This is just to let you know the RootsWeb mailing lists are functioning again. You may now post any questions you may have been sitting on while they were not. The Archives are being re-populated, but due to their size, it is going to take some time to complete. This post should initiate that process. I have brief details about that marriage but nothing at all about James and his family so would be delighted if you could fill me in. I only have birth dates for William and Catherine's family so any extras would be great. Do you have any background on where they lived and their circumstances? Would you like to write straight to me? If so my email is walhay@optusnet.com.au. I can then send you photos if you want any from here. Author: marcia_dale_lewinter63 Surnames: Dale, Dayle Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/858.5.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Family Tree DNA has a, I think new, VA-1600s Project. If anyone who believes they are descended from Nicholas Dale would test with FTDNA it would be a way to confirm genealogy and branches of the family tree. My father's family tree traces back to Nicholas Dale, and I have been looking for him in England, although his departure from either London or Bristol does not insure that he wasn't for elsewhere in the British Isles. I have found a Nycholas Dayle christened February 1605, which is the closest date to Nicholas attesting he was 20 in 1624 in Virginia. Please consider Y-DNA testing as a method to sort out genealogy. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: evan2wo Surnames: Dale, Cooper, McElroy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1270/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There has been some speculation as to the Mr. Cooper who married Ann after Winfield Dale died. I did find a reference which may be helpful. I am not related to this family and have no further information. In Norfolk, VA Marriages table, I saw the following: 15 Jan 1770 Charles COOPER & Mrs. Ann DALE; Sur. Chapman Manson This would make sense since in researching the descendants of John McElroy who was said to have married a half-sister to Commodore Richard Dale, named Ann Cooper, I found John and Ann had a child named Charles Cooper McElroy, born ca. 1800. Therefore, I suspect Ann Cooper who married John McElroy was the daughter of Charles Cooper and Ann Sutherland, widow of Winfield Dale. Author: Marcia_Dale_LeWinter Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dale/1265.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Family Tree DNA has a Dale Project. There are 20 members, which is not really anywhere enough to be particularly useful. It would be terrific if more members of Dale families took the Y-DNA111 test at Family Tree DNA if they have not already taken the DNA111 test. I believe that Dales who have tested elsewhere can also join the project. The project managers work hard at providing useful information, and the more people who participate the better it is. Current Dale haplotypes include: R-M269, I-M170, R-P312, E-L117, I-P214, I-L39, I-P217, and R-M269. There are currently no more than 3 members of each haplotype group -- with the exception of the Ungrouped group. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He supposedly came from Londonderry sometime between 1683 and 1686. He died in 1708. We have never been able to confirm any ancestors for John nor confirm his birthplace. He married Katherine Fletcher and we believe her father was John Fletcher. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They are: Nicholaus DALE Father: Georgii Dale Date: December 1601 Place: Hutton Bushel, Yorkshire, England FHL Film Number: 558353 This Nicholas Dale probably would have been at least 23/4 years old at Muster in Virginia in 1924/5, and possibly 25 or older. Nicholas DALE Father: Henry Date: Christening 01 December 1606 Place: Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, England This Nicholas Dale would have been at least 18/19 years old, but could have been older at Muster in Virginia in 1924/5. He had an older brother named Thomas christened 25 February 1603. Warwickshire is the county that was likely the birthplace of Thomas Bouldinge [Bouldin], the man who transported Nicholas to America. Nycholas DAYLE Father: Edward Date: Christening 9 February 1605 Place: Billinghay, Lincolnshire, England FHL Film Number: 421923 This Nycholas Dayle is the closest in age to the Nicholas Dale who came to America in 1604. He could have been born in late 1604 as well as in early 1605. An Edmond DAYLE is also registered as christened 16 August 1604 in Billinghay, son of Edward DAYLE. This is possible, bit not likely as Billinghay was a relatively small community at that time. Nycholas DALLY Father: Nycholas Date: Christening 7 September 1606 Place: Dinton, Buckingham, England FHL Film Number: 1042379 This Nycholas DALLY Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
