Evelyn Payne Daniel Evelyn Payne Daniel Nov. 8, 1916 - Nov 17, 2001 My Sweet Precious Mother It's your birthday again, five years have gone by and I still miss you so much. I asked you many times when I was a child, "Why do you love us so much?" You answered, "A mother carries her child under her heart for nine months, eats, sleeps and breathes for that child, but the day that child is born you carry them in your heart forever. Your sweet smile, the kindness in your eyes, your gentle touch and most of all your unconditional love. That is what I remembered the most. We all miss you so much. This poem is for you MOTHER ALL OUR LOVE Dad, Curtis, Betty, Johnnie, Bobby, Pat, Faye, Jay, Lee and Sissie. DEEP IN MY HEART Happy little memories go flitting through my mind, And in all my thoughts and memories I always seem to find. The picture of your face, dear, the memory of your touch, and all the other little things I've come to love so much. You cannot go beyond my thoughts or leave my love behind, because I keep you in heart and forever on my mind. And though I may not tell you, I think you know it's true, That I find daily happiness in the very thought of you. Published in the Tallahassee Democrat on 11/8/2006. John R. ATLANTA The Rev. Sally Daniel, opened doors By KAY POWELL The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 11/07/06 Sally Daniel listened intently to her minister's sermons. If his preaching slighted women, she would write him a note and drop it into the collection plate. Dissatisfied with the way the United Methodist Church treated women, she tried to talk to church leaders about changing. She was told her opinions didn't count because she had not attended seminary, said her daughter, Debby Daniel-Bryant of Griffin. "She thought, 'Well, I'll show you,' and entered Candler School of Theology." (ENLARGE) The Rev. Sally Daniel was a champion for those who had no voice in the church. "This is so typical of Sally. She would not be daunted," said Dr. James Laney, president emeritus of Emory University who has known her 55 years. "That made her very formidable." The woman who drove the getaway car for friends integrating the DeKalb public library became the champion of those in the church who had no voice. She opened day care centers and food banks while being an advocate for homosexuals and abortion rights. "She was an ardent feminist before it was mainstream," Dr. Laney said. "She never shied away from a controversy." The Rev. Sara "Sally" Bryant Veale Daniel, 75, died at her Atlanta residence Sunday of a possible stroke or heart attack, her daughter said. The body was donated to Emory University School of Medicine. The memorial service is 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Daniel was 48 when she completed seminary and was assigned to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, which later merged with Grant Park United Methodist. "She had been a full-time mother for a long time and hated it," her daughter said. "She didn't feel fulfilled. She was very unhappy." She worked as a model and fashion consultant. She took on causes through the League of Women Voters, Georgia Council on Human Relations and the civil rights movement. While two friends integrated the DeKalb library, "Sally was sitting out in the car in case anyone came to arrest them," said her friend Lynn Kerpel of DeKalb County. Her involvement with the interracial council cost her husband his job as assistant solicitor for DeKalb County, the Rev. Daniel said in 2004, and her family endured death threats. "She was very courageous," Dr. Laney said. She brought her energy and determination to the church, he said. She built the congregation through community outreach programs for children, the hungry and homeless. If the church had a cleanup day, she washed all 200 windows. If she preached about foot washing, she washed worshippers' feet. "She was a wonderful preacher. Even my Jewish husband thought so," Ms. Kerpel said. As the neighborhood changed, so did her congregation. "Gays became her flock," her daughter said. She started an AIDS ministry and in 1986 her church became a reconciling congregation welcoming everyone. Eventually, she was named AIDS ministries coordinator for the church's North Georgia Conference, which Dr. Laney called "an inspired appointment." In 1991, the Journal-Constitution reported, when word got out that she had performed a covenant service for two women, she was called on the carpet by her bishop and district superintendent. In 2004, when she received Agnes Scott College's service to community award she said, "I am more proud of being the pastor of a reconciling church than anything I have ever done." Other survivors include two sons, Troy Emory "Ted" Daniel III of Decatur and Lawrence William Daniel of Atlanta; a brother, William Whiting Beach Veale of Rio de Janeiro; two sisters, Nancy Ahern of New Haven, Conn., and Martha Lamberg-Karlovsky of Melrose, Mass.; and six grandchildren. Ok, here is informatin I found regarding a John, William and Bazzell Daniel serving in the Colonial Militia under Captain Henry Spears, Bazzell enlisted in 1758, John and William Daniel 1760 then Bazzell again in 1761. Someone on the list with all there research much know something or have some thoughts about how these Daniel men connect somehow? Thoughts? Ideas? I can't believe out of all the research that is out there on the web and the different Daniel lines? Some one has to have a inkling as to who they may connect to? There are so many Daniel lines that have been researched? Who's left? We have the Isle of Wight Daniels Prince George Daniels, Captain Allen Daniel, The