Author: writingmother Surnames: Dale Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/523.1.1.3.1.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My grandfather or great grandfather migrated from Germany, and his name was John Dale. My maiden name is Dale. He moved to North Chattanooga, near the Tennessee River (found out from census records). He lived there with several family members that came (apparently on a ship) with him from Germany. Now, many of my family members moved to places like Oklahoma, Talking Rock GA, Chattanooga TN. I know we have to be related to the ones that went to Missouri. Our family has been so vague about the history that it's been hard to trace them. In my line, there are names like: Sara, John, Elizabeth, Eve, Eva, Charles, & Margaret that keep on resurfacing, as I trace roots. Some of the ones I knew personally, have held those names, and the name Andrew comes up, as well. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am just starting out researching a Dale line from the County Armagh area. Descendants of the Robert Dale that appears that in the Griffiths Valuation (Robert's father was a John Dale) I'm only starting to piece together the line, but I know that Robert lived in and around the Ardress West/Annaghmore area and had at least two children from his second marriage, a John Dale born 1870 and an Emily Dale born around 1878. Haven't established as yet who Robert was first married to, but his second marriage was to Margaret Neal. I am in contact with a direct descendant through Emily Dale who went on to married Thomas Ferguson. Emily's daughter is still alive around the age of 90 and her son aged around 55 would be the direct descendant. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Dale Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/968.3.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi John, It is not the female DNA that is used but the male DNA--your mother's DNA or mtDNA will show the deep ancestry, eg from which branch of Europeans she is descended. Fathers pass on Y DNA markers to their sons and these markers change only slightly with each generation so the male DNA is useful for finding whether or not you share a common ancestor with other Dales who have been tested. The two main companies, with searchable databases of others who have had the test done are Family Tree DNA and Ancestry DNA. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/968.3.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi John, My Dales were actually from Ayrshire Scotland. After 1690 four Dale brothers went to Ireland, one ending up in each of Antrim, Armagh, Derry or Down. Or so the family story goes. I have traced my line back to Derry and I have a "cousin" in Australia who traces back to a Dale who settled in Antrim. Our DNA proves that we share a common ancestor back a few hundred years--the father of the four Dale brothers. We need to find an Armagh and Down Dale to take the DNA and complete the loop. There are a number of Yorkshire Dales who have had their DNA done but their DNA is not even close our Scots Dales. If you get your DNA tested, you could find lost "cousins" among the Yorkshire Dales. The name has been there for at least 500 years. Ron Dale Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
