Currently I am awaiting some more reels of microfilm from PRONI--this time the lease records of the Salters Guild that planted the part of Derry in which my ancestors settled. If it would be of use to you I would be happy to send a GEDCOM full of Dales. I continue to hope that a few more Dales will take the DNA test as this really helps put puzzle pieces together. I will be retiring in a few years and can devote much more time to my research and my writing so I do hope to publish a book about the Magherafelt area of Derry--who lived there, what they did, why they came there and why many emigrated--that sort of thing. When I was at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland a few years ago I copied all Dale information from index cards. I was only there for a half day. There were a couple of James Dale entries from Armagh. One family was Quaker. Do you know any male Dale descendents who might be willing to do the DNA test? There is a Dale family legend that says that four Dale brothers came from Ayrshire in Scotland after 1690 to settle in Antrim, Derry, Down and Armagh. I have been researching the Derry Dales and have linked up with a fellow Dale researching his Antrim Roots. We have looked at and recorded some information on Armagh and Down Dales. We have had our DNA tests done and it shows that he (from the Antrim Dales) and I (from the Derry Dales) share a common ancestor back around 1650-1700, which gives credence to the above mentioned myth. I have noted this Hugh Dale to whom you are related and have wondered where they emigrated from. The name Hugh gets used a lot in Antrim Dales who later moved to the Garvagh area of Derry and to Down Dales. I do note that Ann Jane Dodds was the daughter of Robert Dodds from Armagh where there were several Dale families. I assume that Ann Jane and Hugh were married in Canada but there may have been some connection--even possible neighbours back in the old country. I would be most interested in finding Dale descendents whose ancestors came from Armagh and Down who would get their DNA tested. This could open up a whole new avenue of research. So whether or not I am somehow related to your Hugh is a moot point. Ron Dale Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello I am new to this list and researching my husband's family. He is descended from James DALE and Sarah Jane GILLESPIE who settled at Daisy Park Rosewood Queensland Australia in 1870. Other family members in Australia are - His brother Patrick DALE & Catherine CLIFFORD. Their sister Ellen DALE & Robert CAMPBELL These families are originally from Ireland and Scotland. Is there anyone researching these families as I will shortly have access to the research undertaken by the late John Dale, schoolteacher. Pam Dale Brisbane Australia

Looks like your in FT-DNA at 67 markers, I prefer FT-DNA, but don't forget to log your data into DNA.Ancestry, as you can compare to other tested Dales, some Hap. I, and some w/ Ireland connection. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Dale Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1184.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The only Walter Dale that sort of fits is a Walter who arrived in Canada aboard the steamer "Prussian" on July 25, 1875, age 8. Also on board the only other Dales were Henry, age 10, Arthur, 8 and Septimus, 6. A John Dale, aged 47, a labourer, had arrived on the same ship from England on June 18, 1875. Walter was born in England on Apr 2, 1869 and married Jane Margaret Atkinson in Guelph on May 17, 1893. He was listed as a weaver. Oddly on the marriage record it is noted that Walter could not remember his parents' names so they are not listed! The couple were in Grantham Township in 1901, he as a winery labourer. They were still there in 1911--he now listed as a farm labourer. No children are listed. At some point they went west as we find there deaths in British Columbia, je on November 23, 1953 and she on Nov 26, 1946. Walter had a brother William Henry Dale who used him as his next of kin on his WW 1 attestation papers. William lists his place of birth as Sheffield, England and his profession as a carpenter. He listed his birth date as June 25, 1877 which is a bit odd. He enlisted in Winnipeg and his residence was a hotel at the time. I think that he was anxious to enlist and may in fact be the Henry who emigrated in 1875, conveniently shaving a decade off of his age in fear of being rejected as being too old in 1916. Of course that is pure speculation. Ron Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
