Can anyone on this wonderful list tell me what Ceske Budejovice refers to . Is it a village , town or something else ? My great grandfather's obit says he was from Cesky Budejovice. His death certificate says Trebon. Thank you so much, Alice Wolfe
Hi Alice, Ceske Budejovice is a fairly major town in southern Bohemia, south of Prague and pretty close to Cesky Krumlov. I have ancestors also from many villages in this area, surnames HERDA, JAKES, CIGLER, SIMA, SIMOTA, MACH, WONDRAT, JACHIM, CINADR, HAYDEKER, MUCHERLE, JESSKA, ROISL, SIRUCEK, SCHON, KUNESS, JON, BROTAN, NOSEK, KOHOUT, JEDLICZKA, etc. Regional archives in Trebon (which is a short distance east of Ceske Budejovice), has many of the records from the area. I'm going to visit for the first time this summer, it should be quite interesting. Any connections to these names?
