I'm still very much interested in my Dail ancestors. My maternal grandmother was a granddaughter of Henry (aka Hillery S.) Dail. She did not die until 1995, so gave my mom what info she knew. My mom passed away in 2001, but not before we met Jerry Dale. Jerry and I "dug" diligently, but with little result. Jerry, unfortunately, has passed away too. Someone told my mom that the Dails possibly came from Greene Co., AL, but I've found more in Greene Co., NC. Like you, I would have thought Scottish background. I'm also lead to believe they migrated from Virginia, as many did to Cumberland Co., NC. That would certainly make you think English roots. Mom had some copies of old deeds of Henry S. DEAL. 'Not much help. His marriage record to Sarah does not list any parents. My mom knew the exact location of their unmarked graves. They are not in the cemetery registry. There is talk among some of the Dail/Dale descendants of possible Cherokee blood. That came from a story passed down to them. They've not been able to prove it yet. 'Hope some of the males in our line have their Y-DNA tested. That might help us. Donna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
