The Maryland Dales arrived about a century later than Nicholas Dale. While the Virginian Dales were English, the Maryland Dales were Ulster Scots. DNA from descendents of both lines show that there is no common ancestry shared by these Dales. There are a number of Dale lines that are not related to each other, showing that the surname was developed independently in several locations.
