I did find a reference which may be helpful. I am not related to this family and have no further information. In Norfolk, VA Marriages table, I saw the following: 15 Jan 1770 Charles COOPER & Mrs. Ann DALE; Sur. Chapman Manson This would make sense since in researching the descendants of John McElroy who was said to have married a half-sister to Commodore Richard Dale, named Ann Cooper, I found John and Ann had a child named Charles Cooper McElroy, born ca. 1800. Therefore, I suspect Ann Cooper who married John McElroy was the daughter of Charles Cooper and Ann Sutherland, widow of Winfield Dale.
