    3. Not that this matters, and it is "off-topic", but I find it interesting that most FHC's seem to be charging $3.50 to rent a film. My FHC charges $4.00, we wait approx. 3-4 weeks to receive the film for 3 weeks, renew for 3 weeks and then with another renewal it can go on a 6 month "indefinite" hold, if you reguest it. At the end of the 6 month hold, you have to tell them, in writing, you are still using the film, then they will put it on "indefinite" until SLC asks for it back - no charge. I realize each HFC has it's own policy and I don't mind contributing $4.00 for each film, though the standard seems to be $3.50 with faster shipment, - but California is NOT that far from Utah. Makes you wonder. Lynn > >> With an estimated mailing time of 2 weeks there and two weeks >> back that leaves 2 weeks to view the film > > > Hi List ! 3. Dear Lynn, Check with your family history center on why they charge more. They are allowed to charge for the cost of notifying you that your film has arrived either by postage or a phone call. In some areas the phone charges are not local and cost the center money and of course postage gets expensive too. This can add up and since there is no charge for using the FHC and the LDS church is non profit the funds must come from an outside source-you. As far as why the films take so long to arrive-I can only guess that they are short handed or have a difficult time getting hold of you to tell you the films have arrived. The staff at the FHC is all volunteer-no paid positions- so they take care of business when they can. If a FHC has a lot of patrons or has limited room they may not have space to store films long term. Knowing that there is someone still using the film lets them know not to return it. Hope this answers a few questions.
