    3. Hi Jack,  This is the one I received from you earlier today. Vivion Daniel is my 4th great grandfather. Thanks a lot. I don't remember the one on the newspaper ad and petition, etc but I might have missed it.   Marianne Diillow   --- On Tue, 1/6/09, Jack Butler <jackvbutler@comcast.net> wrote: From: Jack Butler <jackvbutler@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [DANIEL] Vivion Daniel Rev War Record, Orange Co., Va. To: DANIEL@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 7:30 PM Hi guys, I tried to send this email earlier - prior to the one that came through about the newspaper add and petition. I never saw it come through, so I am sending it again. If it comes through twice, my apologies. Just as an FYI, Vivion Daniel appears on a number of Revolutionary War records, digitized images of which can be accessed through Footnote.com (No, I am not a salesman, just a satisfied subscriber.): There is a 5 page (those little fold-up portfolio pages) Compiled Service Record - this is essentially a summary of his Rev War records. There is a payroll dated 1 June to 1 August, 1779, for Captain Garland Burney's Company of Colonel Francis Taylor's Regiment of Militia (Albemarle County, VA, 1779, folder 343, Page 16). Vivion Daniel also appears multiple times in Revolutionary War Pension files - not as pensioner, but as a supporting witness in several men's pension applications. The signature appears the same in the three that I took a quick look at, so if you are a descendant of Vivion Daniel (I am not) and want his autograph, this could be the place. Good hunting. 3. Hi Jack,   Vivion Daniel Sr. who married Elizabeth Vivion died in 1803 in Clark County, Ky. I have his will.   He had a son Vivion Daniel, Jr. who I never traced. I am thinking this must be him. If it is I descend from Vivion Daniel and Marggaret Vivion's daughter  Frances who married John Dale. This would be her brother I suspect.   Marianne Dillow     --- On Tue, 1/6/09, Jack Butler <jackvbutler@comcast.net> wrote: From: Jack Butler <jackvbutler@comcast.net> Subject: [DANIEL] Vivion Daniel - a couple of other notes. To: DANIEL@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 5:40 PM Since I was playing around in my subscription databases, I tried Vivion Daniel in GenealogyBank.com and found two references: On Saturday, 27 November 1813, Vivion Daniel ran an advertisment in The Reporter, a newspaper in Lexington, Kentucky. The ad said that Vivion Daniel had "taken up" a sorrell horse. The ad describes the horse in some detail and sets the appraised value at $18. The ad was placed by the local Justice of the Peace. I believe that he had found this horse and was giving the owner a chance to regain or sell him the horse. He signed the "Memorial of citizens of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, in favor of a restoration of the deposites. April 8, 1834". By one of those odd little coincidences in life, I just finished reading a new book about Andrew Jackson last night and recognized this memorial as a plea to Congress to force the Excutive Branch of the U.S. Government to restore recently removed U.S. funds deposits to the United States Bank. Andrew Jackson believed the bank to be a dangerously corrupting influence on the government (Congressmen who supported bills the bank favored tended to get substantial loans at very favorable rates.) so he removed all U. S. funds from the national bank and deposited them in various State banks. It was a huge political battle in 1834, but Jackson won and the Banked ceased to exist. Jack Butler

    3. Hi Pam,   Thanks for sending this info. I did see the record on the drum. LOL !   Those two sources sounds so confusing as to their dates,. I know they have Vivion  (Vivian)Daniel as a Sergeant on Ancestry as I subscribe to it. But I don't know about the Captain info.   Also Vivion Daniel did serve on Orange County Commitee of Safety with James Madison 1774-1775. The Captain and the dates is what is bothering me. I would like to know when he left service and the true rank he held. If I wanted to join the DAR I would have to be able to prove it. :)   Best Wishes, Marianne  Dillow   From: P. A. 1. [DANIEL] Derrill M. Daniel
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Does anyone know this person? In 1963 he was the President of Gordon Military College, so he was one of the signers of my HS Diploma. I do not remember him because I spent very little time in the administrative offices of Gordon. I remember Col. C. T. B. Harris, well, but only have vague remembrances of Col. Daniel. I wonder which Daniel line he was out of if anyone knows. SSG John R. Clarke, PIO, 1st BN, 1ST BDE, SC State Guard 410 Highland Ave. Batesburg, SC 29006-1311 803-604-5189

It solved a little mystery for me, and there is a sidebar full of links for other helpful sites. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
