This is a good one. A couple of us have differing views on Spilsby's origin. Still here and monitoring the list although not contributing much of late. My line goes back to Woodson Daniel of Wake Co., NC. DNA testing yielded only one 25 marker match with descendants of an Allen Daniel who lived in several TN counties and finally TX. We (myself and a descendant) have not been able to document our connection. There is also a match of one marker off that appears to show some promise but it has been difficult to find supporting data there. As many are aware I have not limited my research to my direct line and get a charge out of learning of the other Daniel lines and helping folks where I can. Mike Daniel
Hey Payne and all, As always, my line goes this way: Thomas DANIELS b. N. Ireland m. Susan CARAWAY Sons were: Clifford DANIELS b. N Ireland, (brothers John Cutrell, James, and Thomas), m. 1st Susan CARAWAY 1826 NC son of Clifford: Hiram DANIELS b. 1840 NC m. Nancy A BROTHERS b 1842 NC son of Hiram: James Richard DANIELS b. 1865 Pamlico Co NC, m. Getha BROWN NC. These are my grandparents. They had 11 children. Fortunately, Hiram was brother to Josephus DANIELS making this line easy to trace. My brother is also a Josephus Daniels He is 79 and a direct male DANIELS descendant. He is willing to do DNA testing, but at this time we are financially unable to do so. Carol Daniels Gaines, KY
My line as best as I have been able to find is as follows: Lenard Daniel b. abt 1872 d. aft 1880 William H. Daniel b. 1819 d. 1884 Washington County, Georgia Jesse Marvin Daniel b. 20 Mar 1855 d. 11 Aug 1937 Lommie Ester Daniel b. 27 Apr 1885 d. 31 May 1970 Soperton, Georgia Lommie was my Grandmother. She married : James Lemmie Keen b. 21 Sep. 1876 d. 17 Dec 1947 Any help with either of these lines will be appreciated. I descend ( ggf) from Robert Williams DANIEL, Esq. ( 1809-1865) of Jefferson County, GA and his 3rd wife, Mary Jane RENEAU ( 1830-1912), daughter of Rev. Russell RENEAU and Elizabeth STOCKTON of Jefferson County, TN, later of Newton County, GA and Crawford County, AR. Robert was born in Greene or Wayne County, NC, the don of Robert C. DANIEL ( abt 1765-aft 1830) and Penelope LANE ( 1773-1846). We have Penelope's age, DOB and DOD because her obit was published in the Southern Christian Advocate ( SC edition) in 1846. We also know via DNA testing to whom RWD descends - Capt. William DANIEL of Middlesex County, VA. (kit# 20707) and he was related to Josiah DANIEL and Chesley DANIEL of Granville County, NC. We just do not know who was the father of RCD. We are also not sure what the C. stood for. Some in the family have said, Chaney and some say Chesley. My best bet is Chesley. John R. Jeremial Daniel/Danube/Dannel who appears on the Georgetown district of SC 1790 census? He had 7 sons in his household and appears as Jeremia Dannel. By 1800 he had moved to Pendleton district SC with 2 more sons under 10 years old. He is listed as Jeremiah Danube, along with his neighbor/son, Bassel Danube. His other sons are living nearby listed as surname Daniel... [But are these father-son relationships corroborated?] Is anyone on the list familiar with the Daniel family that lived in Georgetown District? I have been told that some of this Daniel family intermarried and were living in Turkey town, NC. Or Turk? --------------------------------- Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Still here, although have not been very active lately. I am researching (and descended from) Benjamin Daniel and his wife, Margaret Brown, who were married in Caroline County, Virginia in 1790. Benjamin was a son of William Daniel and Mary Snead. Benjamin and Margaret moved almost immediately to Mercer County, Kentucky, and lived there for the rest of their lives. A son, and my ancestor, was Coleman Daniel, who married Elizabeth Kaye. There is a record in the Mercer County Courthouse of William Daniel deeding a slave to "my son Benjamin Daniel" in 1803. There is also record of a William Daniel belonging to the Baptist Church in Mercer County (Shawnne Baptist) as Benjamin. Whether this was Benjamin's father or a brother...or perhaps no relation...is not known Bill Brewer [email protected]
My Daniel is John Daniel (Dannel) who married Catey Couch or Catherine Couch. I have her birth year @ 1795 with both of them being NC. I cannot find them in the 1850 census. One of their children was Francis M Daniel (f) born 1823. Any help would be appreciated. My line is fairly certain back to John DANIEL and Sarah Wright DANIEL, born in Virginia, died in Laurens Co., SC. He died in 1819, per his will. Most early information is taken from the book by Christine South Gee. My direct line continues from these through John B. DANIEL and his wife Mary PUGH of Laurens, both of whom died and are buried in Jefferson Co., Alabama. Their son John DANIEL, b. 1800 in Laurens married Elizabeth JACKS in Jefferson Co., AL. Moved their family to Fayette Co., Tennessee, then to Yalobusha Co., Mississippi, and finally to Upshur Co. Texas by 1857. Related families are JACKS, FLANAGAN, STARNES, ROBBINS. My cousin A. David Daniel did the DNA testing for our branch. We have a 25/25 and 36/37 marker match with descendants of James of Albemarle Co., VA. I'm still stuck trying to prove my Josiah was the son of James Key and Sarah Brown Daniel (Person and Caswell Counties, NC). They have a yet-to-be-identified son the right age in the 1810 and 1820 census records.

Anyone have any info, fact or fiction, on any Elizabeth HOWE out of Clarendon, N. C., or other environs of Brunswick County, N. C. The children of General Robert Howe are treated very badly by internet sources. I am curious to see if the Elizabeth Howe, who supposedly married George Daniell, is the same Elizabeth as the daughter of Robert Howe. Anybody got a PDF on the Howes? Just curious, Payne
Good Morning, At the Library, yesterday, I found some interesting information in the Winter 2005 edition of the SCMAR. (SC Magazine of Ancestral Research), edited by Brent Holcomb. 1. According to the SCCMAR, Elizabeth DANIELL married Jonathan LAWRENCE on 5 May 1777 - not the 1 May 1777 recorded by many. 2. The 1770 Will of Nathan EVANS of Craven County, SC was also included. In it he had children, named Sarah, Nathan, Joanna and Betsy - Sarah ended up getting most of his estate. If someone would like a complete transcription of this will, let me know. John R.
