" flashy, although he owned a trick horse that he rode at many charity events, especially at the events for disabled children, but which was gentle enough for the children to have their pictures taken on his back. While on Guam, Bill, a rancher and an agriculturist, worked in the fields with the native farmers, teaching soil repair and crop rotation, as well as animal husbandry, to help them recover from the devastation of the Japanese occupation. There is a Marker in his honor erected there by the citizens of Guam. The correction on Price Daniel is thus: an attorney, then a State Representative, Speaker of the Texas House, Texas Attorney General, U.S.Senator, Texas governor for three terms, then Supreme Court justice]. This appears to cover only National cemeteries, but it may help someone. ......................................................................... ..................................... The gravesite locator (<http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/>http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov), online since April 2004, helps veterans' families, former comrades-in-arms and others find the cemeteries where veterans are buried. With the new online feature, people enter a veteran's name to search, click on the "Buried At" (burial location) link and a map of the national cemetery is displayed, showing the section where the grave is located. ......................................................................... ................................... 1. RE: [DANIEL-L] Inquiry
    2. Diane Bradford
    3. Payne, The assumption among researchers of the Capt. Allen Daniel family is that this William Daniel and wf Nancy were related, but no one knows the exact relationship. He could have been a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, an in-law...most anything...we just don't know. So little is known about him, in fact, that I don't even carry him in my database at this time, although I will probably add him as an unlinked individual now that we have all these deeds from Pam. If we could ever connect Capt. Allen DANIEL's line to one of the VA DANIEL family lines, we might be able to make more sense of all of these folks. This William Daniel was no longer in Elbert or Madison counties by the time the 1820 census was taken, so I, personally, have never found him on a census report. Therefore, I have no way to even "guesstimate" his age bracket. All we can say for sure is that he was old enough to buy and sell property and enter into contracts by the late 1780s. There was a deed recorded in early Wilkes County, GA records dated 1788 (before Elbert County was created) in which William ALLEN purchased land on Beaverdam Creek from William DANIEL and wf Nancy, with [Capt.] Allen DANIEL as witness. These are all the same folks who later appeared in the Elbert County deeds that Pam listed. William ALLEN was also thought to be a kinsman, probably related to Capt. Allen DANIEL's wife, Mary ALLEN. I think the deeds that Pam listed, such as the one below, tend to support a family relationship of some degree since they were living in close proximity and were buying/selling land among themselves. All I can suggest at this point is that you carry this William DANIEL as an unlinked individual, but with a note regarding his possible relationship to both Capt. Allen DANIEL and to William ALLEN, along with events listing these deeds in which he appears. One possible scenario would be that this William DANIEL was a son of Capt. Allen DANIEL and Mary ALLEN, and a nephew of William ALLEN, for whom he was named, but I cannot prove that. What do you think? Comments anyone? Have you seen the Amanda WALKER, 55, in the home of George WALKER, 55, in 1880 in Crawford Co., GA., not far from Troup Co.? She is the only Amanda WALKER in GA in 1880, unless I missed the other. To agree with your given Amanda in 1910, she should be 50, but ages in the censuses aren't "perfect." There is one WALKER - DANIELL marriage in my files: Edward M. WALKER who m. circa 1857 Sarah Elizabeth DANIELL, d/o James Levi DANIELL and Elizabeth Clements BUTTS of Barbour Co., AL. Naturally, records of this family are also found as DANIEL. Edward and Sarah have a daughter, Kate C., age 1, named in the 1860 census of Covington County, Alabama. I'd like to know more about Edward and Sarah, have not yet found them in other records. Hope this helps you. Robert Daniell ==== DANIEL Mailing List ==== Going on Vacation for longer than 5 days? 3. Anne, I did not know your bunch was from Wayne County, GA. My 2nd GGF, the Hon. James E. Robinson, Jr. was the Judge in Wayne, later Charlton County, GA. He and my 3rd GGF. the Hon. John A. O'steen, Sr, also a Judge, represented Wayne and Ware in the State Legislature in the 1820's. John's son, John, Jr. was the Federal District Judge in Savannah. John R.
