I am a descendant of James B. Daniel who died in Orange County, NC. However, we believe that he probably went to Jackson County, and returned to NC. James Key's wife was Sallye Brown of Person County, NC. That is where the name Brown came from. I believe, but have no proof, that James B was James Brown Daniel. James Key had at least two sons that were not identified, as well as two daughters. My brother and I have been to Jackson County and learned that there was also a Robert Daniel who went there in 1836. He was s/o a Robert Daniel who was born in Middlesex County, VA. I have a short biography on him but have not heard of this George. I have a map of the county showing where different people lived. I do not find George. I would like to know more about him. Do you have his birth year? How long did he stay in MO? You are right, these names do sound like they belong to the same family. This was not a house divided. John Daniel's family was Confederate as was his family in NC. Do you have a male Daniel that has had DNA testing? My brother, Cecil Daniels, has been tested and we have our Daniel line documented. Chances are that I am drawing an incorrect conclusion but I would like to know what your think. Message: "I have seen that George might be the son of Wyatt but I have seen no documentation. There is a side of the Daniel family that has Wyatt as its head but it does not appear to have been thoroughly researched or documented. I am trying to see if there is a connection with the John Daniel family from Jackson Co., MO. (George B Daniel lived and married, Rebecca Savage, there in 1837). John and family arrived in 1836, the year before George married Rebecca. One thing that is striking about these Daniel families is that they surely knew each other as they lived relative close. Another is that George's children have all the right names to be relatives of John's family and ancestors; George, Brown, Josiah, John, Sarah, Francis, Araminta and of course Jeff Davis (JD because of his southern leanings not the actual name). An ironic note is that one of the older sons is named John Brown and the youngest is Jeff Davis. A House Divided! My Daniel - John Daniel, is thought to have had several brothers and sisters but despite being well researched only John and his brother, James B, have been identified. They probably had a younger brother and George would be the right age, at the right time and in the right place to be that person. Also, George married when he was twenty and it seems unlikely that he would have gone alone to an area as far from NC as Jackson Co., MO. He would never have had the financial resources or experience to make it on his own. I'm thinking he might have tagged along with John and his family and then decided to move on to TX. I also know that John Daniel and family had connections to Sherman, TX and the surrounding counties. (Note: I have no 1840 census record but have the rest for John Daniel & family) There was at least one other DANIEL family in Jackson county but I have not been able to connect George to them either. All the other families I mentioned are allied with my Daniel family by marriage. I am trying to get some sense as to why so many of them moved away from Jackson Co., within ten years after the war ended. Any info on the Caves as well as the others would be appreciated. I have collected all these bones over the past few years; am now trying to put some meat on them. Of course, I am especially interested in contacting individuals from the Daniel family but also any of the others as they may also have helpful information. Gil - I am a blonde - with native American blood - and a woman... the jokes that circulate in re: the above are legion... however I take it as that - a joke - nothing more, nothing less... and I move on. I know who I am and where I am going, and life is too short to get angry about the 'little stuff'... a 'joke'. I am sure that there a more jokes in email about blonds, women, and Indians than about gay men... lighten up - perhaps this was not the format for a joke, but what's done is done. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tziggan Surnames: Daniel, Jones Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.daniel/2160/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, all, I've been doing British wills in Salt Lake the last several years, including Daniel, and a while back I did the will of John Daniell Notary Publique, of St. Bartholomew near the Royal Exchange, wr 27 Sep 1665, pr 18 Nov 1665, LDS film 92284, will book "Hyde", folio 139. This is the John Daniell currently proposed as the natural father of Thomas Daniel of VA Isle of Wight, by Ann who died as widow Jones in St. Clement Danes. There are only a couple of gedcoms out there at worldonnect and ancestry that have posted this connection, so it hasn't taken hold and become too set. Not such good news for the connection: the will of John Daniell of London 1665 shows his son Thomas does not fit the Thomas of Isle of Wight. I can only describe the differences based on what is currently (Nov 2008) presented online: that Thomas of IOW is the elder of John of London's sons, was b. ca 1631, md. ca 1655, d.1709. In the London will of John Daniell the sons are named in the order Charles Daniell and Thomas Daniell; they are named only once with no wording suggesting Thomas is older or younger, and there's no wording suggesting Thomas is of any different status than Charles (i.e. by another wife, or a natural son by another woman). Both of these boys share equally in the estate: they split 1/2 and widow Susan is to get 1/2 (she had a previous unnamed husband and children by him). Both Charles and Thomas are under 21, that's made clear three different times (to get their parts at 21; if either dies before 21 their part goes to survivor; if both die before 21 t! heir parts to other named devisees). So John the Notary's Thomas Daniell is born after 1643, i.e. not fitting the birth of the Thomas Daniel of Isle of Wight who is proposed as son of Ann Jones of St. Clement Danes, and not allowing for births of his own children in 1657-1663. The reason I have kept up with this bunch in England is because a long time ago I had found a marriage of an Edward Jones to an Ann Daniel in St. James Clerkenwell, 12 Jun 1656. It seemed like a good namesake and good timing based on the will of Ann Jones (side legacies to an Edward and Patience Jones). I was also intrigued by this pairing because an "Edward Jones of St. Clement Danes" had earlier married in St. James Clerkenwell, to "Mehetabell Therold of St. James Clerkenwell", on 2 Jan 1633/4. They had children for a few years on a parish path going east (from Clerkenwell toward St. Clement Danes), and then that wife Mehetabell seems to drop out of records. I was seeing the possibility that this Edward Jones was widowed and might be the same who later married Ann Daniel. However, this was just seeing possibilities for further research, I have no proof it's the same Edward Jones. To my surprise, a couple years ago, someone submitted the 1656 Edward Jones and Ann Dani! el marriage as a private entry to the igi, saying the marriage happened at St. Clement Danes. The original St. Clement Danes marriage register doesn't have the marriage, only the St. James Clerkenwell registers, but I figured the submitter may have followed the same trail or may have found some other info somewhere else. I pulled that igi entry several times after first spotting it, but haven't been able to pull it up again in the last year or so, don't know what's happened (my notes are clear so I'm not yet at the point of thinking it was a hallucination, but give me a moment or two and who knows). I've done big chunks of the original St. Clement Danes register and found that "Ann Jones an ancient woman" was buried on 10 Oct 1677. Unfortunately, I've since realized that I stopped reading the burials at the beginning of 1678 (what a goof). Ann Jones' will was proved 6 Feb 1678/9, some 15 months after this burial, explainable by speculation, but I'm concerned there may be another burial closer to that proving date for another Ann Jones who would be more appropriate for the Ann of the will. There's no adult Edward Jones buried in St. Clement Danes between 1656 and 1678, which doesn't help in the above notion of the Edward Jones and Ann Daniel pairing. On the other hand, the fact that Ann Jones ended in St. Clement Danes doesn't mean her husband did. Anyway, a new look at the London John Daniell connection to Thomas of IOW, Pam in CA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
