My KIESEWETTER family settled in Brown Co.Ohio in the 1850's. The naturalization census records say they were from Austria. A brother on the Hamburg lists came from Kemzendorf, Austria. But, I cannot find Kemzendorf, Austria! Their in-laws were SCHUBERT from "Silesia" Their close Austrian neighbors in Brown County were: POHL unknown village of origin FEIKE from Setzdorf (now Valpenna near Opava in Czech). HAUKE from Setzdorf (now Valpenna near Opava in Czech). FLASSIG from Setzdorf (now Valpenna near Opava in Czech). QUESTIONS: Is anybody out there researching Kiesewetter, Schubert, Pohl, Flassig, Feike, Hauke ? Should I hire a Czech researcher to see if my Kiesewetters are also from Setzdorf? (I have exhausted all Ohio KIESEWETER records looking for place of origin clues) Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated! More info: Johannes Kiesewetter was born January 21, 1819 in Austria the son of Joseph and Magdalena Kiesewetter. At the age of 38 he came to America by sailing ship (ship name unknown). He, (and possibly his wife Christine Schubert, daughter Franciskah Romanda, his mother-in-law Rosalie Schubert) left Austria May 23, 1853 and landed in New York July 17, 1853. (Hamburg records are missing Jan.-July 1853) I could not find them in "German to America" They first settled in Maurystown, Highland, Co. Ohio. In 1855 Johann bought 46 acres in Brown County Ohio. He was declared a United Sates citizen May 31, 1859 also in Brown Co. His first wife Christine died July 7,1860. Johannes remarried. He married Anna Barbara Schneider who was born 28th of October 1827 from from the tiny village of Hoheinod in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz The marriage was the 12 of November 1861 at the German Lutheran Church at Arnheim. Johannes died 29 of February 1888 and was buried in the Arnheim Church Cemetery in Brown Co. Ohio. He was survived by his widow Barbara and five children. (I have much more info on his descendants but will leave it out for brevity)