Brunswick Daniels, Daniels of St. Clement. Abrose Daniel of Halifax, The Essex Daniels, The Roger Daniel line, Marmaduke Daniel and Nanny Still, the Middlesex Daniels. We have matched our Daniel DNA to five or six different lines. Brittain Daniel, Bazzell Daniel, etc. no one can get past the years of 1776. Also I have a question pertaining to Britton Daniel of Wayne county, NC. He was a justice of the peace in 1811? Who does he belong to? It seems now there are three Brittain Daniels? Payne's Brittain Daniel, our Brittain Daniel and the Britton Daniel of 1811, Wayne county? Someone out there has to have a clue as to who these elusive Daniel family members belong to? I have pasted below what records I have pertaining to Bazzell, John and William Daniel. The record reads: "The Deposition of Adam Cunningham aged fifty seven years. The Deponent being sworn saith that he came to this Colony about thirty years ago and that Joshua Job was at that time settled on the plantation whereon he now lives and further saith not. Adam Cunningham Sworn to this 27th November 1770 before James Wood." Adam, his brother Walter, and Adam's son's Edward and John were all members of the colonial militia, headed by Capt. Henry Speer. On 27 Oct 1758 Adam was fined 20 shillings for missing one private and one general muster and again, on 1 Nov 1760, Adam was fined 50 shillings for missing one general and four private musters. Fines for missing muster were assessed on 17 Oct 1758 against Adam's brother Walter, against Adam's son Edward, and against many of their neighbors who were enrolled in Capt. Speer's company, including Moses McCoy, Joshua Job, Daniel Stover, Henry Harden, Larkin Pearpoint, Charles Thompson, Charles Ragon, John Odell, Robert Shirley, Edward Collins, William Hughes, John Daniel and William Daniel. Capt. Speer's assessment fine list of 1 Nov 1760 additionally included Moses McCoy, Zachariah McCoy and Walter Cunningham. Captain Henry Spears company 1761 The following fines were levied . Ten shillings for missing i general. Jackson Allen, Joseph Allen, Frances Neffe. Fined 10 shillings James McCoy, Henry Hardin Jr., Enoch Job, William Davis, Zachariah Campbell, John Cunningham, John Combs, Bazell Daniel and John O'Dell. Tinde 20 shillings for missing 1 private and general muster, Moses McCoy, Zachariah McCoy and Elisha Riggins. John Davis, Walter Cunningham and Henry Hardin, discharged, Captain John Schene was fined 10 pounds for not appearing with his company at the last general muster and for not making any return. Captain John Schene had his fine from the last court martial remitted. John Rhodes, Daniel Stover and Phillip Crame, discharged from the company of John Schene. Nathaniel Bell discharges from the company of Captain Lewis Moore. Robert Rutherford to be paid his salary. Captain John Greenfield to be continued as treasurer --------------------------------- Want to start your own business? Learn how on Yahoo! Small Business.

This is what I have found so far on my Isham John Daniel: He was born in 1829 in Sumter Co., Alabama. He married on 30 Mar 1848 in Sumter Co., AL to Mary Adeliza Rainey, b. 26 Jan 1829 in Georgia. They had the following children: Eugene A., b. 25 Mar 1849 in Sumter Co., AL, d. 14 Jan 1935 in Putnam Co., GA; Mary A., b. abt 1851; Isham?, b. abt 1853; Matilda "Mattie" A., b. abt 1856; and Charlie B., b. abt 1863. I have found Isham John Daniel in the following census records: 1850 - Intercourse, Sumter, AL - listed are: Isham J. Daniel, (21, clerk, AL); Mary A., (21, GA) and Eugenia (correctly listed as a male), (10/12, AL). I also found on the page immediately preceding this one a Samuel D. Daniel (27, merchant, NC), Sarah D. (28, AL), and Lewis Hitt, (9, AL). I do not know whether or not he is related to my Isham John Daniel. 1860 - Auburn, Hinds, MS - listed in the Heritage Quest transcribed index as J.J. Daniel (31, AL, Presbyterian Minister))living with M.A. Daniel (31, GA), E.A. Daniel (11, AL), M.A. Daniel, Jr. (9, AL), I. Daniel (7, MS) and M.A. Daniel (4, MS). 1870 - Edwards, Hinds, MS - listed in the Heritage Quest transcribed index as Isham J. Daniels (41, MS, minister), Mary A. (41, GA), Mary A. (19, AL), Mattie A. (13, MS), Charly B. (7, MS). Living with them is Fields, Nescia (60, B, KY, cook) 1880 - Edwards, Hinds, MS - listed in the LDS transcribed index as Johann Daniel, however upon personal examination of the original page it is clearly Isham J. Daniel. Listed are: Daniel, Isham J., (51, clergyman, AL, NC, VA); Mary A., (51, GA, GA, GA); Mary A., (28, AL, AL, GA); Mattie A., (23, MS, AL, GA); Charlie B., (17, MS, AL, GA). Also listed in this household is Reinhardt, Chas., (16, nephew, MS, Germany, AL). I have also been in touch with the Presbyterian History Center, where I found that he was Pastor in Bryan, Texas from 1886 to 1888. After that he retired and died sometime before 1900. Regarding his wife, Mary Adeliza Rainey, I have been told by Rainey researchers that her parents were James Harvey Rainey, b. 18 Nov 1794, d. 1845, and Angeline Maria Adams, b. 1799. d. 1832. Their other children were: Elizabeth M., b. 6 Dec 1818; William B., b. 19 May 1820; Harriet, b. 16 Dec 1821, d. 14 Sep 1894; Juliet Marion, b. 11 Aug 1825, d. 24 Jun 1887; James George, b. Sep 1827; and Albina, b. 17 Apr 1831. Now, I found a marriage record for an Albina Rainey to Benjamin Hitt, but it is dated 1838, which doesn't seem right to me, perhaps this marriage was for an aunt or other relative. However the Hitt surname fits in with the Samuel D. Daniel that I found in the 1850 census records. Any help is greatly and gratefully appreciated. Regards, Linda Scott
