Abel Dale was born around 1858 in Audley, Staffordshire. He was a coal miner as was his father before him. His parents were Joseph Dale and Susannah Walker who were married in Audley on September 14, 1857. Joseph's father's name was William (Samuel William I believe). At least one of the Dales from this part of England has had his DNA tested and it shows that there is no relationship between these Dales and the Scots and Irish Dales. As I have just emailed you some info but I feel i must update you with what I know. James did marry a Elizabeth abt 1888 as they are living in Hampstead but in the 1901 census James is living in St Pancras, Elizabeth is a patient in Hospital after that point I have no more info on her. I thought also they had a child called George James baptised in Eaves if they did he's not the George that emigrated to NZ I think he must have died also I think Elizabeth died as James emigrated to NZ 1919 was married to a Florence he did retire from the Met in 1914. IN the 1911 census there is a James Dale married to a Florence living in Staines Middlesex. James is a Inspector at that point. I have also a photo of what my father told me was his grandfather James Dale arresting Emmila Pankhurst in London. The photo of which I have a copy of is taken in 1914 arresting officer is a Supt Rolfe who died later that year that is what the intern! et tells me. MY father had that photo of him on his wall until he died in 2007. James retired in 1913 so it can't be him in photo unless its a reporting mistake. I also have a younger photo of James on a horse in police iniform also a old photo of Keeler Dale born 1833 James's father my fathers great grand father. You are right in saying Sarah had a brother called Keeler up till then I had only known my father with that name also old Keeler.James lived in Auckland until his death in 1962 and his son George died in Auckland whilst living with my brother in 1990. The mix up all starts with George son of James I also didn't know my grandfather was born out of wedlock until I tried to use his birth for my Ancestry visa. As it turns out it was a family secret. James had George to Lucy Eames so there is no birth cert for a George Dale but nobody was told that until then. I had to use my Grandmother's ancestry Florence Thorigate who married George in 1923 my father's mother, I also have a photo of her. I obtained her birth cert and all relevent doc' for my visa. So George's birth name is Eames his chosen name is Dale as in his fathers name. James and George lived in close distance to each other until James died.It took a bit of searching his birth was 1902 Paddington workhouse. When he left Britain he travelled under the names Eames on the ship I gather he decided to follow his father to NZ. My only problem now is what happened to Elizabeth in 1901 did she die and who is this Florence. Both her and James are buried in Hillsbough cemetry together they were definitly married just can't find any certs. Keeler's parents were a Benjamin and Sarah Dale nee Bird. Sarah had a brother also called Keeler I gather thats why she named her son Keeler. My father's father George emigrated to NZ in 1921 also his father James Dale emigrated earlier in 1919. James was a police officer for the Met until 1913 when he retired. From what records I have found he was at some point married to a Elizabeth Field but at some stage he remarried to a Florence at this point can not find a maiden name for her. They both died in Auckland James 1962. George who was born out of wedlock his mother was lucy Eames took his fathers name Dale was at some point around the age of 9yrs living in Baconsthorp with his grandparents Keeler and Mary Dale as recorded in 1911 census. George died in NZ in 1990 after having 8 children one been my father.Amazing isn't ! it. If you have any more info please email me. My father was called Keeler Dale born NZ 1925 to a George Dale born in Paddington London workhouse to a Lucy Eames he was born out of wedlock so his name was on birth cert Eames his father was James Dale born Baconsthorp Norfolk abt 1866 to Keeler and Mary Ann Dale nee Lake. Keeler's parents were Benjimin and sarah Dale nee Bird. My great grand father James Dale emigrated to NZ in 1919 after retiring from Met Police in 1913. George his son emigrated in 1921 he then dropped the name Eames and took his fathers name Dale. Both James and George lived in Auckland until they died. James 1962, George 1990. My father Keeler was given a picture of his great grand father Keeler. Keeler had a brother called Noah also Thomas Bird Dale and a Benjimin Bird Dale been the eldest. Keeler died in 1919 up till then you can find him and his wife Mary in the 1911 census in Baconsthorp. Also on that census is George Eames age 9yrs althou! gh his surnmae has been spelt Ames which is incorrect. George Dale - nee Eames left Southhampton 1921 under the name Eames arrived in Auckland. Lived in Sth Auckland Karaka until he married my grandmother a Florence Thoriagate also from Norfolk in 1923 my father was born 1925. Hope this helps Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have four pictures I am trying to figure out how to upload here that were found in Henry Dale's trunk. They were old tintypes and we are unsure of the people in them as they match no other picutres and are of no one that we know (or aware of that we know). 1 is that of a man in his 20s-30s and what appears to be his wife. Another is of 3 men rather young looking and smoking cigars another is of a little girl and the third is of two more men. 1 is perhaps the same in all 3. (Possibly and I am going all on gut here....the man and the woman..Joseph Dale and Margaret Johnson? The 3 men.....perhaps George, Wesley and Joseph who all 3 came to Kansas from Indiana? (along with a William Dale. Anyway, I will post here in a minute when I figure out how. If you don't find it and would like to see the pictures please feel free to message me.
