Author: patsylawton Surnames: Lawton, Dale, Howard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1142.5/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My name is Patsy Lawton. My kids' great-great-grandmother was Nellie Dale on the fathers side. Dale being her maiden name apparently. Nellie was from supposedly Bridgeport New York, however sometime in the 1800's she was in Texas performing at local theatre's. One of which being at the JW Thompson Theatre. Nellie was killed from a carriage accident in 1889. Nellie left behind 2 children, one of which was my kids great grandfather, Jasper Howard Lawton. On the birth certificate for Jasper Howard (Joseph Howard)Lawton Opa's father on the birth certificate was BF Lawton. This again was in San Antonio Texas. Nellie was born 1866. We were told she was from New York, but the birth certificate for Opa was San Antonio Texas. If you have any information about this please contact me asap. Nellie's name on the birth certificate was Howard as her last name, so we don't know if there was a marriage that took place also, we know she was a performer, and it said her stage name was Dale, bu! t clippings said her last name at the time of her death was Howard. We also know she was associated with the Staacke family in San Antonio, August Ernest Staacke was supposedly the kids gggrandfather, however through a DNA test we found that not to be true. We have been searching for a very long time. Thank You. God Bless. Nellie apparently also had a daughter of which we know nothing about. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Dale, Dales, Deal, Deals, Deall, Dail Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1142.4.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Don, I don't know the lineage of the Louisiana Dales but suspect that they are an offshoot of the Missouri Dales. This branch started in Scotland to County Derry to Maryland and from then to Kentucky, Missouri and then Colorado. I would have to do some digging to see how the Louisiana Dales trace back. When I did the DNA thing I used Ancestry but that time the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation was offering free tests so I also had them test the DNA and then finally to be certain of results I used Family Tree DNA. All three tests at different times by different labs produced the same results or values, which is very reassuring. It has also opened up the search possibilities for others who have had the tests done. For example, there is a very large number of folks from different English Dale lines in several different areas of England who have done the test. There appears to be no relationship between our Scots Dales from Ayrshire and these English Dales. Are you a Louisiana Dale? Grace was the daughter of Robert (or Thomas) & Mary (Thompson) Gibson. She was born on 7 Oct 1760 in Cloughton, Yorkshire, England and she died on 9 Jul 1844 in Sherburn, Yorkshire, England. Lawrence was the son of Laurence and Hannah (Kettlewood) Dale. He was born on 29 Mar 1766 in Settrington, East Riding, Yorkshire, England [1] and he died aft, 1841 in Sherburn, Yorkshire, England. It has been quite awhile since you posted this msg. and quite some time that I researched the Dales (as I have some ancestry in common with you as a descendant of Thomas Dale who was, as you know, brother to Hannah). Found some of these facts at Rootsweb World Connect; other facts at FreeREG; and sort of cobbled the info together bit by bit. Can say that the most informative resource available was, The register of the parish of Settrington, 1559-1812 (1910)," which you may find on-line at "Internet Archive" and (probably) GoogleBooks. [1] You wiil find the birth/bapt. record of Hannah's father, Lawrence, on p. 194. [2] You will find the marriage record if Hannah's grand-parents on p. 180. Much more to be disvovered there about the Monkman, Dales, and Kettlewood famiies going back many, many generations. Here's link to the Settrington Parish Register @ Internet Archive should you be interested in reading it on-line. http://archive.org/details/registerofparish38sett Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Guess that answers that! The info I had that my Isabella Johnston was married to a John Dale came from a researcher of the family lines who currently lies not far from Castledawson. I did request proof at the time he shared this info with me, but none was ever forthcoming. Have been working a bit on my Johnston line of late and decided to see what info I would be able to locate concerning John's sibblings and parents. ie did any one else immigrate at the time he did(?), if not where did they all go(?) plus a million other questions. I have been able to locate a uncle of John Johnston's, immigrated to Ontario as well, although settled in a area quite a distance from where John settled. Always thought families immigrated pretty much together, always a learning curve. Thank you again!! Your time and info is greatly appreciated. Got to love a good mystery! 1. [DALE] Dales from Deptford

    3. Hi, I am new to the list and I would like your advise to see if I finally have the corect family. My ancestor Jane Ruth Curby Dale was bapt 3 Jun 1810, St Paul Deptford. Her parents were stated as John and Ann. I found a sister Ann Charlotte bapt in 1815. Other than that I have found no other children or a correct John and Ann in the census. I have recently been relooking at this line and have found a John and Mary in the 1841 census followed by a marriage of a John Thickett Dale to a Mary Ann Dobinson on the 28th Oct 1810 at Deptford. Could this be Jane's parents? This couple also had a daughter Mary Elizabeth b.1813 with the mother's name being stated as Mary. If this is her family then she was not named after anyone in the family. There are no Janes or Ruths or Curbys in either of these lines that I have so far found. Also they were married 4 months after Jane was baptised. In the past I found a John and Ann who I thought were Jane's parents and traced their lines back many generations only to find that it was the wrong couple. There are pros and cons for the above couple to be Jane's parents so I would greatly appreciate the lists opinions on whether they think I have or haven't got the correct parents for Jane this time. Thankyou in advance for your help. Cheers, Catherine.

The Maryland Dales arrived about a century later than Nicholas Dale. While the Virginian Dales were English, the Maryland Dales were Ulster Scots. DNA from descendents of both lines show that there is no common ancestry shared by these Dales. There are a number of Dale lines that are not related to each other, showing that the surname was developed independently in several locations. I suspect that the same would be true for many who share this type of surname--like Hills. Ron Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
