    3. Sharon, I had a woman do both sides of my Grandparents families in the Czech Republic in 2003. I was very satisfied with her results and even had her do picture albums of some of the ancestral villages and family houses. If you are interested you can contact me directly at mikemartin@firstva.com Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mike1228@aol.com> To: <CZECH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 15, 2004 12:23 PM Subject: Re: [CZ] Arizona Czech/Slovak Research > Where can I get the name of a good researcher for Czech. > > Sharon > > > ==== CZECH Mailing List ==== > List Administrator may be reached by sending an email to > CZECH-ADMIN@ROOTSWEB.COM > >

    3. Sharon, To do both lines with siblings, travel, copies, finished bound booklet pictures etc., to before 1800 was 35,450 Kc. The rate during 2003 varied between 29 and 30 Kc to the dollar so the cost was US $1181 plus tip. On one line of my Grandfather she went to 1603 when my 8G Grandfather was made a nobleman by King Rudolf II. She found and translated the edict dated April 9, 1603 that made him a nobleman. Altogether she added several hundred leaves to my tree which now has over 900. I counted it as money well spent. 3. Mike, Just so that these figures do not scare someone off, can this be broken down into #s of records or #s of lines. My experience has been that one family (parents plus children) costs about $50-100 USD. So if one starts with their grandparents and works back to about 1700 (typical year) that would be about 6 generations in one line which is about $200-250 if all the records are in one parish. That would be an "extract" of the records (NO OFFICIAL COPIES or XEROX COPIES) and a finished report. So with two grandparents following 4 lines, it could easily cost $1000+. Now that is a lot of work and based on the best of possibilities. If the researcher traveled from Prague to Brno and then to other archives just to complete the records, the costs go up. Also, I have never obtained a death record (except very young children). Basically, what you get are the birth of parents and their parents names and place of residence, marriage data and children's names and births. You do not follow the "branches"; rather just the one main line. So for about $1200 USD, what Mike describes is a reasonable cost since he got some extra information, pictures and services. Also, my figures are based on research by the National Archives in Prague and Brno and about 5 private researchers. If you do this over a period time (one family line at a time), the cost can be spread out over several years. Of course if you have the $$ now, go for it because it will not get cheaper with time.
