Author: AMS64 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/871.1.1.3.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My father in law mentioned once to me that he recalled when he was living in OK as a very small boy his grandmother, who died there in OK, was Cherokee...he couldn't recall how much, but he said she was either full Cherokee or 3/4. The only grandmother he had that died in OK was Letha Mae Dale. She is buried in Denison Cemetery,Idabel, Mc Curtain, OK. For many years I had her father listed a J. Dale and mother Ida. The only J. Dale and Ida I have found was John L. Dale and Ida Abell, both of Texas. However, both John L Dale and Ida, from photo I found do not appear to be Cherokee. I have found a James Dale on the Dawes Roll. However, no further info. As for Samuel Dale, I do not have anything for him, but in research I did find a Gen.Samuel Dale, but no record of him ever getting married or having kids. He was involved with the Indians alot. Don't know if there is any kind of family connection, but there sure are alot of signs that indicate it, but just can't piece it all t! ogether yet. 1. [DALE] Will of Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale, d. 1632/3, grandmother of Maj. Edward Dale of Lancaster Co., VA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jeffchip9 Surnames: Dale, Elliott, Rudyard Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1240/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following quote is from the will of Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale of London, grandmother of Maj. Edward Dale of Lancaster Co., VA, proved Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 8 Feb 1632/3: "I give and bequeath unto James Rudarde and Mary his wife the full some of five hundred pounds of currant money of England in full payment and satisfaccon of all claymes, somes of money part and portion which they or either of them shall or may clayme to part or out of the estate of Richard Dale my late deceased sonne either by the customs of London or otherwise." If you render this clause into modern language, this is how it reads: "I give and bequeath unto James Rudyard and Mary his wife the full sum of five hundred pounds of current money of England in full payment and satisfaction of all claims, sums of money part and portion which they or either of them shall or may claim to part or out of the estate of Richard Dale my late deceased son either by the Common Law of London or otherwise." Mary Rudyard (Rudarde) was the daughter of Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale. This clause is a waiver of any rights Mary and her husband might have under Common Law against the estate of Mary's deceased brother Richard Dale. Evidently Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale was the administrator of Richard Dale's estate, and she incorporated this waiver into her own will. Not all of her children received money from Richard Dale's estate in this fashion. Why did Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale incorporate a waiver of Common Law rights against the estate of Richard Dale into her own will? She probably told Mary that if Mary would wait for her share of Richard Dale's estate, Mary would receive more money than if Mary took her portion immediately. There is evidence which suggests that Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale engaged in investments of her own following the death of her husband William Dale, grocer of London. William and Elizabeth (Elliott) Dale had two sons, Robert and Richard. Richard d.s.p. and is not shown in the two Herald's Visitations of the family. Robert was their only surviving son. 1. [DALE] Need Info on John Orr and wife Frances Dale That Died in Sumner Co., Tn, Possibly From Va
    2. I have posted before on my 5th great grandparents John Orr and Frances unknown before. I descend from their daughter Margaret Orr who married William Ogles 15 July 1803. Margaret Orr and Wiliam Ogles  were both in Sumner Co., Tn and across the state line in Allen Co., Ky. I am now finding on Ancestry that John Orr's parents are William Orr and Mary unknown from Isle of Wight County, Va.  and  my JOHN ORR was married to FRANCES DALE. My John Orr died ca 1814 in Sumner Co., Tn and left an inventory of his estate. I have the other children as well as my Margaret that married William Ogles. Could someone provide me with some information on William Orr and Frances Dale please. I have been looking for John Orr's  parentage for a long time but no data on this plus his wife Frances Dale. I do have a copy of a William Ore in Sumner Co.,Tn in a deed dated 18 March 1796 between him and Robert Hays of Davidson County, Tn.  A witness was Robert Oar. I don't know if this is the same William Ore (Orr) or not. . Any information would greatly be appreciated. Marianne Dillow Illinois

I haven't been on line for a bit of time. I found this info ages and ages ago at the Family History Library looking in Stark Co. Ohio marriages. I'll be going to the library in the next week or so and will look it up again and get an exact date for you. I had looked for more info on her - her parents - but found none. As I recall (it was some time back) she was a little girl about 5 yrs old living with her sister and the sister's husband (again I will look it up) and there were no parents... I assume they died? I was never able for find out more - I don't have a date of her death. Years ago I was in Ohio and stopped in at several repositories of old records and was not able to find a death record for her. Will try again, though. I'm so happy to be able to let you know something new for your search! Will contact you again soon. Alice, who married a man named Martin, was said to be the family genealogist but the records of her search have proved elusive. I understand there are pictures of David and Mary Ann Parker in those records. However, I do have considerable information regarding your branch of the family including one by the name Callahan. The carriage/blacksmith shop you refer to was located at 220 Spruce street but is long gone now. It was actually owned by George's older brother Samuel, my dad's father. Samuel was continuing in the same work as his father, David. George was an apprentice there until his eyes were damaged by sparks. He had to take up a new line of work which was ownership of the flower shop. My dad's brother Herschel Parker took over the blacksmith shop when their father died. Later on Herschel moved his family to Grove City in Western Pennsylvania. My mother grew up in Philipsburg as well. She was a Wilson. There are many Wilson relatives who currently live in or near Philipsburg, including the Hicksons, Pelkas, Cragos and Mayhews, Woods, and Walkers. My mother and father moved our family to Michigan in 1929. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: marianne_rothwell Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1230.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: So nice to learn about these things. My father was James D McCamley of Philipsburg Pa and his mother was Helen Parker daughter of George Parker and George Parker was the son of David Parker. My grandmother Helen had a flower shop and passed along some things like a beautiful craved wooden bed that supposedly belonged to David and Mary Ann. I remember visiting their grave site when my father passed away about 6 years ago . We actually have some grave plots beside them I believe. We have an old painting of a Parker that we think is George . He had a carriage shop in town and he had 3 daughters Helen, Alice and Nina. My father used to talk about the family dinners when all the many relatives would gather every Sunday. So David and Mary Ann would be my great great grandfather and grandmother. Love to know more.
