    3. Hi David My husband is descended from Patrick Dale and Mary McGovern (McGavern) through his eldest child James Dale (1831) who married Sarah Jane Gillespie in Maybole, Ayrshire in 1862. Soon after their marriage they set sail for Brisbane Australia and took up land at Rosewood west of Brisbane. A Dale descendent still lives in the house. Other children are - Daniel Dale b 1835, married Jane Devlin. He died soon after (1872) and Jane and her dau Mary are believed to have come to Victoria Australia. No further info there but I will look when I get a chance. Ellen (aka Helen) Dale b 1838 m Robert Campbell in Scotland. Soon after Robert died Ellen came to Brisbane Australia in 1885 with her five children. She later remarried. Patrick Dale b 1844, m Catherine Clifford in Ipswich Qld Australia in 1881. They too settled in the Rosewood area. I have only just looked at the Dale family in recent months though we did go to the Dale Family Reunion at Rosewood in 1984 where there were over 400 people. The original Dale researcher, John Dale, school teacher, died from a heart attack in 2001 after an altercation with a pupil. As John had never married, I had wondered what happened to his research and did not want to worry the family. A couple of weeks we received a letter from the chairman of the Reunion Committee asking for help in finding some of the original participants. I am currently helping him find them. John Dale did extensive research and I understand he went back to Ireland and Scotland and purchased the house they lived in (Ireland) I think. There was other property involved too. As on one had contacted John's family re the research, the chairman of the committee now has three large boxes to go through. I hope to help him and extend my research. I do have a tree on Ancestry but it is a private one at the moment as I have much to enter. I doubt if I could persuade my husband Harvey to submit to a DNA test as they are very expensive here. He is inclined to think that RIP means exactly that and is not much interested in family history. I have been researching my family since I retired in 1998. I do have some certificates and census info from Scotland's People. If you have any further info I would appreciate receiving it. The earliest Dales that I have come across in Girvan were descended from a Patrick Dale (b. c. 1801, Ireland) and Mary McGovern (b. c. 1806, Ireland, died 4th Feb 1879, Girvan). They moved to Girvan sometime before 1831 as their first child James, was born in Ayrshire in 1831. Mary McGovern's parents were Daniel McGovern and Mary McConnill. I have never been able to trace Patrick Dale's parent's but suspect his father was called James as the second male child was called Daniel, probably after Mary McGovern's father. In the census' of Girvan there do not appear to be any other Dale families. Has your husband considered DNA testing - myself and Ron Dale are both descended from the Dale families from Magherafelt - his ancestors moving to Canada in the early 19th century, mine to Scotland in the late 19th Century, DNA testing has proved that we are distantly related. As far as I am aware no other Dale families specifically mention Girvan in their family history, apart from our own, and DNA testing has confirmed that other Dale families from Co. Antrim were also related. Best Regards David Dale

    3. Good morning Pam I am a Dale also.  I can only go back to William Dale (m. Anne Mitchellson) who came to Montreal CA between 1830 and 1837.  I can find nothing except family lore that tells me where he may have come from.  I believe Mitchellson to be a Scottish name but cannot prove that either.  I've been following your conversation for the last couple of days and wonder if it's possible that you "lost" an Irish Wm Dale anywhere about that time.  I niow it's a long shot but I'm running out of dead ends to follow. Thanks.
