    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BoCooper46 Surnames: Dail--Byrd Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/37.329.332.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Donna, Thanks for your reply to my 2004(?) post; I've come upon posts that were years old myself, and replied in the hope that I would be able to find some answers as a result. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't help you at this point very much. The "Dail" research I was doing wasn't personal, but on behalf of the late William (Bill) Byrd, who died perhaps 5-6 years ago here in the Greenville area. I don't recall where "Henry/Hillery Dale" fit into Bill's family tree, if he did. He may have been a "possible" for me, without being able to prove anything. Anyway, Bill's "Dail" family came from just north of Fayetteville, NC, where a number of cousins, and perhaps a sibling still live (though most might also have died by now). I remember that there was a problem of discontinuity in Bill's "tree." His "Dail" grandfather--I think it was (no, it may have been his "Byrd" father, "Willie"--was born illegitimate, and we couldn't find the name of his father. I do recall finding a man who grew up on a plantation over in the Benson area (roughly), who looked like a decent bet to be the grandfather. But it was still an outside shot, and I couldn't find any futher information. As I recall, these "Dails" had come from Virginia, and some had settled in Greene County and others to the east and northeast on the way. I know nothing about an Alabama connection from the research I did. Good luck, and sorry I couldn't be of more help, Brian __________________________________________________________________________ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 'Would be interested in the Dail information you have. My great grandmother was Elizabeth W. Dail, sister to Delphie Jane. My maternal grandparents lived around the corner from Bob Herring in Fayetteville. I did not know the family connection until years later. My mom was our family researcher. She could never seem to get past Henry and Sarah (Martin) Dail. Donna Young Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Breggie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/37.329.332.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Brian, my internet access is limited. I'm still very much interested in my Dail ancestors. My maternal grandmother was a granddaughter of Henry (aka Hillery S.) Dail. She did not die until 1995, so gave my mom what info she knew. My mom passed away in 2001, but not before we met Jerry Dale. Jerry and I "dug" diligently, but with little result. Jerry, unfortunately, has passed away too. Someone told my mom that the Dails possibly came from Greene Co., AL, but I've found more in Greene Co., NC. Like you, I would have thought Scottish background. I'm also lead to believe they migrated from Virginia, as many did to Cumberland Co., NC. That would certainly make you think English roots. Mom had some copies of old deeds of Henry S. DEAL. 'Not much help. His marriage record to Sarah does not list any parents. My mom knew the exact location of their unmarked graves. They are not in the cemetery registry. There is talk among some of the Dail/Dale descendants of possible Cherokee blood. That came from a story passed down to them. They've not been able to prove it yet. 'Hope some of the males in our line have their Y-DNA tested. That might help us. Donna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is "Gilley Mill Creek" which is apparently in the NW part of present day Houston County, about 10 mi SE of Daleville. GNIS puts the coordinates at 311335N 853525W. One might assume there was a Gilley Mill at some time in the past, but you'll have to consult other local resources for that.
